Inspired by the Worst Comic Shop Experience topic, What is your worst game store experience? I'll tell one or two of mine later as right now my father is rushing me so I can go somewhere.

I had a bad time once at a now closed Babbages where some grump there wouldn't take a game I was returning that was used and back then you could do that within 99 days and I returned it within 20 he took it but he said that was my final warning and I got a Croc 2 game that was in real bad shape and it's disc is laying about somewhere, if anyone wants it it's theirs for free.

While in a Fry's Electronics, I wanted to buy a copy of Wind Waker. The game was locked up in a glass case and to get a copy I needed an employee working the section to unlock it. This fool working the section is just playing snake on his cell phone and when I ask him to unlock it he just goes

"uuuuhh...ask him to do it." he points to this other idiot doing nothing. I go to him, ask him to open the case and he says:

"uuuuhh...ask him to do it." AND POINTS TO THE GUY I ASKED THE FIRST TIME!!! I left the store plenty pissed. Bought Wind Waker somewhere else.

I went into an EB and asked about pre-ordering a Revolution.

The clerk began mocking it (and me) relentlessly. The other clerk joined in. Most of their insults were really moronic. Mostly, I was insulted that they would even speak that way to a customer.

So, the next day, I went in and talked to a manager about their behavior. Haven't seen them there since.

EB/Gamestop/babbages are horrible stores, i don't see why people always like to go there, their prices are horrible and you can get anything there wth better service in many other places,
besides clueless parents that just go to it since its already there inside the mall idon't see why anyone would want to go there.

That actually almost makes it a worthwhile experience in my eyes.

Yeah, looking back on it, it was kind of satisfying.

One can be limited to certain stores by one's locale.

They're the only game stores located around here aside from the large chain stores like Bestbuy, Toys R Us, Circut City, Target and Walmart

There's a dozen GS/EB stores that pepper the area, any of the Babbages that once existed became one of them.

I prefer the big chains. The employees there are generally clueless, but being clueless is better than being a too-cool-for-the-room bag of ****** like most game store employees.

My worst game store experience was when I asked this clerk at gamestop if they had that service someone told me in the mal they had to clean your disc for you. Then clerk was so rude I stormed out the store and busted out laughing cause I heard the manager yelling at her .:p

Second time was at Game express in my neighborhood. This guy was so rude to me he said "Well if it isn't over there we don't have it." (I knew it was there cause i saw it in the other clerk's hands) I said "Could you check in the back?"
He said" No". So i leave then enter back in 10 minutes later and ask the other guy there he said "yeah i have one right here." I buy it, and I stare at the other guy with a mean look and walk out. He looked like he wanted to strangle me:sweat:

Ah, yes. My infamous "MP: Hunters" fiasco.

I just walked in to preorder the game. I put the ten dollars down and waited till the Friday when it came out. I zoomed over to pick it up...and they didn't have it. They said it wouldn't come in until Monday.

I went in on Monday and they told me Nintendo pushed the release day back to the NEXT Friday. (LIIIIIEEES!) I called next Friday...and they didn't have it. I went there and demanded my money back. I then proceeded to buy it from EBGames.

Moral: Blockbuster sucks, don't buy anything unless it's on sale and they don't know how cool it is. (cough:cough:GobletofFireDS:cough:cough)

Okay....as of today, I have a tale for this thread.

The only store that has New Super Mario Bros. on sale (as in discounted) is Circuit City, so I headed there this evening. I could have been there this morning easily, but they wouldn't sell it until 5 pm, which was kind of an inconvenient time. It was scorching hot (in the 90's) and I missed three buses getting there (in a row). "How on Earth can anyone miss three buses in a row?" Well, I can.

So I was already in a foul mood once I stepped into Circuit City 'round six. I found the DS shelf....and the game wasn't there.

