View Full Version : What do you still watch on G4?

X-Play: I don't enjoy it as much as I used to but the show is still funny and Morgan Webb is HOT.

Brainiac: It's a fun show and it's educational. Plus, it wouldn't have been out of place on TechTV.

I also sometimes watch Star Trek. Besides those shows, I rarely watch the network. What do you still watch on G4?

EDIT: I also watch Icons and Cinematech.

My mom watches Star Trek and I sometimes watch X-play but that is it. Their weekend schedules are terrible because the only game show they show on Saturday is an X-play thats on at 12:30 PM! Sunday has nocturnal emissions at 11:00 PM but I'm not watching that. So G4 was once a gaming channel now a channel geared toward Trekkies, people that like fastlane (who does?), and mostly people who like to see bare to naked woman. I watched a little bit of fastlane (out of curiosity) and it is so cheesy, and the episode plots are awful aswell as predictable like "Van and Deagon must uprehand a sexy assassin..." and I just thought about how that plot has been done alot in other shows.

X Play was my fave show on TechTV, even back when it was Extended Play. The only show I really liked when G4 took over was Cinematech. So, yeah, X Play and Cinematech.

They pretty much show that shortly after you join their IT college you'll be rendering 3D characters with ease. Never mind the hours and hours of coding you'll have to slave through as well as the advanced math and advanced programming architecture one will have to memorize. It seems like that comes afterwards.

I watch X-Play and CinemaTech. That's about it lately, as everytime I turn to G4 it's either ST:TNG or some other program they got from SpikeTV.

X-PLay.

I also like Icons, and occasionally I will watch some anime, but I would rather just watch my anime on DVDs.

Oh, and I have Star Trek on DVD already, so I don't bother with that when I can watch it commercial-free and without the stupid Star Trek 2.0 stuff around it.

So X-Play and Icons is about it.

"Can you believe we get paid to play game?!"

Yes if you're a game tester, but that's a 1 in a 1,000,000 job to get. Not to mention you'd be stuck playing Barbie's Horse Adventure for 13 hours depending on the company that hired you. We're talking a 16 hour work day here. Working with either 3D Max, Maya, or XSI depending on which company. Then you'll have to master every Adobe program to render out and make interface design. Musical Scores are not written overnight and don't let thet jerk Tommy Tallarico fool you about how easy it is when he just got a lucky start. And it's even more hellish if your an Art Designer because they expect atleast 4 fully rendered concept drawings under 8 hours. Look at a guy like Feng Zhu and you'll see why the competition is hard in this department. In fact here is one of his sketches:

http://img.verycd.com/posts/0508/post-221442-1123983505.jpg

That took him less than 2 hours and he still doesn't think it's finished. In fact he looked as if he wasn't trying when he drew this in his tutorial. Using perspective was like a reflex with this guy and he did this all without any reference. That's what I call hardcore.

"You need to tweak the graphics more."

And you need to shut the Hell up, kid. If you're not an expert with modeling in HDRI since that will be the future of gaming now, then you're no where close to understanding how difficult it is to create a high poly model or even an enviroment. Put down the controller and get back to work.

In the end you'll be making stuff for video games more than actually playing anything at all. That's why handhelds will become your friend during those long waits at the bus stop or going to the bathroom.

Yea, Tommy Tallerico is mostly a bit of a jerk. To be honest I watched alittle bit of Fastlane today but only because I felt like I needed a laugh, that show is so bad even the chase scene between the classic "Bullitt looking" mustang and generic macho Ford truck looked stupid as it probably would've been somewhat entertaining if they would stop playing with the slow-mo effects which are used a lot on there (possibly to lessen their work) and I know theres gotta be atleast one mustang fan on here, (Not you Flaming Mustang, you're more into Rolls-Royces) just so I can get more people to dislike the show they wrecked an old Mustang in that episode I watched, I didn't see all of the car so I don't know if they wrecked a fastback or regular, I honestly have no interest in Ford Mustangs or any American Ford ('cept maybe pintos) although I'm quite fond of their foriegn Fords. I watched X-play today and it was done in its new style but the reveiws and such were old, Adam wasn't one of the hosts but hopfully will be back. Big thanks to those who read all of this post as you most likely had alot of time on your hands, or feet.

Not even X-Play. I was one of the lucky people that had Tech TV back in the day, and I personally never cared for Morgan Webb. I was a Cat Schwartz person. Extended Play was a lot more enjoyable to me.

I RARELY watch G4. If Icons is on, I'll watch it and it's rarely on when I'm around. Sometimes (rarely though) I'll watch X-Play, see "what the hell is going on" on AOTS (overall dislike that show), and if they are playing a new show I take a peak at what's going on. Geez, when Cartoon Network started airing less variety, the percentage of time I watched it dropped a lot but compared to G4's drastic changes, I happen to watch that channel EVEN less.

