JBL has been playing mind games with Rey Mysterio since his Judgment Day title shot was announced. Can Rey-Rey survive The Great Khali?

When Friday Night SmackDown rolls into San Diego this week, it could be a hometown slaughter for World Champion Rey Mysterio.
Last week, Rey said he would fight anyone at anytime; JBL took advantage of Rey’s words, making him a match against Mark Henry. After the World’s Strongest Man defeated and assaulted Mysterio, JBL continued to make Rey eat his words, making a match between Mysterio and The Great Khali for this week.
A proud and fighting man, Rey Mysterio will not back down from his word, especially in front of his family and friends in San Diego. But with an opponent who is over seven feet tall and 420 pounds on the other side of the ring, there seems to be no way that Rey will leave the 619 intact.
Also this week, Finlay will meet Bobby Lashley in a King of the Ring tournament semi-final match. The winner will move on to face Booker T in the finals at Judgment Day. Lashley took exception to Booker T’s words last week, telling the 5-time WCW Champion that he would defeat him. But first, Lashley must get by Finlay, a man he has never beaten. The two have built quite a rivalry in recent months; can Lashley finally overcome the fighting Irishman, or will Finlay punch his ticket to the finals?
In addition, Nunzio, Super Crazy and Kid Kash square off in a No. 1 Contender's Match. The winner will get an opportunity at the Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms at Judgment Day.
Don’t miss what’s sure to be an eventful edition of SmackDown this Friday night at 8/7 CT on UPN.

They couldn't have been anymore right. It was a complete squash.I usually don't post the thread this early, but I thought I was going to busy. Let's keep the spoilers at nothing until it actually airs on UPN starting in 10 minutes.

It airs on WOR (My 9) at 8 tomorrow.
Based on the spoilers, really nothing to write home about.
JBL is a mic work......GOD.
I'm really scared for the main event, and Rey Misterios booking in general.
Nice to see the PWG champ (Joey Ryan) doing the job to the gymini. Hopefully they'll make a reference to it on their next DVD cover.
The squashes today are way too long.
haha, Rey looks horrible with that cap. It looks like something someone working at burger king would wear.
The way this is going, the only way to not make Rey look bad is to have him sqash JBl in 3 seconds at JDday, then beat bot Khali and Henry in a "flag on a six foot pole" match.

i'm really ticked that they fed burchill to henry. i realize it's a little more interesting than just watching him crush funaki, but i was hoping they'd at least give burchill a little more time before they make him the new simon dean...at least it's looking that way.
speaking of which, strangely absent during the other squash match with his boys gemini. and no mention by cole or tazz, so i guess they're gearing up for the return of nova at the one night stand with the b.w.o hopefully blue meanie keeps a good distance from j.b.l this time out.
anyone else notice tazz using the joey styles attitude on cole during the king of the ring match? how he was telling cole it's okay to call them wrestlers, etc...nice how they're subtly building elements on smackdown for the looming ecw ppv also....
altogether i really like how the king of the ring has turned out so far. there were some good matches with of course the annual, unavoidable injury to a main star leading to an automatic advance...'king lashley' has a good ring to it.
and we get not one but two spots for see no evil this time out yeeeee hawww....i really wish i could have been seated next to trish at the preimere what with all the scary parts.:nurse:
jbl has been doing a great job selling this fued with rey. as always his promos have been hilarious. i just wish they could have booked this fued without rey getting crushed each week. they're really beating the underdog thing into the ground now. it'll all pay off when he pins jbl n all but still.
and let's see...next week is MAY 19 and rey has a mystery opponent.....