"Hey, can I help you," said a clerk, faking eagerness as usual. That was as far as his usefulness went, however. He tried within the limited capacity of his brain to help, but emphasis on try....he had no idea what to do; he'd never heard of the game before and was looking on the rack to find it. In the GBA section. I told him, "If it was out there, it'd be right there plain to see." He didn't listen....

"Okay, like, I don't know, man, but that guy knows all about games; HE oughta be able to help." He pointed to a man who was helping a blind couple decide what DVD to buy. Five minutes later, the man was still doing that, and of course I couldn't approach him, those people were BLIND...

They ended up choosing Season 1 of Growing Pains. Your guess is as good as mine.

Nobody else in the store was any help; all the other guys were either talking with each other or listening to their Ipods or whatever. Finally, I walked to the Customer Service counter....and there was a big stack of New Super Mario Bros. copies. Think about how they missed this.

And they almost wouldn't sell it to me because they didn't know if they should yet. I convinced them by pointing out it said I could buy it after 5 pm IN THEIR AD. They were so incompetent, I almost walked over to EB Games and paid more out of spite.
......But I didn't.

^ Dang, you had a bad day!^ I'm glad you didn't go to EB as you'd be getting ripped and be supporting a really bad "game" store. Did you get my e-mail about those Rocko comics?

Circuit City is a real pain for game buying. Their game shelves are always a huge, unorganized mess.

Me and Verminium went to Circuit City yesterday. We found NSMB on shelves before 5, which was no problem?

The real problem? The hunt for DDR: Mario Mix. It was at customer service, and the person didn't know they could sell it yet.

How come at CC that can't sell a game they have until a certain time?

Once, when I was 17, I got carded for Eternal Darkness [ROFL, yes], and since my license wasn't on me at the time and all I had was my school ID, they wouldn't let me buy it. I was frakkin' older than the damn clerk.

Rules are rules. If that happened at my job, I wouldn't sell it to you either.

Well, it was two years ago so I'm over it. But at this point, I really don't support those laws so much... It's just making the games more desirable to children, and they can use their parents to get them very easily [who pays for the games anyways?].

If ESRB ratings aren't enforced, it justifies all the crazy laws that various states are trying to pass (many of which equate video games to pornography, and regulate them as such).

Out of curiosity, why would a well-informed consumer go to a game store? If you know exactly what you want, where's the advantage? I never frequent game stores. I buy at Wal-Mart (or online) and sell on ebay.

Game stores do have their advantages in that they provide information and advice, but most people can get those things off of the interweb. Outside of a clueless aunt looking to buy somthing for her neice or nephew, I don't see the appeal.

The only thing that remotely constitutes a bad experience occured at CC where I spent almost 15 minutes looking for someone to open the game case for me.

And to be fair, the folks at my nearest EB have been nothing but nice to me. Maybe I'm just lucky. :p

I believe I addressed this earlier in the thread. If your physical access is limited to a game store, what's the alternative?

For instance, Before I moved a few months ago, an EB was the only choice I had apart from driving completely out of town (which I did frequently). Where I am now, the only alternatives to EB are Circuit City and Toys R Us, neither of which have appealing game sections (and both of which are in pretty bad parts of town).

And I'd rather go without than give any of my money to Walmart (not that one even exists in the county I live in -- it's one of the few places that's managed to keep them out).

This is probably slightly irrational, but I've always hated buying video games from a store where I have to ask an employee to retrieve it for me from a locked display case...

Outside of a clueless aunt looking to buy somthing for her neice or nephew, I don't see the appeal. Bigger selection of games and sometimes cheaper prices. I say sometimes because I got MK:Shaolin Monks for the PS2 new at Best Buy and yes on Gamespot it says $29.99 but thats false. MK:SM used at Slackers is $18.00 which I could never find PS2 version and at Gamestop\EB it is $26.99 used which the only advantage you get buying it from there used is a warranty if it breaks, I'm not sure about if you're not satisfied and to the guy who only has an EB as a game store: I suggest move when you can or something or get games from Ebay, it's gotta stink having your only gamestore being an EB.