The only other times you'll catch me watching G4 is for E3 coverage and I might consider seeing TGS coverage.

Yea, unfortunaly through out most of it you'll be watching Midnight Spank ads, Scion or Mountain Dew ads, or just usless stuff. Iknow at the beginning of one of those somone said to not skip the ads if you had Tivo as they pay fine money, now who would tape something with or watch something tivo and leave all the ads in? I don't see why some people like Kristain Holt but if people watched cheat to see her thats understandable as the cheats and help things could just be found on Gamefaqs, you gotta feel sorry for her though as she had to say those lame lines on there and before every ad break she'd have to say "For a recap of these codes, check out G4tv.com\cheat", that really has to stink saying that over and over again.

IMO it is, but in a sense it really isn't. If you're great with math, you can learn how to do it within a half a year.

Ubisoft took advantage of this by setting up a studio in China with 1,000 wiz kids building programs and engines for games. Those people I fear could swipe a future job.

Yes and this year, without IGN's help, this year's E3 on G4 Coverage was very weak as opposed to last year's.

Kristin Holt is very pretty and isn't annoying unlike most other G4 personalities. It's a shame she is on such a lame show like Cheat.

G4's E3 '06 coverage was very disappointing, especially after their showing last year. They managed to cover more news at E3 '05 with much less air time. With the full unveiling of two consoles this year, you would think G4 would put in more content and less ads. I guess they saw this as their only chance to pull in viewers, since most people were only tuning in for E3. It's a shame the IGN/G4 coverage didn't happen again this year. The only segments worth watching were the game developer interviews and play tests.

Kristin Holt isn't too bad. At least she's not pretending to be an avid gamer, like what Olivia Munn seemed to be doing at E3. I've never been a fan of Cheat though, since the general premise is pointless. If they're going to have a true video game block, I wouldn't mind a show like Pulse returning. Although you can find the same information online, it's better than watching a bunch of cheat codes and walk throughs. If they're going to go as far as label 4-7PM a video game block, at least add more shows than just X-Play and Cheat.

I'll be impressed when you can turn on G4 and not just see reruns of Star Trek and X-Play.

Amen to that. The block should be a premiere of X-Play, a classic episode of Icons (because we know that new format is coming), Cheat (because G4 can't let go of that damn show, at least make new episodes), a Pulse show like you recommended which can be an hour long, and either create one new original gaming show or play a classic show (lots of G4 fans were crazy over Portal, I've never seen it.)

Oh yeah, I watched that new Ed the Sock's Late Night Party Show, and all I have to say to G4 is "Please go and beg Martin Sargent to come back to the channel. Offer him a 50% increase in pay, it's worth it." Attack of the Show fails to be that funny show and Ed the Sock fails even worse than AOTS.

I used to like G4 when it was all about games, but now it's just about electric gadgets, old cult television shows and un-funny crap like Happy Tree Friends. I miss the good old days, when Filter was hosted by Diane Mizota and Cheat was hosted by Cory Rouse. And seriously, what ever happened to G$TV.com, Blister, Portal, Players and even those Game Grub commercials? Basically, all it's doing is trying to be Spike TV 2, and if Viacom ever buys the channel, how much do you want to bet that will be it's new name?

Also, I miss Judgement Day, as well. It was nice having guys with actual opinions instead of liking everything everyone else likes. What ever network it ends up on here in America, I just hope that Tallarico and Lucas still stay as opinionated as ever.

I liked his reviews. Okay, so maybe he could be quite annoying at times, but alot of them I found to be rather good and funny even. His reviews for Kirby's Air Ride (even though, I admit, I like the game) and Bomberman Jetters, for example, I found to have some of his funniest quotes, enspecially "I'll stick [Kirby] up my bum, fart him out, and that will give your your Kirby air ride".

Could you image how many wii jokes he would have made if JD was still on the air? I didn`t like his review cause he would take off points for silly reasons like yoshi dools in the remake of MGS for the GC. I must say this, what the heck did G4 do to X-play on 1:30 PM (midwestern time) airing today? After the first game review they wasted over 5 minutes on a segment about breasts in video games that I mainly just put on the satellite guide over and looked through the channels and then went back, I think its obvious now that I do not care about polygon and pixelated half-naked woman. I was also watched their review of a horse racing game where in the beginning Adam says "Who in America plays these games?" and they show some names of the horses like "naked love" and then they talked about a mode where you can breed your own race horses and ofcourse knowing G4 they had to show some little joke where all they did was take a shot from "Hot Coffee", put a big black box in the center, and move some cut-and-paste images around while playing some hourse sound effects (I find the joke dumb) and then after the review Adam and Morgan were talking about renting it from Gamefly, why rent a game little to anyone plays? I do like how when they were talking about Gamefly they were talking like two people on an advertisement, kind of shows that they are advertising something and they're tired of G4 treating them like that. Dang! This is one long post for just a few stupid jokes from G4.