Would J-Me-L be that crazy to bring Kane over for one night to continue an angle on Raw for the benefit of Smackdown's biggest ego? Probably, but the only other candidate would be someone who "quit" recently. That would be Chavo Guerrero, who could be brainwashed into going after Rey, with J-Me-L playing the jealousy card as a motivating point.
Hmmm. No Simon Dean w/Gymini, and they're squashing rent-a-jobbers this week. No Shelly w/Paul Burchill, either, and he was the one getting squashed. Looks like Capt. Paul's push has been stopped rather abruptly, but with that new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film due soon, I'd say they wanted to hold off on furthering the push until the movie actually lands in theatres.
Melina claimed that Jillian looked better with the blemish? Oh, give me a break! Team Poseur needs a reality check, and fast. And speaking of reality checks....
What's happened to Mike Mizanin? No more video promos, no more appearances since Palmer Canon threw him out of the building 3 weeks ago. With Canon gone, Miz's debut has been pushed back apparently. Meh.
Did J-Me-L take over the Smackdown Uncreative team while no one was looking? I realize Stephanie may be cutting back her workload due to her pregnancy, but leaving it in the hands of J-Me-L is asking for trouble. Funny doesn't describe his xenophobic promos. Offensive does. Why doesn't Teddy Long do something to stop the 10 Gallon Carpetbagger making matches for Mysterio? Here's a thought. J-Me-L could be confronted next week, and told that he'll have to put up the US title vs. the World title. He'd better job at the PPV.

a good idea, but i think they might save that one for the ppv finish.

Birchill, Finlay, and Mysterio all get jobbed out? More squash matches than two weeks worth of Impacts? What happened to you, Smackdown? You used to be so awesome. Kash-Crazy-Nunzio and Lashley-Finlay were pretty good (though I say the wrong guy went over in the KotR match), but the killed Pirate Paul push and the complete squash of the WORLD CHAMPION completely canceled out all of that goodness. That was just inexcusably stupid.
And what was the deal with that bit with OJ talking about Vito crossdressing? I kinda fear where this angle may be going.

In total agreement. The writers are on crack, and someone other than Stephanie's running things, apparently.

Well, they were planning an angle to have Buckwheat go bi, but apparently the buck's being passed to Vito. Now who did Vito piss off? I hope they just send him to ECW w/Nunzio and get him away from Buckwheat, professional heat leech. Otay? Otay!;) :p :D

Ever since Kurt Angle got injured I haven't really watched much of SD since he was my main reason for watching. I did watch RAW and read the SD results and all I really have to say is wrestling this week pretty much sucked. What's going on? :(
I don't see whats wrong with Finlay putting Lashley over strong, as the KOTR is usually a tourney for younger guys. Hopefully they'll draw out Lashleys title shot to way late in the year so he can improve.
Loved the no-sell of the chair shopt by Lashley, showed some fghting siprit, and he went right back to selling it after the pin. I also loved Finlays knee to the face to counter the spear, just shows why he's in the top 3 in the world.
I must take a screencap of Books face in the throne, he looked so funny trying to be "mafioso"`.

JBL kicked off the show with a strong promo that charged up the crowd and got them motivated to back Mysterio (as if they needed it) and hate him. Anyone else it would have been cheap hit, but coming from the mouth of the U.S. Champion it fit perfectly.
The cruiserweights always prove themselves when they are given a chance on the big show and that was the case here as well. I really liked the finish with Crazy rolling up Nunzio as Kash attacked thin air. I felt Gregory Helms sounds a little different than I remember, but it’s possible he just had a sore throat. I don’t think we’ve ever had him on commentary before so that was nice.
Teddy did not appear to be enjoying his meeting with Kurt Angle. I hope the Olympic gold medalist is not pushing his return. I don’t want him to get hurt again and this time badly.
Not quite sure we had to watch the Gymini squash a couple of jobbers. The fact that someone thought enough to give them a match were there was no question they would win should concern fans who are already concerned about Jake and Jesse everywhere.
Booker T displays almost a cartoon-level of arrogance these days, but it seems to suit him more than it doesn’t. Glad to see he had the night off to fully accent what Lashley and Finlay had to go through. I dig it. In the match, Lashley-Finlay really brought everything together from their previous brawls and made for a very solid match. SmackDown! really is more about the wrestling.
Hearing Nitro and Mercury talk I realized it’s been a very long time since we’d heard from anyone other than Melina for more than a sentence or two. I liked the whole segment, I just don’t think a match would have really worked that well after all the other matches we have had. I feel like I should be concerned that Johnny and Joey wear matching, shiny underwear.
 Mark Henry just destroyed Paul Burchill!! I wouldn’t want a pirate’s life for me after seeing something like that! He just never had a chance. (On a side note, I hope the absence of Shelly “the buxom wench” is not a sign that she is already done. )
Since WWE is putting forth all this effort to reintroduce Tatanka, I predict he’ll be released by the Royal Rumble.
Whether the whole cross-dressing rumor is for Vito’s character or Orlando’s character I don’t see it ending well.
Ohmygod Khali is huge!! A couple camera angles they used really accented how big he is. Rey is small anyway, but looking up at the 7 foot 3 Indian tiger he looked like a midget.
Why doesn't Teddy Long do something to stop the 10 Gallon Carpetbagger making matches for Mysterio? Here's a thought. J-Me-L could be confronted next week, and told that he'll have to put up the US title vs. the World title. He'd better job at the PPV.JBL isn't officially booking Mysterio in these matches. Rey said he would take on anyone and Bradshaw is calling his bluff by saying "here's an opponent for ya." Rey has too much pride to back down and he wouldn't want Long to 'save' him either.

