View Full Version : Sequals that shouldn't be

This was sparked up in the Cinderella 2 thread...but...
What movie doesn't-deserve a sequal, THE MOST?
This can mean it was simply a bad movie to begin with. Or simply it ended just right the first time, and the story shouldn't be continued!
The Fast & The Furious. It ended so right. If they EVER think to make a sequal, I'll be super-pissed.
Super Mario Brothers. Uhm...I liked it when I was young & stupid...but, now that I'm more growed up, & have some taste...I would vomit at the sight of a sequal. :D

Well, to first burst a bubble or two... Please Check this link (http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/fastandthefurious2.html)
...I myself wouldn't mind a SMB sequel... =X The first movie wasn't THAT bad (for a cheesy Video Game Remake, after all, how much do you have to go on in these cases...) and it DID have the ending that set up for the sequel...
In my opinion... There's no need for:
Scary Movie 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. etc. etc... They just get worse as the number increases
Battlefield Earth 2... the first movie bombed, yet they are making this sequel? yes, that makes sense

If there’s one movie franchise that should be left alone it’s the Back to the Future trilogy. It’s so perfect that a sequel would only hurt the overall story.
I would also agree that Super Mario Brothers should not get a sequel, especially since it had nothing to do with the game besides the names of the characters.

Well, there are the obvious classics that don't need a sequel:
* Casablanca
* Citizen Kane
* Vertigo
etc.

That's not true, they were plumbers.
Someone mentioned Scary Movie sequels. I heard the potential 3rd one will spoof movies such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
When it comes to crappy unnecessary sequels, no one beats Disney. They've capitalized on just about every classic that's come out since before the studio became completely shameless. The name Disney pretty much guarantees either a half-[expletive deleted] sequel, a [expletive deleted] remake, or Snow Dogs.

Back to the Future 4..........
Why make another when the first 3 were pure gold? We really don't need one that doesn't have Michael J. Fox or Christopher Lloyd in them. Plus the Time Machine was destoryed, what kind of cheesy way would they try to bring it back with?
I mean they MADE those movies what they are.

You know whats worse than half-assed sequels and bastardized remakes? A half-[expletive deleted] sequel TO a [expletive deleted] remake (102 Dalmatians). Thats like in multiplicity when they made the clone of a clone and it came out retarded.

The Goonies. I just think they should leave it the way it is, an 80s movie from my childhood.
Austin Powers - I liked the first movie when it came out, the second was OK, but we just don't need a third! It's getting really old, really fast!
Cinderella, Peter Pan, etc. They were just fine the way they were.
The Land Before Time - I love the first movie, but they're beating a dead horse by releasing a gazillion sequals.
There's more, just can't think of them at the moment. :dot:

Secret of NIHM. Yes, it already has a sequel, but I vow to *BURN EVERY SINGLE COPY IN EXISTENCE!!!*
::pant::pant::: Moving on...
No pre-Eisner Disney movie needs a sequel (for that matter, some of the more recent films as well...then again, what HASN'T been sequalized yet? Tarzan?)
Cinderella 2? What the slag?! I'm in denial! At least tell me the film's going to the big screen (HA!)
PETER PAN 2?! C'mon, ain't the Movie Hook with Robin Williams enough (granted, it wasn't a Disney flick, but...)? Some people...
Shrek. NO.
Legend. HELL NO.
See Spot Run. One's enough. QUITE enough!
*sighs* I got a triple headache just thinking about these...

We all know the teaser trailer would go like this:
Bill Paxton: "Rose, Jack is still waiting for you. Only a magic spell can bring him back. But in order for it to work, you need to retrieve the coeur de la mer (the heart of the ocean). That means going back to the Titanic."
Old Rose: "Suit me up."
--
Old Rose: "(banging on door of submarine)"
Some Guy: "If you don't let her in, she'll drown!"
Bill Paxton: "Then so be it! I WANT THAT DIAMOND! (punches control panel)"
--
Old Rose: "(reaching up at boat from rapid waves) Let me up!"
Bill Paxton: "First give me the diamond!"
Old Rose: "(lets go and falls down waterfall, camera falls with her)"
Bill Paxton: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
--
(titles scroll in: "TITANIC 2: RETURN TO THE ICE")
Jack: ".... Rose ...."

