Cartoon Network Seeks Young Artist to Create Family Drawing To Appear in THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE This Summer
Winning Drawing to be Voted Online by Fans at Film's New Website, www.PowerpuffGirlsMovie.com (http://www.powerpuffgirlsmovie.com)
Cartoon Network is putting out the call to all artists under the age of 18 to submit a crayon drawing of The Powerpuff Girls family-Blossom, Buttercup, Bubbles and Professor Utonium-that might earn the chance for the drawing to appear onscreen in the new animated motion picture, THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE. Through the network's "Be An Artist" contest, kids will be encouraged to mail in their crayon masterpieces to a Cartoon Network address from Jan. 14 - Feb. 1, where the film's director, Craig McCracken, who also created The Powerpuff Girls, will select his favorite 10 entries. These top 10 finalists then will be displayed online at the film's new official Website, www.PowerpuffGirlsMovie.com (http://www.powerpuffgirlsmovie.com), so that visitors can vote Feb. 11-15 for their favorite drawing. The winning creation ultimately will be featured within the film and the artist's name will appear in the end title credits. THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE, a Warner Bros. release, is scheduled to
premiere nationwide on July 3, 2002.
Complete details for the "Be An Artist" on-air/online contest will be
presented on Cartoon Network starting Jan. 26 and are available in print form at www.PowerpuffGirlsMovie.com (http://www.powerpuffgirlsmovie.com). Artists are limited to a single entry per person, and all drawings must be rendered vertically in crayon on an 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch sheet of white, unlined paper. Entries should be mailed to "Be An Artist Contest," P.O. Box 771399, St. Louis, MO, 63177-2399 and must include the child's name, age, address and home telephone number on the back of the art. The final winner will be notified by Cartoon Network shortly following the contest and the winning drawing will be on display at the movie Website until the film's summer premiere.
"We came up with the idea to use an actual drawing created by a fan of The Powerpuff Girls while we were reviewing a scene in the script where Bubbles is shown drawing a picture of her family with crayons," says Jim Samples, executive vice president and general manager of Cartoon Network. "We think that kids would really get a kick out of seeing their own masterpiece show
up in the film."
Cartoon Network, currently seen in more than 79.5 million U.S. homes and 145 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s 24-hour, ad-supported cable service offering the best in animated entertainment. Drawing from the world's largest cartoon library, Cartoon Network also showcases unique original ventures such as The Powerpuff Girls, Justice League, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd n Eddy and other Cartoon Cartoons.
