I'm talking B:TAS/TNBA

Seriously...he works all day (atleast 4 hours...monday through Thursday) cause Bruce isn't the moron he is in the comics... (In the comics Bruce is completely incompetent..Fox runs the show)
He spends all night fighting crime...he's seen a social events, goes to the gym....when is he sleeping?

I remember a couple episodes of TAS when alfred woke him up...

I guess they don't show him sleeping because...well....watching a person sleep is boring..

I know they've shown him waking up, my point is...
I try to get 8 hours of sleep...rarely do...and I feel terrible.
How does he fight crime, run a business empire, be a social animal...on like 4 hours of sleep?

I think there is some training thing he went through, where, he can sleep for 2 hours and wake up completely rested. It's some weird technique..but I do recall that being talked about..

Shaquille O'Neal says that he gets 4-5 hours of sleep a night. He is the preeminant athlete in the world today (MVP of the last two NBA Finals). I think that 5 hours of sleep is plenty not only because of that. It's just that people have been suckered into believing so many things by the immoral and illogical health profession.

They always have profit in mind so they try to make people think that they constantly need drugs, medical attention, or some other remedy that involves giving money to doctors. If Batman slept 5 hours a night (and were real), he could still be at the top of physical peak.

and you crash & burn on your down time.

I usually feel pretty good on 5 hours of sleep. But then again, I'm not out there fighting crime and running a business. If I was, I'm not sure how I would handle it. I would like to learn that 2 hour sleeping technique that Batman leearned. It would do me wonders.

Um, I Go to sleep at 6am on the average. I wake up at 11am ALL the Time. This is my normal sleeping schedule that I dont want to change.

Now I just just recently recieve a 9am-5pm job, That will only last a short time. And even still, I can't even get semi-tired, until 2am, and from there I fall asleep within 30minutes. Now I have to Wake up at 7am, that is still only 5 hours a sleep. Fully Functional.

5 hours is way more than enough Sleep. I think, the problem for most people is, they are not interested in getting involved in something after 12am. Batman I think on an average gets 3 to 2 hours of sleep.

I also read Where through training he's learned to refresh his body, in a matter of a short time. One issue I saw him, Sleep with is EYES OPEN!!. It said he has achieved manipulating his brain waves, he simply reache's the Theta state, sleep pattern, and he was in a concious Trance. This way he could rest, and at the same time, wait out in the Tree as the villain he awaited for arrived hours later.

He knows he needs sleep, but, Im pretty sure with all that he's learned, he could thrive with just a couple of hours a day, If that.

I've actually, (2 times), stayed up beyond a day, One time closer to 48 hours, and the other around 32. That did feel terrible, but 5 even 4 hours is do-able.

everyone's different. if i don't set my alarm in the morning, i'll wake up almost 7-8 hours later. that's the way my biological alarm is set. i guess i could train it to be set for 6 hours......anyway, i remember reading something about this guy who can live on only 4 hours. how sweet is that? sleep is such a waste of time, yet i want so much of it. blah. i just took a 2 hour nap after reading a book for school. i should just learn to go to bed earlier, but what's the fun in that? :p

This is how the doctors explain it to me:

Basically, you need 4-5 hours of deep sleep, REM sleep. The other 2-4 hours are used to try to get to that state and coming in and out of that state (humans sleep in 1.5 to 3 hour sleep cycles, depending on the person)

Someone well-trained meditators can skip that 2-4 hour toss and turn period and go to deep REM. All you need is REM sleep. Most of us can't achieve that quick of a consciousness change, so we have to get 7-9 of sleep to get our requirement of REM.

I've heard the same thing as Bird Boy, he is able to meditate or something, and as a result gets by with just 2 hours of sleep.

In response to varying levels of sleep, yes, different people need different amounts, but most need 7-8 hours a night. I've read about a woman who got by with 2 hours of sleep a night and claimed that everyone else slept for 8 because they were lazy. There was even one man, who I read about in my Psychology textbook, who never had to sleep at all! He would get tired at nights, but he would just sit in his chair for a while and read his newspaper, relax for a couple of hours, and then be rejuvenated! A lot of scientists observed this but weren't able to figure out the reason why. Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that everyone's body is different, and while you can have general rules like 7-8 hours of sleep, you can't expect everyone to fit into that category.

Also, to comment on the people who say that they can do fine on 5 hours of sleep...One or two days is one thing, but could you do it every single day of your life, without even feeling tired? :D If so, maybe you're an exception.

I'm not set up for a 24 hour day...I needs more time...

Ideally, I'd be up for about 18 Hours, and sleep for 10-11..I need the Earth to slow down.

Actually, you can sleep for one hour and still wake up as well rested as a person who had slept for eight hours. It's been proven and it all depends on your sleep cycle.

