Thought I'd cut to the chase. The question's going to come up when a couple of people realize that I still haven't gone to sleep. =x
Couldn't help it. Felt like drawing. Picked up my pencil and didn't stop till about 1/2 hour ago. =x Brian, if you're reading this, you might wanna come upstairs and wake me up if you wanna go out today.
But I digress, here are the results!

Ooooh, awesome! I like the upside-down Spider-man picture best.
Man, I wish I were an American citizen... then I could apply to the art school in New York, I hear it's pretty good.

Thanks. =)
Have you considered Sheridan? If I were a Canadian citizen, that's probably where I would've ended up.
Which NY art school, btw? There's a few of those around here... they all vary in $'s and specialties.

Oh man, you must have missed my rant on the Sheridan portfolio requirements..... yeah, I'm applying to there, but no one thinks I can get in, and frankly, after seeing what they want from me, I'm not sure either :P

As long as you're giving it a shot in spite of the odds. Which, by the way, just read the post.
That's a rough requirement. I can't imagine what I'd do. That sounds like they expect people to have been taking art classes since birth. I probably would've had it rough too. I spent my entire high school career in math/science honors, regents and college type classes and taught myself how to draw for the most part. But if you're passionate about it, that'll shine through in whatever you turn in to them.
If you need *any* help with any of that, let me know. Ideas, writing the B.S. suck-up page, the short story, reviewing work for the portfolio...
Have confidence in yourself and dedicate all the free time you have to that until it's complete. You can get in. Keep telling yourself that because you can.
This may seem grueling right now, but when you are the next Bruce Timm and you've spent a few years in the animation industry you'll look back on this and think it was a piece of cake.
If you do decide to try out for the NY colleges, I got into SVA with an 80 average and a halfway decent portfolio. I liked it there. Most of the instructors I had were fairly energetic and interesting. I think I the one class that helped me out the most was the Drawing for Animation class with Michael Mattessi. (sp?) Now I just have to take an anatomy class one of these days. =o) When I go back there, I'll probably go back to do illustration instead of animation.

Sorry to bug you again, Harley, but do you remember if PSATS were required to get into SVA? Since I live in Canada, I never took PSATS and therefore, am excluded from most colleges in the States. Not that it matters; I think it's too late to register for the fall now.

"No one thinks you can get in?" What the heck is this crap? Of COURSE you can get in... anything's possible if you're determined enough. I got into USC's graduate english program, which I thought was impossible because, as far as 20th century english lit is concerned, it's one of the tops in the nation. But I gave it a shot, and got in! So really, give it the old college try... it's better than regretting it in the future.
As far as PSATs are concenred, I don't think they're a requirement, so don't feel bad that you missed it. What matters now are the regular SATs, which I'm sure you can take just about any time you want now that they're computerized.

We don't have that in Canada either :P
Although if I don't get into Sheridan, I'll probably go try getting a degree in business (Which is the course I applied for when applying to "regular" universities), then try again. I could try applying to SVA at that time too.

The site's down, so you'll have to bear with me. I'll get more info for you on Monday. But there's no reason they shouldn't. If they don't have SAT's in Canada, they don't have SAT's.
But keep trying for Sheridan anyway.

Holy crap, I was just working on a kickass drawing of Donatello today during Chem class. I'll see if I can't scan the piece and put it up in a new topic.

Technically I'm not a moderator for this board, but I am for two others and I will warn you. In the words of Daffy Duck: "Watch yer language, bub! We're on the air!" I know, "Holy C--p" and "kick*****" aren't that bad, but it doesn't reflect well on our board community. Cool it, wouldja please? okay. As you were. cowabunga.

I was away in Boston on work for a couple of days. Sorry for not getting to this earlier. Go for it. I'd love to see how it turns out.

Terminatah,
I was gonna put up a Leo drawing myself... but then I saw how rude Sumi was being across the boards. Since it was specifically for Sumi, I don't think I could post it now unless SM apologized for the behavior to all those people and started being a little more polite.
I dunno about you, but I don't think SM needs to see something as cool as your Donatello drawing until that apology finds it's way across the boards.

Sumi,
Just some friendly advice from one of the head admins around these parts... This place operates on the Golden Rule... Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
If you are nice to others, then the majority of the people here will be just as nice to you. If someone is rude and you can't say anything nice, it's usually better ignore it. Cool?
Here's that Leo pic.

I'll try harder, I can't help it sometimes. Also, I was in one of my "mad at the whole world" moods that day, and when I'm like that I take it out on people, even if they say the smallest rude thing.
Anywho, I LOVE THAT LEO PIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was busy last night. Check it out. We've got an inked Leo for Sumi..... (I'll have it colored in photoshop eventually)... An inked Super Eileen, simply because the thought of my cape being a fuzzy towel amuses me so... And a more detailed Spiderman. I went over this one with a regular pencil this time and fleshed it out some more.

I'm applying to [Sheridan], but no one thinks I can get in, and frankly, after seeing what they want from me, I'm not sure either.
You and I are sort of in the same boat. I've been trying to get into the comic-book market--and the deal is, you can't approach most companies without a published portfolio...but you can't get a published portfolio unless you approach someone to print you. So it's a bitter Catch-22. Tried to skirt this by submitting sketches to the college newspaper--long story short, total bust.
Though I saw the requitrements, and I'll admit you may have it worse. Comic art is more stylized than realistic nude models and such. I severely doubt the Sheridan admissions board would be impressed by several pages of warriors duking it out or a guy blowing his intestines out his own back with a shotgun (don't ask! )
