View Full Version : Cartoons that somehow manage to sneak Adam West in

Adam West has been guest-starring in more cartoons over the last 15 years than any other star; and perhaps he's set the record. Everywhere I look, there the guy is.

The Simpsons -- himself
The Critic -- himself
BTAS -- The Grey Ghost
Animaniacs -- an unnamed Batman knockoff
Histeria -- a superhero
Family Guy -- himself
The Batman -- the police chief

He was also on a Nickelodeon show, but I've forgotten which one.

And it's not over yet (until he dies). West's performance in Family Guy has been great, and he's gained many younger fans through it. He has a real talent for saying bizarre things with absolute sincerity, which have made up most of his roles and probably got him the part of such a campy Batman in the first place.

Adam West has also done work for Kim Possible, voicing Timothy North, the actor who starred in the campy 'Fearless Ferret' TV series (it's *supposed* to be confusing.)

Mr. West likewise 'appeared' on Johnny Bravo, but I don't remember who he played.

A rule of thumb in animation is that you must have Adam West or William Shatner, or at the least a very good cariacture of either one of them on at least one episode.

I wish Adam West had gone in for voice work full bore when his career hit a lull after "Batman". He's got real talent for it, and even at that he's put together a rather impressive resume.

I believe he also did the Grey Ghost in the FOX Batman series.

Eyes on the Prize. The one where he gets fired and has to teach the new cab drivers in NY how to speak english.

And that role, unlike most of 'em, was genuinely poignant because it paralleled West's own situation. He played an aged actor who couldn't get work because he was so closely associated with one role on an old superhero TV series.

Didnt he play batman on the superfriends tv show as well? Yep. He provided the voice of Batman during the show's final season (aka the season with Cyborg).

West played himself on Johnny Bravo.

This version of Adam West is also the model that Adam West took on in Family Guy. Watching both eps, you see the similarities. Seth MacFarlane wrote that episode as well.

Adam West had brown hair in Johnny Bravo. He has grey hair in Family Guy.

It's actually the Mayor. I just noticed how he plays the mayor in a few other shows too.

I've sometimes wondered why Adam West wasn't approached for Catman when the Justice League episode "Legends" was being produced, since Catman and Ray Thompson were spoof Batman and Robin from the 1960s show.

since Catman and Ray Thompson were spoof Batman and Robin from the 1960s show.

I always thought Catman was mainly a parody of the golden/silver age version of Wildcat, and Ray was a parody of Snapper Carr (the silver age Justice League sidekick).

Mr. West likewise 'appeared' on Johnny Bravo, but I don't remember who he played. That episode was great. Not only were they refrencing the 60's Batman series, they also spoofed/homaged "Batman Beyond".

I meant his acting portrayal. West appaers much closer to "reality" than his JB version which is idealized.

Does anyone feel major sympathy for Mr. West? I mean I know that he gets the self-deprication humor, but really what are the chances of Mr. West getting more Mayor Grange or Gray Ghost roles instead of loony Adam West especially after all of his apperances on Fairly OddParents and Family Guy?

I mostly feel sympathy after seeing him do the Catman role in Fairly Oddparents for the one hundredth time. Family Guy has yet to use him in the cliche Batman parody role that everyone else has while Fairly Oddparents has no problem running it into the ground.

I believe that Seth McFarlane stated they'll never do a 'Adam West as Batman' joke.

...and after reading all the posts in this thread and you're still not satisfied, check out all 148 TV entries and 58 filmography entries on http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001842/ There's some cartoons in there he did voice work for like Shazam in 1974!

Adam West is like William Shatner--- they've both embraced their role in pop culture.

Adam West is my HERO! :D

He was at the Motor City Comic-Con just a week back, along with a few other actors who work with him on the Live-Action Batman TV Series. There were long lines just to see him. My personal favorite of his voice acting roles was him doing the voice of Gray Ghost in the Batman TAS.

He was on I AM Weasel where the cartoons were all at an old age home. And one of them was Adam West looking very old.