Tomb Raider. They were talking about a trilogy but...gah...
Titanic CAN'T have a sequel. Rose AND Jack are both dead.
Basic Instinct 2 was rumored but should never be made...
I think they need to leave Indiana Jones and Back to the Future alone. No more Jurassic Park, please...or Lethal Weapon...
The Fast and The Furious is getting a sequel.
Bond ALWAYS needs a sequel.

Oh yeah, and it's not like the Sixth Sense needs a sequel either, it ended with the first one.
The Back to the Future stuff, it was meant for 3 movies which is why after BttF1&2 it would say "To be continued" and on the 3rd one it said "The End."
So we either get a sequel to a movie that doesn't need a sequel and a sequel would just kill it, or we get another teen movie that has to do with some starring pop star, some unknown, some cheesy teen show star or just a flat-out bad actor and it's all about them and this crazy adventure thing that is screwed up and it ends with a happy ending.
Either way, something will be made if it's gonna make money and they'll put anything in it to get more... Sounds like the movie industry is being taken over my drug companies. :p

I really think they should stop the Jurassic Park movies. They through out a great involving Human and Dinosaur clones for a 90 minute movie. Granted, JP3 was enjoyable, it just wasn't all that great. They should en dit now before the ruin it. 3 movies is enough. And Jurassic Park Trilogy sound sbetter than Jurrasic Park Series. And Fast & The Furious 2 is coming, and they plan to go ahead with or without Walker and Deisel.
Bond is the only movie that should be allowed to have sequels, unless it's an already planned trilogy (or series) of movies. Granted, there were the rare good sequels like Aliens and Temrinator 2, but enough is enough...
There was a TV movie a few years ago that was a sequel to Gone with the Wind,,,What idiots, how could one even think of that....I see Cinderella 2, sparked this... I wouldn't be surprised if Disney came out with Dumbo 2.....another not so great move if they make it, which I wouldn't be surprised at...good luck to all Stuart

I believe "Aliens" is the second best sequel ever made, with the Maltese Falcon being the best. (two other versions of the Falcon were made before, the Bogart version, I am not sure that would qualify as a sequel,,,otherwise "Aliens" really outshines the origingal in so many ways. It is one of the great horror/action movies of all time. Stuart

That's a "remake," not a sequel. Remakes are retellings of the same original material, like the Clooney remake of the Sinatra "Ocean's 11." Sequels and prequels are new stories containing the same characters or continuations of the same plot events.

What About Star Wars? Huh...HUH!
Granted things aren't living up to the fans expectations, but I want to see two & three damnit!
Star Trek needs to be put out of it's misery...
The TNG films haven't been as good as the TOS films which went 50-50 on the good-crap scale...
The newest one scares me...it's gonna be so bad..
Not only is it going to concentrate on Picard, Riker, Troi, Data...it's going to introduce a new android, a bad guy, the "boy" (ie the guy who make Neelix seem enjoyable) is coming back to save the ship, and frankly...you can't tell a good story with 7 main characters...it just doesn't work. Plus screen time for the rest of the tng cast, Janeway, a plot device for getting Worf on board..*sigh*
Oddly, the worst movie sequel, I believe, was Aliens Resurection, or Aliens 4, It totally destroyed the tone, style, and combative nature, of the previous 3 pictures...It was awful, In one scene Ripley clone, is acutally having some sort of intimate relationship with the things...Exactly the opposite of the first two, the third was kind of bad, but the fourth, and anyone who saw it, I would like to hear on it; I believe was so bad, that I just about walked out. and that I never do on a movie. Good Luck to all Stuart

I have the DVD and yeah...it does suck. There are a few impressive moments with the creatures during some action sequences, but overall the movie was a let down. The ending is bad and hilarious. The "Alien giving birth like a human" thing was just wrong from the get go. Plus the alien/human hybrid child look like a pile of poo.
I would've rathar have seen Aliens VS. Predator than Aliens 4.