JBL's opening promo may have fired up the crowd, but I didn't like it all. I'm amazed I was able to resist the urge to change the channel.
It was no surprise that Super Crazy was able to defeat Nunzio and Kid Kash. The match was pretty good for the time it was given. Gregory Helms was only decent on commentary, but I'm just happy to see WWE doing something with the cruiserweights.
I didn't expect to see Kurt Angle back so soon. I think I'd rather have him stay off the show than see him in another match against Mark Henry.
The Gymini squash was pretty boring. They need to from a few new face tag teams so they can have some competitive matches.
Booker T continues to be great. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing King Booker.
Lashley versus Finlay was a solid mid-show match. Lashley continues to improve in the ring, as I only noticed one spot where he looked lost. His post-match promo was pretty weak though.
Wow, Jillian looks ridiculous. I liked this week's MNM / London & Kendrick segment. It's nice to see a storyline featuring two tag teams.
I can't believe they had Mark Henry squash Paul Burchill. It looked like Burchill was finally starting to get over these past few weeks.
So what's the point of these Tatanka videos?
Orlando Jordan claims to Nunzio that he saw Vito dressed in drag at a club. My gut instinct is that no good will come from this. Please prove me wrong, SmackDown!
The main event was just awful. I just can't believe they had the Great Khali squash and cleanly pin the World Heavyweight Champion.

This was exactly what I thought. A very bland and forgettable show.
I wonder why Simon Dean wasn't at ringside with his Gymni team.
They did allude to the Booker T-Batista confrontation which is Legit. And which Booker T was the one who the workers sided with, since Batista alledgly had a Hollywood attitiude to him. His promo was perhaps the best part of the night.
Bobby Lashley did have some intensity in his promo. But his lines very lame. typical wwe scriptwriters. <_<
He did fare better than MNM. God, did they suck on the mic.
Looks like this whole Vito thing is a spoof on the Sopranos. One of the mobsters there who's named Vito turned out to be gay, and fled to New Hampshire, where he can live free and not die. I bet next week, someone will say that they saw Vito at a construction site "hard at work."
JBL may be annoying at times, but he seems to be the biggest heel on both brands. He does know how to get a crowd against him.
Yeah, I think Kane will be Rey';s opponet next week since its May 19th and all.

Due to baseball, I had to wait an extra day to watch this. Finlay-Lashley didn't disappoint, but Rey-Khali angered me. Rey should not be jobbed out like that, even if he's going to win at the PPV. It makes the champion (and his championship) look bad if everyone's he's booked to face beats him with relative ease. I loved Tazz furthering the ECW angle by saying it's okay to say "wrestling" during Finlay-Lashley. The Tatanka promos haven't gotten much airtime, but I've enjoyed them. They're far more compelling than anything on Raw, and there's a ring of reality to them that nearly all of pro wrestling lacks.
I definately think it'll be funny next week, when someone says "Its may 19th" in their promo, and it most obviously is not may 19th in the arena.
I'd like to see a "Its May 16th" chant started, but it would probably get edited out.
