Hi all. Seeing a JL vs Avengers post got me thinking about the League facing off with Marvel's Mightiest Mutants. Now on the surface it would seem that JL would be a shoe in, I mean they've got some heavy hitters. But I see a way where the X-Men can win quite handily, but it all depends on J'on J'onnz.
Now I know JJ is telepathic, but what is his level of skill with this power? While he may have the latent ability, has he ever been trained on it? Because I think if you have Jean Grey or Prof X who have spent countless years training and refining their telepathic abilities, you'd have to be damn skilled to hang with them. Does JJ have that skill? Cause if not the Prof can take down JJ and most of the League himself, with the X-Men running a diversion.
Now I don't know much about ol' J'onn, so can someone enlighten me about his telepathic abilities and how he'd hold up to a trained telepath?

There was a big DC vs Marvel thread a month or so ago (that might have gotten closed cause tempers flared)
I think, but I'm not positive that it was assumed that Prof. X was a stronger Telepath..not sure on Jean Grey...her powers fluxuate almost as much as Superman's powers on S:TAS/JL
Marvel has alot more Telepaths than DC and Prof. X is the strongest...
from what I've seen, JJ doesn't have the power that Xavier does..

J'onn J'onzz might have an edge, however. I've read many science-fiction stories that speculate that an alien telepath would prove uncomfortable to a human being probed. Now, J'onn can counteract this by adapting his powers for humans (he's a shapeshifter so he can alter the shape of his brain), but in a battle situation he could concievably make his projected thoughts more alien and harmful to Jean and Professor X.

Doubtful. Xavier has probed quite a few alien minds before, and unless they truly are completely unlike anything in human comprehension, it doesn't cause a problem.
Now, if this was comic MM, than he'd be nigh invulnerable to direct attack by Xavier, but he'd be about the only one. In the cartoon, however, MM is good, but I don't think he's that good, especially since *all* he's done so far is locate an individual mind, hide somebody from psi-detection, and read a mind or two.

I don't read MM comics, how is he invulnerable to direct telepathic attack? I would think that Xavier could wipe the floor with any of 'em, being such a strong telepath, but how would Jean Grey fare. She's talented, but not quite up to the Prof's level.

Depends on Jean...if she's Pheonix...she can turn up the heat...telepathically though, not sure she stands up..

J'Onn's telepathic powers have grown to ridiculous extremes in recent years. Originally, all he could do was read minds. Then, in one of the JL titles, he used a plot-device power to neutralize Despero. Then... then, he started developing every psionic power ever. And in Morrison's JLA title, he began to show incredible extremes, such as telepathically linking with *every* person on the planet at the same time. He has planet-wide range on his telepathy, etc, etc, plus J'onn has vaguely-defined powers, which means that he typically shows us a new power every few adventures that we didn't know he had.
J'onn could well be a match for Professor X.
Also, don't discount Aquaman. He has discovered that he has vast psionic powers, too (for example, he shut down the minds of half a dozen super-powered enemies all at once), but he doesn't use them too much because if he abuses them, he turns into an evil, scaley monster.
While I don't think Aquaman would be a challenge for Prof X, he could probably stand up agains the lesser psionic characters in the X-Men, however.

OK this is just one of the things that gripes me about the way Jean is portrayed in certain medias so bear with me.
The "Pheonix Force" Jean Grey was a huge ultimate cosmic being who could probably have wiped the floor with the JL and the X-Men combined if she wanted. The regular Jean, who's code name is pheonix (most of the time, sometimes they just call her by her full name all the time like in the movie and cartoon and even in the comics today because of the influence the movie had which is lame because why would she be the only one without a code name [sorry about the rants there may be a few more ;) ]) is also extremely powerful. She definately stands up to it telepathically (although DC vs. Marvel stuff I think is open to interpretation). In the comics Jean is second ONLY to Prof. X. After him she is the most powerful telepath on Earth. She has all but perfected both her telepathy and her telekinesis and has a guhgillian tricks up her sleeve. As Prof. Xs #1 student she has learned to be just as much a force to be reckoned with as he. Ultimately my point is that Jean is often misrepresented in stuff like this because of how she is portrayed in cartoons and movies where she is usually shown as just beginning to develop her powers. But in a JL vs. X-Men fight where the X-men had both Jean and the Prof. it would be twice as much bad news for J'onn. Not that Im going to answer which team would win. Ultimately It would depend on who's on the X-men at the time cuz there've been a lot of them, but I can definately think of some teams of X-men where the JL would be in a lot of trouble.
