Do you speed? I was going 85mph on Interstate 87 South today. The road was pretty empty, but I often go that fast even when there's moderate traffic. I'm not the kind of driver that likes to swerve around other cars or anything like that, I just like to go as fast as traffic will allow. Anyone else like that?

I'm one of the most impatient drivers you will see... If you are in front of me doing even just the speed limit, I will find a way around you and fly ahead of ya...
I think the highest I've actually gotten my car is 100mph... that was on my way to school in PA when 80 is virtually deserted...

I don't really speed, I just go at my own pace. I'll usually do 5-10 miles an hour over the speed limit... my girlfriend on the other hand does 55+ MPH no matter what...

Up here, most people, even instructors, recommend that you simply go by the speed of the traffic, which is usually faster than the limit.
Unless you're taking a road test, of course--then you'll have to slow down and piss off the people behind you.

I don't speed, but everyone around me does. It's quite annoying.

The absolute worst is female drivers on cel phones. Might as well let a blindfolded chimp drive.

I usually go about 5 over or keep up with the speed of those around me. And of course if someone in front of me is going the speed limit it doesn’t bother me. But so help me if they’re going below...
There are, however, three places I absolutely refuse to speed: hospital, school, and construction zones.

My friends make fun of me but I almost always drive very close to the speed limit. I feel that we have rules and laws for a reason and I try to obey all of them. Even something as minor as speeding.

I usually try to do what LLJ said, kind of go with the flow of the traffic, which is usually above the speed limit. I figure that if everyone's speeding, there's not a whole lot of a chance of getting pulled over. I usually try to be sure that at least some of the cars are going faster than me, but I probably drive a little faster than the average driver.

Well, going to work (@ 4:45am) yeah, I speed. A Bunch. As I'm generally running late. I have to tell myself not to, cause the lights are set up on a system, and if you don't speed, you hit them all green. As soon as I'm on the loop (Speed Limit 60) It's 80-85 all the way! W00! I also occassionally run reds on my way to work....(after stopping & checking...a bunch.)
Going home, not so much...I follow traffic.
One thing I will do is...someone's tailgating...I slow down. I hate people riding my bumper!!!

Since I'm just learning how to drive, I haven't quite figured out how to feel if you're speeding or not. Okay, I don't know if that made sense, but you experienced drivers get what I mean...right???
Anyway, I once did fifty a road you probably shouldn't do fifty on. It's narrow; it's curves a bit, and there's a big fat resevoir to the left of the road. The instructor told me to slow down. I didn't realize how fast I was going until I looked at the speedometer.
I can absolutely see myself as one of those drivers who'll go five to ten miles above the limit.

Heh, yeah..it takes a while to get a feel for how fat you're going..
I remember my 1st time driving, it was a small country road...didn't go more than say 10 (I'm not sure I even used the gas pedal...just let the idle speed take me down the road..
You'll get used to it. =D Just....don't drive near me..I want to live...LIVE!!!

In Florida the cops don't do much about speeding, so yeah I speed (I only have my permit so I'm not as bad as everyone else :D). It gets pretty ridiculous down here. It's nothing out of the ordinary to see everybody doing 85 mph (in a 70 zone) on I-95 coming back from work...in fact, it's normal. 90 mph is gettin' to be about as normal...

Yup, it depends on the traffic. I never go faster then the big trucks they seem to know where most of the traps are. Of course that is for the major express ways. On the small 2 lane hiways there are few traps due to the lack of traffic so I don't pay attention to the speed that much when using them.
I never been pulled over for speed but my mom did on night on the 401. She couldn't think of an exsuce she had it wide open. Oh and the Transcanada along the prairies is perfect for opening any vehical up since the road is strait and flat so you can see any speed trap miles away.

Sure, I drive to the speed limit- plus or minus 30.
And yes, it's usually plus :P
That is, I used to, but I'm starting to cool off lately (Now it's just 15, occasionally 20, above the limit), cuz I got in a bit of an accident due to my speeding....dang ice.... ^_^' Good thing there was no harm and no damage.

