anyone notice that now a days we see John Stewards eyes mask white instead of normal looking? Do you think this is a side effect of prolonged usage of the ring or just animators lazyness?

It's just an eye infection. J'onn gave him a cream for that in the 'Lost epsiode' The Justice League Just Sort Of Wander Aimlessly Around Their WatchTower Bemoaning How Empty & Meaningless Their Life Is Without Their Plot Arcs that they were working on before the office janitor suggested that Cadmus arc would be slightly more interesting. I don't think he ever used the Martian ointment, much to the relief of the animators.

I kind of like the semi-eerie radiated effect. Would have been a novel idea for him to have developed eyebeams as an added touch.

It's intentional. They discussed it on one of the commentary/feature tracks on the S1 JL DVD.

KKI think they only addressed the green tint to his pupils, not the solid white eyes. We know the green coloring is a result of the ring's energy seeping into his own body, but the complete whitening is probably during periods of strenuous ring use. Glowing white eyes are commonly used in cartoons to express extreme energy or anger. I haven't seen this happen to GL, ever, so does anybody have some examples?

His eyes in JLU are a lighter, more neon green than in JL. Sometimes it's difficult to discern and appears that his entire eye is white.

yea there is a hint of light green in his eyes. Its normal when hes using the ring but in "AH" when he is talking to shayera after she tells him the condition of vixen, his eyes are white and hes not using the ring.

I never realized his eyes changed between actively using the ring and not. The only times I've ever noticed the color changing is from green to black when the ring is completely drained.

A good question:
We SAW Kyle Rayner in JLU. Kyle Rayner has had the ring alot longer and was described twice (to my recollection) as one of the 'premier' green laterns needed else where (yea, I know, theres bound to be some disagreement there, just going based on series).
That said, why did Kyle Rayner's eyes not glow like that?

AKyle Rayner has had the ring alot longer
No, he hasn't. John Stewart had been a Green Lantern for almost ten years when "Secret Origins" started -- he'd been patrolling another sector in deep space. Kyle had only been a Lantern for a year or two by that point.
Though that does raise the question of why other veteran Lanterns don't go through the same thing. Something specific about human physiology? Or perhaps John almost never took a break during his tenure, so the ring was active almost constantly -- therefore having a greater cumulative effect?
Who knows.

Can't something just look cool?

What do you mean by "normal" eyes? I remember his eyes being black in JL season 1 "The Savage Time" when his ring runs out of juice. Other than that, were they not always green -- whether he was using the ring or not?

But it doesn't look cool. It looks creepy and infected. When my dad's eyes were that way we took him to a doctor and she sent him to another doctor who in turn sent him to another doctor and that continued ad nauseum until he finally went blind.
The same thing could happen to poor John Stewart? And then what? Who will save the world? Who will be the Flash's gruff black partner? Who will be the Green Lantern of our sector? And who will read me the evening news? Who, I ask you, who?

That's not proof.
First of all, half of your "Normal" images are from instances where GL had lost his ring, or it ran out of juice -- hence, he had black eyes, just like most other African Americans. The ones where his eyes were green do appear to be a more distinct shade of green than those seen in the JLU pics -- but all of the JLU screenshots are TV-quality, whereas the JL ones are from DVD's. So of course the green will be more noticeable in the latter.
Bottom line: John's had green eyes since day one, and still does. Maybe they changed the hue a little bit when "Initiation" rolled around, but they're still green.

lol, his eyes have defently gotten lighter since "Initiation" , with the cable signal quality I get, you can barely make out the actual eye color and see more of the white than that. When ever I see him on tv these days, Im like damn your blind!!!!

Where was that stated? As I recall from Hearts and Minds (http://www.tv.com/justice-league-unlimited/hearts-and-minds-1/episode/184210/summary.html), it was stated specifically that Rayner was considered to be one of the greatest of the green laterns. Further in The Return (http://www.tv.com/justice-league-unlimited/the-return/episode/340418/summary.html) I believe it was stated that Kyle Rayner wanted to return to Earth and John Stewart wanted to get some deep space assignments for a while but the Latern Core wasn't willing to do that as they "needed their best in space".
I dont recall any episodes that stated John Stewart had his ring so much longer. The stuff I recall tends to indicate Kyle in DCAU had it longer. An orgin episode for John Stewart would have been nice :-|. We did get back story, but not an origin like we had for Batman, Superman, Wonderwomen, Marshian Manhunter and Flash (kinda).

The "ten years" thing was never stated explicitly on the show, but was mentioned in the press materials when the show premiered. It was also hinted at in "In Blackest Night" and "Only A Dream."
And I think you're misremembering "Hearts And Minds" and "The Return"; all Katma said about Kyle in the former was that he was "useless", and all that the Guardians said in the latter was that they weren't going to switch Kyle and John because of John's "personal problems".

Exactly. They lightened/brightened his eyes for JLU -- just like his costume was originally a more primary green and became a more bluish green by "Hearts and Minds" in JL season 2.
The "ten years" thing was never stated explicitly on the show, but was mentioned in the press materials when the show premiered. It TB, I remember in "Secret Origins" John saying he'd been with the GLC for 15 years at that point, which was 2001.

Um...hate to break it to you, but African Americans have the same variety of eye colors as white people do.
Brown may be more common, but they're not black.