See, the sleep cycle takes roughly about an hour. Within the first fifteen minutes of dozing off, your in a light sleep before you progress to a deeper slumber. Somewhere down the middle you reach REM sleep (This is where you start dreaming) Then, the climax falls and you go into a lighter sleep and the cycle continues again for as long as your alarm clock permits you to. :D

However, the trick is to wake up when you're in the 'light sleep' mode after REM sleep. If you wake up anywhere else, you're going to feel tired. I mean, if you ever slept for even fifteen hours and someone woke you up in the middle of a good dream, you might recall you weren't all that wide-eyed, coffee engergized, happy person. Infact, you probably were grumpy, sleepy and terribly pissed off at the person who disrupted your precious beauty sleep.

Although I don't recommend experimenting to do this, because this takes a LONG time and getting your body used to (I'm still not quite aware just HOW) but this is my theory on how Batman gets his Z's. He spends about one hour or two on sleep a night (or day, hence the 'bat' alias) although it brings up another question...

Sleep helps to revitalize the body. This is where all your wounds, sickness, sore-throats, and even zits attempt to heal themselves. Your mind has to rest sometime too if it's going to function properly, so once again, I don't recommend this method... however, its quite interesting to ponder how Bruce/Batman gets around these things.

I mean, he works out (When do his muscles get a chance to properly build and rest?) ever once in a while gets a cut or bruise to show for his 'night shift' and his mind is as clever and educated as they get! So when do all these things in his body develope? For all the work he does, his body should get a maximum of thirty hours of sleep a week (It's amazing that he even squeezes in eight!)

So, what's my conclusion? He sleeps in Sunday mornings! (Hey! Its reasurring to know that he's still human! :p )

I had a friend who joined the army, and he said that recruits are lucky if they manage four hours a night, he said that at first it really gets to you, but after some months you adjust- I always found it amazing how he could sleep anywhere- if he had ten minutes of extra time, he'd be out like a light and wake up totally fine. He could almost literally sleep on command!

I have slept for only 5 hours on numerous occasions. If for some reason I feel tired, a 20 minute nap will refresh me.

My theory: there are busy nights, and there are slow nights. Batman catches up on sleep during the slow nights.
My other theory: Coffee and candy.

There was an issue of Batman (can't remember which title) I read a while back that mentioned that Bruce would slow down his breathing, or something to that effect, that would allow him to get more rest out of fewer hours of sleep. I can't recall exactly how many hours he'd sleep, though. If I have a chance (and if I remember), I'll go through my issues this weekend and see if I can find it.

I think that you're talking about a "clock choke" (is also known by other names). Police and martial artists teach and use this. It's just a matter of applying pressure to the arteries that run alongside both sides of the neck. This stops blood flow to the brain and causes a lost of consciousness. This move is VERY dangerous!!!!! I learned the move in my Kung Fu class and had it applied to me for a couple of seconds. IT DID NOT FEEL GOOD!!!!!!
If you want to learn moves like that find a good MA instructor and school. Let me also say that my instructor will not teach those he feels would use our techniques irresponsibly. Any potential teacher should express the same sentiment.

hmmmm. I went to a JuJitsu class once, and I was learning some pressure points, just getting shown a few things, to see if I wanted to take the class. Then the insructor tried a few on me. Not so bad, it hurt, sure, but I thought I was fine, we stopped to talk and suddenly I passed out flat on the mat! Keeled over like a felled tree! Apparently this can happen if there is a change in blood pressure after getting put in a joint lock, or something, I have to admit I'm a little fuzzy on the details that whole afternoon.... :o

Ahnold only gets 3-5 hours of sleep a night, and I'm assuming that with all of his exercise he would need the time to heal. Also, Einstein was supposed to only get 3-5 hours.

Still, I think Desdiablo is right, surely he's doesn't have those late hours every night. Also, power naps are wonderful things, you guys should try them!

these are great ideas, but its a cartoon, the whole point is to just enjoy them, and i will admit to analyzing them sometimes too, but the creators dont have everything make sense to what real humans do

So the sleep hold sould only be used in self defense? rats. that would have been really useful.

Yeah, but then what would we talk about?

Anyway, great shows, movies and books should all provide for the persons real life. Orson Scott Card says that even if the author doesn't go into how the spaceship that travels to the stars works that he should know in his mind.

It's kinda like the secret to telling a good lie is to make it as true as possible.

Could a normal human being, grieving over the death of his parents, train for ten years, become a really bad dude and go around and fight crime, get shot at, but never killed? Pretty doubtful. OK, so we'll suspend our disbelief about that, but if we're going to we need the rest of the story to be as realistic as possible.

i agree that its fun to talk about, and ya, shows should be as realistic as possible, but sometimes not everything makes sense. but nonetheless, its fun to hear ideas about batman sleeping