Here are some of the future episodes of Icons:

* With this summer's smash "Mission: Impossible III," J.J. Abrams has
emerged as one of Hollywood's A-list directors. ICONS traces Abrams's
accomplished career from child prodigy through his trio of television
hits, "Felicity," "Alias" and "Lost," and this summer's impending
blockbuster, "M.I. III," and features interviews with the stars and
co-workers who've joined Abrams on his impossible mission.

* They've been called the other girls next door -- the pierced, inked and
completely uninhibited Suicide Girls. Launched on the web in 2001,
this alternative take on the classic pin-up became an instant
sensation. ICONS goes back to the site's humble beginnings as founder
Missy Suicide takes viewers behind the scenes for a look at these
thoroughly modern bare-naked ladies.

* What started as a childhood obsession with urban street graffiti has
turned Marc Ecko into the C.E.O. of the clothing empire Ecko Unlimited
and the creator of the Atari game "Getting Up: Contents Under
Pressure." Ecko has also gained notoriety in legal battles with the
City of New York and a promotional hoax that caught the attention of
the White House. ICONS goes inside the world of Ecko to meet the man
behind the myth.

* Doing jail time for her much-publicized DUI is perfectly suited to the
'tough-chick' actress Michelle Rodriquez. Viewers can join in as ICONS
dukes it out with the star of "Girlfight," "The Fast and the Furious"
and ABC's "Lost."

* ICONS takes a semi-serious look at the never-serious web news
phenomenon, "The Onion." The episode will investigate the esteemed
history and careful journalistic standards that goes into the
publication of "America's Finest News Source."

* Over the past dozen years indie filmmaker Kevin Smith has built a huge
cult following through his films and his one-on-one relationship with
his fans. Since the surprise success of "Clerks," Smith and his
alter-ego, Silent Bob, have bombarded audiences with "Dogma,"
"Mallrats," and this summer's sequel, "Clerks 2." ICONS journeys
inside Smith's world to meet his band of merry-makers, and joins him on
a trip back to his New Jersey childhood.

* When the Parent's Television Council proclaimed "The Family Guy" the
worst-prime time show for family viewing in 2005, series creator Seth
McFarland couldn't have been more proud. ICONS looks at the making of
"The Family Guy" and gets to know the guy behind the "Guy."

I'll only watch the Michelle Rodriguez one if it talks about IGPX.

They all sound okay, I just find the "Suicide" Girls" episode stupid but it suits G4 judging by what they air. The others I don't know about but the Family Guy episode is understandable as it is popular with alot of people in the US, I'm just surprised Seth and those other people would let G4 make a show talking about them, except for the Suicide Girls as they seem like someone who'd actually want to be on a G4 show.

Wasn't Icons written by Tina Wood? With her gone it's really not that surprising they would turn it into trash. They had pretty much covered everything they could do with video games already.

I watch X-play every now and then, but not as much as I used to.

Could you image how many wii jokes he would have made if JD was still on the air? I didn`t like his review cause he would take off points for silly reasons like yoshi dools in the remake of MGS for the GC. I bate he would token point off for N E3 showing due to naming the new systeme wii. Althougth I dought anyone would blame him for that. He also hated 2D games. It just got to the point where I could not take the guy reviews seriously anymore.
I still remember when he gave Paper Mario a 1 out of 10 for the fact it had no voices and you had to read text.

Cinematech/NE, and X-play and maybe even Icons if it's an episode I liked(megaman, neogeo, ect.). They've gotten rid of every thing else that attracted me to the channels back when they were just G4 and TechTV.:crying:

Since G4 is adamant about their new direction, I wish they wouldn't waste so much of their time slots on repeats of X-Play. They could at least add in the "classic" Icons into their video game block, or other VG-related programs they show earlier in the day. After 3PM, the only thing you can find is X-Play and Star Trek.

Quality aside, does G4 not understand the concept of variety? How can they truly call themselves a network when they only air four or five shows on a regular basis? X-Play and AotS are the only programs producing new episodes daily. Why can't they do that with anything else?

I'll only watch the Michelle Rodriguez one if it talks about IGPX.Same here. Except for that and maybe the MacFarlane episode, I doubt I'll watch any new Icons. They really should just change the name of the channel.

Kinda funny, but earlier on, I browsed through G4 and they had new episodes of Electric Playground, and Cinematech on. Now if we can just get new episodes of Icon's about Video Games I'll be happy.

Game makers is the name of the new or old show that deals whit interviews of people that makes games or things that happend in days of VG past. The old icon is still around, just what a different name.
