I thought the extras were actually better here than on most of the other DVDs. Although the quiz was still pretty easy, it wasn't embarrassingly easy like the others, and they actually had Mystique voice the quiz rather than just Cheesy Announcer Guy. Though I must nitpick that the quiz writers were wrong on one aspect, X-23 was NOT a product of Weapon X, she was made by HYDRA.
The "Season 3 X-posed" extra wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was kinda nice just to hear the creators talk about the show, really.
The Cerebro Files on the Acolytes and the "X-Men" (if by X-Men you mean Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Angel, and the Morlocks) were pretty good, and we finally get an acknowledgement of Cybelle's and Torpid's names, as well as the Acolyte's real names (they are indeed the same as their comic version's names, as expected).
But hey, I didn't buy the DVD for the extras, I bought it for the excellent show eps, so woo!

I don't mean to sound rude but why did you get a screener? Your site doesn't cover X-Men does it?

As for the set itself I found alot of copies and was glad to see that. Some stores had them tied into X-Men 3 and others had them with their TV box sets or in the children's section. But I saw alot of copies. I was able to get mine for around $15 diollars and I'm slowly making my way through the set. Has it been easy to find? I know in my area there are copies everywhere! I will have comments on the actual set soon. Does anyone else have anything to say about the DVDs?

Will this DVD have an official site? How come we never got to see commercial and ads for the DVD unlike Batman Beyond,Justice League,Samurai Jack(season 3).And why do I get the feeling that X-Men:Evolution DVDs dont get the good DVD treatment that they deserve?

Anyways,I am now watching the the last two episodes and its all an uphill from here..cant wait to have season 4 on DVD!

Please stop bringing up the exact same points in every single Evo thread we have. I've been told that there was a delay in the online promotion for the X-Men: Evolution DVDs, and that it should be starting up soon. It was probably done to tie into the new X-Men film being released tomorrow.

I just got this in the mail today. I'm surprised at how fast I got it, considering I ordered this and the third season of Samurai Jack only two days ago from Amazon on Standard Shipping.

But even with that, I'm probably not going to open this up until the weekend arrives, after I've seen X-Men 3 tomorrow. I'm watching the first two X-Men movies tonight as a refresher, so I don't want to trail off to the Animated storylines until I've seen all the live action movies back to back

Has anyone else noticed a potential glitch in the video transfer (at least I'm assuming it's the transfer not the source). When I put my S3 discs in my computer's dvd drive, the animation has alots of places where it seems "blurred", especially whenever there's a "camera move" (as opposed to a locked camera and a moving subject). I tried slo-mo and screen capping and confirmed that it's almost double-imaged somehow. None of my other EVO dvds seem to have this problem on the computer. I have yet to check S3s discs on my regular dvd player to see if the problem shows up there too.

Any thoughts?

Meh, to be honest, you're not missing much. The first two seasons were pretty mediocre at best, with the exception of season two's finale, which leads into the third season. The third season, imo, is where the show finally reached a level of standard that it should've started with in the first episode.

got mine on the streetdate, along w/ Samurai Jack S3, Cowboy Bebop Remix V5, and The 4400 S2 (btw, fans The X-Men & X-Files MUST check out this show...S3 debuts 11June only on USA)

so far I've only watched the first 2 eps ("Day of Recovery" & "The Stuff of Heroes") Next up is "Mainstream", where things kinda settle down after all the drama w/ the Sentinel, Area 51, & Juggernaut. And then there's "The Stuff of Villains" where we see an uncivil sibling reunion between Pietro & Wanda. With Mystique out of the picture, Magneto offers the Brotherhood their final chance to prove their worthiness.

Can't wait til I get up to "Blind Alley", "Self Possessed", "Under Lock & Key", and "X23"...and of course "Dark Horizons"

After watching "X-23" (one of my favorite episodes of the series) I went back and started watching the series in order from the first episode on this set. One thing I really like about this set is being able to watch the series in the right order. If I remember correctly there were some episodes that were mixed up in order when KidsWB! aired them right? But being able to watch the season unfold in the right order gives me a bit more of an appreciation for it. Plus you really notice how well done the animation is when you can watch it on DVD instead of a VHS tape or a lousy television feed.

Starting with Season 3? About the same. Seasons 1 and 2 are more action or kiddie oriented, depending on the episode, except for, as someone mentioned, the last three episodes of the second season.

If you like the DCAU, it's a fairly safe bet you'll like X-Men:Evolution.

I finally finished watching the entire set and it was just great. I loved seeing the entire 3rd season story arc unfold. Especially considering that I hadn't even seen the season finale because I had originally missed it on tv, along with the rest of season four.

I'm sad to say though that the features on this set were lacking. The only thing I found interesting was the featurette. I watched the mutant files and the trivia, but those were throw aways and they didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know.

