View Full Version : Does anyone else wish they'd release a cheap FFVII for PS2?

By cheap I mean an unaltered version from the original. I don't have a PSP but I guess they could release it for that if they wanted to instead.

I've looked everywhere for this thing, exchange stores, comic stores, game stores, even yard sales. And I really don't feel like handing over fifty dollars for something so outdated, but I don't use Ebay anyway.

It's not like releasing the original is going to detract from whatever they plan to do for a PS3 remake. If anything I think it would gain more interest by letting more people see the original.

What remake? There is none.

I heard awhile back through the grapevine that a remake is in the works, but probably won't come out til 2007 or 2008. PS3 level graphics, but they'd possibly use a similar battle system to FFXII (which comes out here in October for the PS2) or FFXIII (which was recently shown in scans) rather than the materia system

Even if that's not true, they've altered their statements a bit. Instead of outright denying it like they used to, they're keeping a bit of mystery around the whole FF7 compilation, including the rumoured remake. We'll see.

Right here. (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/finalfantasyvii/index.html?q=final%20fantasy%20VII%20remake)

It's just a tech demo, but it's gotten alot of praise. The possibilty's still there but I don't want to wait that long just to play the original.

Yeah, tech demo. Which Square said wasn't a game being made.

The remake rumor is mostly bunk. Squeenix is actively considering a DS port, and was also considering a PSP version until they got their chance to simply release it as a downloadable for the system.

As for finding a copy... you pretty much have to be vigilant. I've often come across it in game stores for $20-30 (and even snagged it in one game store's $5 sale). Otherwise, you're stuck with forking out. :\

Around here, the price of FFVII used just jumped up to 30$ from it's previous price of 25$ used. Ridiculous. Gamestop knows that people will pay that much for it. I'm just glad I have two copies of it.

As far as I know, new copies of FFVII for the PS1 are still being made. Either that or my local comic shop has some hidden supply of new, shinkwrapped Greatest Hits editions.

I'm glad I picked up a non-GH version from EB for $15. I'd been hankering to play it again after getting rid of it in '98. I wouldn't mind a remake, but just releasing it for the PS2 without anything else would be a jip. Maybe throw in some other FFs and make a collection - then it'd be worth the money.

The re-make is iffy, no one is really sure if anything as of yet is coming from the demo, but as the near future goes it's not on the rader.

Square supposedly is prepping Final Fantasy 13 to be the next "big" game(as in able to be a standalone series like 7 or 10)

The closest thing for a new FF7 RPG would be Crisis Core

then again CC supposedly plays like Kingdom hearts

It's certainly not a rare game by anymeans, currently amazon has 71 used copies instock but Ebay levels of Seller stupidity has the lowest price be around 71 bucks

It's the latter. PS1 games have not been manufactured for some time.

Game Quest Direct's licensed reprintings says otherwise.

Those are an extremely limited example inclusive of limited runs of very few games. GQD has not reprinted FFVII.

I'd rather see something come out these DS rumours.

I think that may hindge on the success of Final Fantasy 3

However I'm still not sure how multiple cards could be interchanged without system freeze

Unless they go the episodic route and essentialy split the games into standalone cards which don't interact with each other. Dare I assume the possibility of Final Fantasy 7 Episodes 1,2, and 3. Each Card being one leg of the game, and each time you begin a new episode you have to essentialy level up/equip items again.

No there way a way to do it with one GBA

copy down one long long long long long long long long long code on a piece of paper and then enter it when you began a new game.

Exactly right. FF3 is, essentially, a test of the DS waters.

You're again assuming they wouldn't just fit each game onto one cart. The actual game data is minimal, and rendered video for the DS takes up a miniscule fraction of the space that it did for the PS1.

Also, there's no reason why card swapping would guarantee a system freeze. For all we know, card swapping is possible.

This would have been nice. Advent Children with the FFVII game and game guide. I would've paid the money for a US release.

Sorry, I knew about GQD, I was just referencing mass-manufacture by game publishers. Too vague on my part.
