Why are bad words allowed on these message boards? I thought these boards were supposed to be safe for all ages, and yet people cuss! That sounds a bit contradicting to me.

If cursing were allowed, then it wouldn't be safe for all ages.
You answered your own question, though.

Yes, but there are *some* curse words streaming through the gaps, as well as references to.....*ahem*. You get the idea.
The board is starting to veer off from family-friendly to PG, possibly PG-13.

To quote the Rules:
These forums are intended for users of all ages. Please try to keep your language within a PG-rating. Adult language should be kept to a minimum, and a content warning (such as "PG-13") should placed in a thread title or within a post if any such language will be used. R-rated language is unacceptable. The moderators reserve the right to determine what language (and euphemisms) are inappropriate, and to remove the language from a post or to delete the post entirely. Further action may be taken at the discretion of the moderator. Remember, we are all intelligent people. There is always a way to get your point across without resorting to base language. Using such language only exposes a lack of vocabulary.
So, if you see a post that isn't within that limit...you can click on the "Report this post" button, and a friendly-neighborhood MOD will check it out.. :)

If there are words that are not being censored but should be, please let me know in a private message. And if you see them in a post, click on the "report this post" link to alert one of the moderators.

If there are curse words beyond PG-13, then the mods will swing into action. But we don't mind a few "damns" and "hells" around here.

The reason I joined these boards was because I thought you couldn't say any. I thought the moderators did't let one pass by. I guess I was wrong. I wish you had some place that was 'G'.

Well, we really don't live in a G world. :) These are some of the best mods on the web, and they do a great job. I am sounding like a suck up, but, it's true. Most posts are G.

Define "cussing." To some people "damn" and "hell" are really bad, but to others it's not bad enough, :D.

To paraphrase DG from a thread when this question came up before, If it's allowed on Nick At Nite, it's allowed here.

I dont mind a few "damn" and "hell's." You cant shelter yourself forever. I'd say 95% of the posts on this board though dont even use either of those two words.

um, i think these posts are fine. the ones that are offensive are taken care of quickly by the mods, so imo its an all ages board.
but i will admit there are some posts that have a bit more of a mature nature to them, but they are usually labeled pg-13 or adult content or something like that.
and in addition, most people dont live their lives by rated g standards, my point being it shows through from time to time, which is fine because imo humans arent made to act in a g manor. heck, i cursed more when i was a kid than i do now, so there you go.

Well, I can tell you that the following words are censored by the boards: ****, *****, ****, *****, *******, *****, *****, ****, ****, ******, ****, *****, ****, ********, ****, *******, ******, ******, **********, ********, *****, *******, *****, ******.
...and, like has been previously said by many, posts containing words like Hell and Damn, will always find a place in here in some way, shape, or form... but only because of how common they are in society...
...and if you ever see a questionable post, PLEASE report it and the mod team for that board will look into it =)

As you can see, there's a certain amount of disagreement about what constitutes "bad" words. It's really not feasible to outlaw "hell" and "damn." So many people don't think of them as profanity anymore that they pop up pretty frequently. If we tried to cut out all of them we'd spend a huge amount of time chasing after these words and explaining our reasons. So we give these "Nick at Nite" level words, as DG refers to them, a pass and save our efforts for the real hard core stuff when it crops up.
Like most compromises this leaves people on both sides unhappy. We've had to ban some people who insisted on using the heavy ammo. We're sorry if it disappoints you to see any language, but that's the decision we've made.

Why are we worrying here? The real problem is with Brian's over-use of Aquamans rump-shaking in his avatars. Kids come here! The don't need to see that! :p ;)
hehe, j/k...I love that Aquaman....*sigh*....
anyway. I've occasionally noticed some foul language use, but I haven't noticed anything major, or over-use of anything. The bad language around here tends to be few & far between...

Honestly, there's no option on the level of profanity that will please everyone. But keeping the "Nick at Nite" rule pleases the majority of posters, especially considering that everyone here is 12 and up.