For the episodes themselves, they all turned out great, but I did have 2 or 3 glitches here and there while watching some episodes. They only lasted less than a second, but it was still distracting.

I give it a 3.5 out of a 5, only because the 3rd season itself completely rocks. But as a dvd set, it's pretty dissapointing on the features. The first and second seasons had more extras put together even with the individually released dvds. I especially missed having brief introductions before every episode like the last two seasons.

I picked this up at Target today; the fact that they made it is joyous. I'd given up on ever seeing the better seasons of X-M:E on DVD.

Though I have to wonder if they're doing this because they're contractually obligated to release all the episodes on home theater format. I don't know what other reason they have for putting out a season set three years after the show left the air. Maybe they were just waiting for the next film.

My best guess is that season 4 will be spit out whenever X3 comes out on DVD. (There aren't any other major events for it to lean on.)

This was a terrific season. It makes me wish season 2 was released more practically. (As for season 1, who really cares....)

I'm kind of confused on these releases. Is the only way to get all of seasons 1 and 2 to order the volumes separately (what are they, like, 4 discs with 4 episodes each or something)? I'm actually in the process of getting season 1 because I saw it collected on Amazon, but what about season 2?

From the looks of it, season 3 is the only one that got a "complete season" treatment. I want to own every episode that comes out, I'm just wondering what the best way to do that is.

Plus, you have to take time comparing episodes on the volume information to make sure every episode is included, as many volume sets are "best ofs" or otherwise incomplete.

Being able to view all 13 episodes of X-Men: Evolution’s third season makes up for the lack of any in-depth extras. I don’t mind the few short extras on the set, as it follows the lines of the small extras that came in previous sets. But the appeal to this set isn’t the behind the scenes information, but the actual episodes for me. After getting single-volume releases for the first two seasons, we finally have the whole season in one collection, and for a very small price.

The season overall is very well executed, with barely a stinker in the bunch. A few episodes may come across as just average, but over all the season has a lot of “home run” episodes. The ongoing, somewhat serialized nature of the third season made for more storytelling opportunities, for stories to go further, and we see that with great affect here. Revisiting and reinforcing storylines and ongoing plots really brought the show to its’ peak this season.

The DVD itself is serviceable. The audio and video I find are on par with previous DVD releases. The images are sharp and bright, and the sound is clear and concise. It presents X-Men: Evolution in the best way available, as most of us no doubt were watching episodes on old VHS tapes.

The extras are just the icing on the cake, and we get a small taste. We don’t really learn anything knew, but it’s a treat to see the creators behind the show talk about it. Most of the information from the extras are already covered in other interviews, but it’s a blast to see them voice it. I honestly didn’t expect in-depth interviews when this set was announced, so I wasn’t upset to see a small collection of extras.

X-Men: Evolution: The Complete Third Season is highly recommended to both fans of the popular animated series and Marvel fans, in general. It’s a nice, fresh take on some of the better characters in comics.

Yup, that's right. Season 3 is the only one that's released as a complete set. Seasons 1 & 2 are released seperately with 4 volumes for each season. The only way to collect those seasons are through those volumes.

I ended up buying that First Season Collection from Amazon too. For Season 2, just look around on Ebay, you'll probably find the 4 volumes for it being sold as a bundle too. If not, then you'll have to grab all the volumes seperately to get the entire season.

The only way to get S1 and S2 is bu buying the individual volumes (4 each). At one time there was a "complete season" set offered for each, but it was just the 4 volumes bundled together in shrink wrap.

SO your discs don't have the "aliasing" or "transfer" problems I and some others have noted? That is, certain scenes are a bit blurry and or jumpy when the camera pans across the image. I used slo-mo and f-by-f to confirm that some frames are double imaged. Is it just my copy or is it a universal problem?

It's still there, and at the same price as the season set. But only season 1 gets that. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/102-0209239-5097758?url=index%3Ddvd&search-type=quick-search&field-keywords=xmen+evolution&Go.x=14&Go.y=8)

Seeing as how season four of X-Men: Evolution is there final season then it is safe to say that it will be the final DVD. And the show is done with the creators working on other Marvel projects or shows. X-Men: Evolution is gone cheeno. Let it go. Enjoy the episodes we have instead of complaining about not having more.

cheeno,

This really is getting tiresome. In case you've not picked up on the various hints dropped your way from several people who post here - please stop with the pleas for X-Men: Evolution's return. It was a great show, and it is still missed but we don't need to hear it in every single thread we have here. It's getting annoying. Stop it. Now.

As Spider-Man pointed out, enjoy what we have. 52 episodes is a hell of a lot more than what most other Marvel cartoons got. We're not going to get DTVs, the crew is working on other projects and the animation rights to the series have been lost, a new X-Men cartoon is coming. Seriously man, Stop. Please.