I always say it's best to go with the flow of traffic. You don't want to be one of those butt holes that swerve in and out of traffic (and you know who you are, and you know that you also have a higher chance of being pulled over because police officers love picking off people like that) and you don't want to be the butt hole that holds up traffic in one lane while everybody else buzzes past you. So if the majority of traffic is going 85 in a 70, I am going 85.
However, on residental streets, I stay at the speed limit. And nothing bothers me more than a speeder in a residental neighborhood. It's one thing to act like that on the highway, but on the regular streets, you never know what is going to come out in the road, whether it be somebody's pet or a child.
I had a bad experience the other day going to work...well, almost bad. This jerk decides me doing the speed limit isn't good enough for him so he tries to speed past me. Since I hate people like that, I keep up with him so he can't cut in front of me (and I will do that) but he really floored it and got right in front of me then slowed down to make a left hand turn. I am sorry, but that is just being an ass. A sheer total ass. I could have rear ended him, and if it had been icy out, I probably would have. (and people will do stunts like that on ice too). So if you do drive like that, I hope you get in a serious car accident SOON and learn your lesson, provided it can be found that you are guilty and you have to pay out the nose for the other person's damages, lose your home, and all that good stuff.
Sorry, but I've seen too much bad come of people who drive like morons to have any sympathy for them.

I usually do speed. I'm impatient in traffic and if someone is going a bit slower than me, then I'll do my best to pass the person. I always like to make "good time" (as my Pa calls it). If I'm stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic then I just go with the flow....

There are places were the speed limit is 70?! The speed limit for most of New York State is 55. Not that anyone pays attention to it.

That's cause NY is a tiny state...you don't need to go fast.
Here in Texas the speed limit is 70 (and it's far to low...takes forever to get anywhere)
60 in city....

I think the Interstates here are 70 in Missouri, maybe 75. To be honest, I only travel on them about once a year.
I was going to Minnesota on I 35 one night with hardly anybody on the road to use as my guage for the flow of traffic, and I looked down and found myself going 100 MPH at one point. Yeah, I slowed down a tad. Amazing when you are the only one on the road how fast doesn't actually feel all that fast.

I've pushed 100 on the Texas Highways...

I only speed on the freeways and those big stretches of road that aren't busy with people and traffic. The speed limit for freeways is 65mph in CA, you can find me going at around 80 most of the time. From my driving experience, people in San Diego are more agressive drivers than people in Los Angeles. :p
What I hate are tailgaters and people who don't use their signal lights.

Amen. I'm also not too fond of anyone who drives a huge vehicle, such as a truck or SUV, faster than the speed limit. There's nothing quite as unnerving as seeing a vehicle with twice the mass of my little Contour bearing down on me, then deciding to change lanes and swerve around me at the last minute.
Usually I'm not an impatient driver, and therefore don't speed often. There's just no need.
Oh, and one more driving pet peeve: people who speed up at yellow lights. Now I'd better quit before I go into one of my "Memphis has the worst %*@$!@*^ drivers in the entire world" tirades, and get so mad that I go out and start making citizen's arrests or something. :o

Ahhh, tailgaters. They tick me off so much. If I ever get one, I either: gently press the brakes, just enough so that the lights come on, or drive exactly the speed limit. Mwahahahaha!
Of course doing this is not always a good idea, and once annoyed a Joe Blow to the point of road rage.

Yes, Florida is the best place to drive. I hear in other places, people are actually ... COURTEOUS on the road.
MYTH: It's illegal to run cars from other states off the road.
MYTH: It's illegal to go through a red light even if you do it reallllly slowly.
MYTH: It's illegal to drive around the red light and keep going.
FACT: All those things are OK.

I only go 5 over. 10 max. But, like Cal, if someone is pissing me off, i will not hesitate to break every law to put them in their place.

I generally go about 10 miles over the limit. Or, rather, I would if there weren't all these damn traffic cones strewn around I-40 lately that cuts you down to an average of about 30 miles per hour. Arkansas doesn't exactly have a stellar highway system...
