Hey,

If any of you happen to be reading the mainstream Spider-Man titles at current time of writing, you'll probably notice that they all pretty much suck. The writers have no idea how to treat the character, the artists seem to completly work against Spider-Man's rather unique tone and things aren't looking up at all, to be blunt.

However, amongst a sea of creators who really can't seemed to be arsed to do anything with the character is one of comics' finest pencilers still delievering his charming, colourful and talented pages no matter how terrible his script. Ladies and gentlemen, Mike Wieringo!

Having seen his run on Sensational Spider-Man and some of his other artwork over the years, mainly his outstanding run on Fantastic Four, I'd abosloutly love to see Mike designs chosen for the next Spider-Man animated series. How about you? Do you think they'd translate? Would you want them to? Click on the link above to see more of his artwork.

I like this designs I don't read Spider-man comics so I can't tell you nothing about the scripts but this design is good. I can't believe I'm saying this but I prefer the U design it seems good in the video game

I could be quoted as saying the exact same thing, although the only thing I would add is how the Ultimate Spiderman design is and should be exclusively for Peter's younger years, because that's what he looks like as a teenage squirt.

This Mike Weiringo guy's stuff sure looks spot on. I'd love to spalunk for more, and it could possibly work animated, but despite the condition current Spiderman comics are in (not including Ultimate, because it's doing awesome) I thought the artwork and overall designs were still cool. I forget which come to mind.

The strangest thing, though, is I've never thought of more animated Spiderman at all. That's very odd, considering SpidermanTAS is my Marvel forte. Hmm. I have to think about this now. Do I want it, would I want it to look like this, would I want it at all? Hmm.

I wouldn't really know about the state of the character in the comics since I haven't bought a Spider-Man title in ages. What I've heard doesn't sound particularly appealing, though. Pete being some kind of spider God destined to get his powers, dying and being born again, and now he's wearing Iron Man stuff?

I'll stick with the movies. They seem to have the best grasp of what Spidey's all about.

I've heard that Marvel Adventures Spidey title is pretty good, though. Very classic Lee/Romita Jr style kind of stuff.

Anyway, off topic... Wieringo's style could work quite well for animation, considering how simple and wrinkle free most of his designs are. It doesn't hurt that they're pleasing to the eye, too. He also seems to be able to show Spidey in any awkward position without noticeably exaggerating his limbs, which is always a plus.

Don't bother with the current mainstream Spider-Man comics. All of them are currently pretty disappointing. Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel Adventures Spider-Man are a worth picking up.

As for whether or not Weiringo's style would look good animated -- Yes! It would look gorgeous in motion. His Spider-Man is usually dead on concerning portion. He's not too skinny but not too bulky either. He's able to make him look exactly as he should and the style can really balance both the dark and lighter material. His style would definitely translate beautifully into animation.

Yeah I think Wieringo's style is definately animatable, though some of the rounded subtlties in his style would have to be phased out by more angular lines, especially if it were used for an animated series. I think his style can be preserved pretty well for animation though, and I think it's a unique enough take on Spider-Man that deserves strong consideration to be animated :).