Spidey must be having a bad day... :P

I am really eager to finish watching this box set, but just seeing it on my shelf alongside the first 2 seasons is a great comfort to my mutant heart. ^_^
On these scales, I'd grade this release:

Content: 10/10
As anyone would know, the contents of this set are as great as they come. Season 3 features some of the most memorable, milestone episodes of the series, there is not a single moment of this box I found unimpressive or unentertaining. All 13 eps are pure DVD gold.

Audio: 10/10
I don't know if the audio could even get any better, its ever more crisp and clear than before. The DVD-quality vamping job here was clearly top grade, everything runs smoothly out of the speakers and into the ears of the viewer like a flawless symphony.

Video: 10/10
The video also never fails to amaze, I am not totally convinced it could or couldn't be better, but it is certainly above satisfactory, every line and color is crisp and clear, beautifully restored and preserved.

Packaging: 9/10
The box design is exactly the same as the Warner Brothers sets for The Batman and Teen Titans, a keep case box with a double-sided manual inside and 2 discs comfortably held in place. I love these kinds of disc holders, the disc is easy to remove when desired, and equally easy to put back it, with no damage or hassle whatsoever to the case or DVDs (unlike vol. 1 of Burst Angel, ack! I was afraid I was gonna snap the DVD from that dang holder!)

Menus: 7/10
The menus are the typical Evo DVD layout, with the same generic music on the main menu, the same font and screen art pattern, everything. This gets rather repetitive, and I wish they would put the great BGM music of the show to use for the menus, but it is not a biggie, and these are impressive enough, and of course, most importantly, easy to navigate and control.

Extras: 6/10
The features are also the generic Evo DVD format; it is a plus that they brought the voicers in for certain work (David Kaye, the voice of Professor X, hosts the Hero and Villain features, for example), but easy-as-pie trivia games, and quick character bios that we already know all about are merely added marketing fluff. I'd rather see more interviews with the voicers, or a featurette on the music of Evo, that'd be a blast to watch.

Overall: 10/10
In conclusion, this Season 3 set is a must-own for all TV fans, comic fans, Marvel fans, Evo fans, you name it. Warner has once again shown their quality; the very highest, I have great faith in a Season 4 release being equally impressive. And until then, I am just overjoyed to have this one, praise God that Warner put out the uncut, quality packed releases they did for both this and the DC shows.

Just got the DVD in and have watched the first four episodes (Day of Recovery, Stuff of Heroes, Mainstream, Stuff of Villains). I was a bit worried that it might come off badly because my expectations would be too high - it'd been so long since I'd seen it, and stuff I liked a year ago I may not like now. But I was pleasantly surprised. The quality was great, and although it can be a bit cornballish, overall it's very good and well thought-out. My favorite line (from the Stuff of Heroes):

*Kitty and Kurt port into a helicopter*

Kurt: Hi, I'm Nightcrawler!
Kitty: Hi, I'm Shadowcat! And this is your weapons system! *phases through the dashboard, shorting the circuits, and the two port out of the copter*

And I'd forgotten how great Toad was. Day of Recovery really was an excellent episode (as was most of Season 3). Blind Alley was kind of irritating with all of its Scott/Jean fluffiness (I've watched the first half but I've seen it way too many times) but so far it's the only one that hasn't been outstanding.

Now that I've finished the entire 3rd season (didn't take me long, huh?), I'm pretty damn pleased with my purchase. The only 3 episodes that were average were Blind Alley, Cruise Control, and X23, although they each had their bright spots, anyway. Self Possessed was one of the coolest episodes ever, as was Dark Horizons 1 and Dark Horizons 2. I'm a Lance/Kitty guy, but it was obvious that there were a few references to Kitty/Piotr in DH2, but that was an isolated incident (thankfully). After Rogue pretty much beat the crap out of everybody in Self Possessed and DH1, seeing Apocalypse just take her powers at the end of DH2 really sent a message as to just how powerful he was. Overall a great season.

Under Lock and Key is one of my least favourite episodes, because I felt it lacked drama, the main reason why I liked Evo.

Has anyone seen any reviews for the new DVD set online? I always enjoy reading reviews for DVD sets like this one and the DC DVD ones too. I like seeng different points of view on shows that we enjoy here. I have only found two other reviews for X-Men: Evolution - The Complete Third Season so far.

Has anyone uncovered any others? I've just about reached the end of the DVD set and it'll be nice to give X-Men: Evolution a little break before getting the eventual fourth season which I bet will hit later this year. But there's been so much X-Men: Evolution talk and viewing that it's time to give it a bit of a rest! Still a great series and a good DVD collection.

