For those who don't know, "The Life of Larry" was the pilot to "Larry and Steve" that Seth McFarlane did in college. "Larry and Steve" was the precursor to Family Guy and it aired on Cartoon Network's World Premiere Cartoons.
I recently got a chance to see "The Life of Larry" and the spirit of Family Guy was definately in there. Larry is basically Peter, all the way down to his voice. Same goes with Steve, who is Brian. What separates the pilot from "Larry and Steve" is that Lois and Chris are there in the pilot. Granted, they look different and so is their voices.
The jokes are hit and miss. Some of them were funny(like the neighbor randomly popping out of nowhere and asking for cheezits), others were dragged out too long(the Star Trek parody). Some of the jokes were reused in Family Guy(Larry farting for the first time in college; the drive-thru) and the live-action segments with Seth are nearly identical with the special he did with AS last year("Hi there. You scare the crap out of me"). The tone of the pilot is more adult than "Larry and Steve."
Overall, I liked it. Even though I thought "Larry and Steve" was better in terms of jokes and animation, this was still funny. I wonder how things would have turned out if CN picked up "Larry and Steve" for a series...

Since FAMILY GUY has become my favorite animated comedy, I've been wanting to see these for awhile now. I keep hoping they'll turn up as bonus features on a FAMILY GUY DVD.

I got to see Larry and Steve on What A Cartoon- very very good. However this is the first time I've ever heard of Life of Larry... I'll look it up.

Wow, wackiness. I'm surprised the Newt Gingrich gag at the end didn't get used. Newt was out of power by 1999, sure, but they could have used some other politician easily.

Dude, I remember Larry and Steve from "What a Cartoon". I absolutely loved that little cartoon short. I still get a chuckle out of that giant "Q" that lands on top of a guy in such a random fashion.

Yeah, I saw "Life of Larry", although the picture was crappy. I'm hoping in the future DVD sets, this will show up.
I definatly remember seeing "Larry and Steve". It showed up alot on Cartoon Network. Wish I taped it. Who could've thought it would morph into one of the best cartoons on FOX (well, USED to be the best).

I know He used Lori Allen for "Larry and Steve" on What-A-Cartoon. It was really funny, in Spongebob sort of way.
As for "Life of Larry", I haven't seen it, but a the few people that have said that a ton of jokes from that short end up on Family Guy throughout the first season.

The video quality stinks, but I couldn't find a better quality one:

I've seen this a couple years back. Almost every cutaway and joke they made up was done on FG in Life of Larry. Also Seth does the same stuff he did in those opening promos he did when he hosted that week on AS in between each gag. Yeah this and Larry and Steve should've been on some FG DVD by now. After all he owns them and should let other people see his early inspirations.

I like Larry & Steve better than The Life of Larry. The addition of good 'ol cartoon slapstick is hilarious (gotta love the massage chair bit!), but the snuck-in adult humor is also good.

I saw Larry and Steve, eh it was ok. The only things I really remember about it was "Isn't that a bit contrived?" and "I'm well versed in Chaucer (I use those as "jokes people don't understand" form time to time  )
I would have never made the connection to Family Guy.

Also Seth does the same stuff he did in those opening promos he did when he hosted that week on AS in between each gag. That's why I never got into Life of Larry, aside from a historical vantage point. Pretty much every joke was recycled into the pilot FG episode, so it felt rather boring to watch. It was neat to see the genesis of some of those dialog bits and hear early character voices, but that's about it.
By contrast, I loved Larry & Steve. You get the feeling that if Seth had decided to do "kid's" cartoons, he'd be equally as good with them as he is with adult cartoons, because many of the sight gags and the super-fast pacing work equally well in L&S.

I liked Larry and Steve better than Life with Larry. Did Life with Larry premiere on CN? Because it had a lot of profanity and unsuitable-for-(well, the current)CN jokes. I would not expect it to have premiered on CN.