Actually, they are making a "Dumbo II." Dumbo meets a bunch of baby animals or something.
A sequel should not be made of anything more than a decade old, IMO. Part of what makes those old Disney movies so enjoyable are the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 60s techniques and sensabilities that went into them.
Oh, and Rose does die in the original, that's why it ends with he being welcomes by all the dead passengers on the Titanic.

Bagh! I like Star Trek. Besides First Contact was good, better than some of the TOS movies. But nothing beats II, best ST movie ever, and on the bright side it's a sequel 10 times better than the original. :)
As for 10? My understanding is that Burton, Dorn, Spiner and (I believe) Stewart all want this to be their last appearance in Star Trek. I'd suspect that at least two of them are going to be killed off. Spiner was even asking them to kill of Data, not because he's tired of the character (I believe he's said that it's one of his favorite roles) but because he doesn’t want the character to age with him. That would also explain the new android.
At any rate as long as it's better than Generations or Insurrection I'll be happy. I also do hope that this is the last TNG movie, and since Voyager couldn't hold a movie, DS9 would be better served by a sequel TV miniseries and Enterprise has just started, if they want to continue the movies they'd probably be best off with an original movie only cast.

The Mighty Ducks movies. A little overdone for my taste, especially when the only reason that Anaheim has a hockey team is because of that movie. One was passable, two was barely permissible, but three... I heard a rumor of D4, but I doubt that has any truth. Look how the team is doing  .

I think they could pull off a good part 4 to the Indy series; all the originals would be back. But by the time George Lucas is done with the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Harrison Ford will be roughly 93 years old and Sean Connery will be a head in a jar.

Tell that to the producers of Terminator 3. James Cameron (writer & director of the first two) is not involved, which means it definitely won't be worthy of the first two. T2 was made because Cameron had a good idea. T3 is being made because these other guys want to make money.

There are only four Vacation movies, and they weren't that bad. Now, a fourth Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie would almost certainly go back to the comic book roots of the characters and not repeat the mistakes of the sequels to the original good movie. So if you don't wish to see it, just don't go.

That's your own interpretation. That is not necessarily the official meaning of the ending; it's up to each viewer to decide for himself if she's either dead or dreaming or if the whole thing is just closure for the audience.

Like the idea of a movie only cast - that could save the franchise if they did it right - which they wouldn't of course..

I very muched enjoyed B5 when it came out - I thought the movies and CRUSADE were dire. River Of Souls possibly being the worst.
Pity - should have let the story end with the finale of series 4 - then I think the show would be remembered with a greater respect than hindsight currently bestows it.

Season 5 was hindered by the fact that JMS was forced to put more into Season 4 than he intended..
However, two of my favorite B5 eps were in Season 5, "Day of the Dead" and "A View From The Gallery"

Season 5 was lackluster at best, and the dynamics were all messed up, with Sheridan off to the side, the captain (Commander? It's been a while) of the station forgettable and bland, and the main focus on the telepath's plight.
And yes, the B5 movies blew. Even "In the Beginning"- it was redundant, since the show mentioned the event all the time, and it used a lot of stock footage.

I dunno about everyone else, but when Kirk dies, Star Trek movies STOP. Thats just how the game is played in my book.
I think Episode 2 will be good, so...as far as Star Wars movies go, Episode 1 shouldn't have happened, & Episode 3 is what ties everything together, so its necessary. But I don't think Episode 1 as necessary...aside from introducing everyones favorite Darth Maul into the picture. Ah...I love that guy(except for at the end. He was just standing there! Then *shink*!