Amazon has some customer reviews which are totally bogus except for one or two.But I'm sure Tv shows on DVD and DVD toons will have reviews for the DVD up soon.Contests of free giveaways have been discovered though,on two websites. One is digitally obsessed and the other one's name, I dont know.

By the way,the Chud review for the DVD has some good screen shots, and hilarious ones too.

I'm STILL looking for information about the video transfer...are the image quality problems that several have reported in the SOURCE material or is it a bad transfer? Are they planning a fix?

Have u tried playing it in your DVD player?Or if the problem still exists,u can return the DVD and replace it with a new one?Mine is working perfectly fine & no its' not a bad transfer(as far as I know)

And all those guys who said they would make custom cases, are they done with that??

It's a simple Flash promo site for one of the single-disc releases. Nothing more.

What sort of website do you want for a DVD set? They can only tell you so much about a collection of episodes on DVD via some Flash animations, beeping noises, and stock character art.

Exactly. The official sites aren't that good at all. I already know that I'm going to get the set but I just don't see how one of WB's usually subpar sites would convince anyone to buy a set. I don't mind that a website isn't up becuase everything I want to know about the set has already been put online through fan sites like Toon Zone and their reviews and thinking that not having a website up will damage sales is ridiculous.

How come Marvel never advertises for its' own merachendise like X-M:E season 3 DVD?and only advertises for DC DVDs?Why is that so.There is currently some kind of a super-man DVD ad over at www.marvel.com (http://www.marvel.com)

I think perhaps the more relevant inquiry is why does it matter? Enough already.

Actually I think it does,Marvel owns them and why does it advertises for DC when it is a major rivalry of DC itself?

Warner Bros pays for the adverts for the DVDs in the comics - they're used as a source of advertising, to let people know the DVDs are available in hopes they are buying them.

Seriously, cheeno, stop asking utterly stupid questions. It's getting to be too much.

It's great to have this set but I sort of wish they had it in the same cardboard casing they used for Samurai Jack. I don't mind the casing they bave now but the cardboard casing would have made it look a bit better lined up with the eight other X-Men: Evolution DVDs. But that is really my only complaint on this otherwise great DVD. I'm just glad to be getting some Marvel DVDs out on the shelves and hope this will lead to more.

The question aints stupid.
I also despised some stuff regarding this DVD set,the menu layout and the special features. They should come up with something better for season 4 DVD.

I picked this DVD up just for the heck of it, and absolutely fell in love with this show. I remember watching it back when if first aired on Kids WB and it didn't really do much for me, but I'm glad I picked this set up because its great. The episodes are fabulous except I wasn't fond of "Cruise Control" and "X23". The special features are decent with some interesting information in some of them and the video and audio quality I thought were pretty good as well. I didn't like the menus that much, but I love this DVD and I've just found a great new series I can enjoy. Now I have to go out and find Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD!

I found a new review for this set over at DVD Verdict which can be read here (http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/xmenevolutionseason3.php).

This show does come off stronger when viewed in this set. They're all in order and we don't have those long wait inbetween episodes. I remember KidsWB! would go four or six weeks without airing a single new episode which does kill the momentum of any show even this one. Having the whole season long arc (well most of the season) in a set like this makes the story flow much better.

If Spyke will be excluded,I'd be really happy:D .I hate him.And also, the episodes should have titles appearing on the screen. They did not had when episodes were airing on TV.

Even though this thread if for discussion of the DVD set I'll add an off-topic comment here. If season four gets put on DVD it will probably be exactly the way it was aired with the usual title screens and the lack of episode titles. I don't see any reason why WB would put money into making any alterations when it would be completely unnecessary. Now back to the season three set...

I've tried finding it in Shanghai but it hasn't arrived yet. Its because they dub every DVD into Chinese language first. Mystique's revenge, over her, is currently in the " Just arrived " section!

Hope I'll find it in Philippines!

I've got this set playing in the background right now while I'm on the computer (I'm saving the rest of X-Men Volumes 3 & 4 & WATXM Season 1 for later) and the transfers look to be pretty good, even though I never saw the episodes on TV. Plus the audio is pretty clean and clear.

Now then one thing that I'd like to see is Marvel arrange with Warner Brothers or get Disney to release Season 4 on DVD, since Season 3 ends with a cliff-hanger which doesn't resolve anything. (Sure I realize that the S4 episodes are online, but with those that means that you have to watch them on your computer instead of being able to take them to different parts of the house to watch.)

(Oh on the poll up top, even though it is a really nice looking and sounding set, I had to give it a 4 out of 5 because of the mediocre bonuses and for having the season end on a cliffhanger---why Marvel and Warner couldn't have made this a 3 or 4 disc release that include the 13 episodes from Season 3 and the 10 episodes from Season 4 {like Warner did with the 1950's live-action Superman series} is beyond me.)
