(I live again!)

I used to think I was the only one who remembered this show. But this recent Anime Jump article (http://www.animejump.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=90&page=1) rekindled my interest, and I've been on a bit of an MO kick of late, finding sites and even joining a group on Yahoo devoted to this Japanese/American take on the super robot genre.

Personally, I loved this show as a kid. The animation and art-work was top-notch, and I absolutely loved the opening theme song, which, IMO, is still one of the best ever. Also, Umbra has got to be the freakiest-looking main villain ever created!

So, thoughts and commentary? Favorite characters/episodes? Let your opinions be known on these champions of justice and truth who have courage that shines like the sun! (Man, was that ever corny... :D )

Scooby Doo meets Voltron.

That's the best way to describe this all-too-brief show. Animation was downright gorgeous though.

I remember bugging my parents as a little kid to let me watch it. I'd watch it through snowy reception and holding rabbit ears, which is a feat for a 4-year-old.

This was a (very entertaining) kids' show, to be sure, but like everyone said so far, the animation was amazing. It is quite probably one of, if not the best, technically-competent animated TV series of all time. Very unsurprising since it was not only animated in 1980s Japan, but by the superlative TMS!

One thing you'll notice, if you're a 1960s or 1970s teleivison watcher re: soundtrack is following vocies: Yogiu Bear's girlfirned Cindy Bear--Julie Bennett' Alexandra, aka Josie's rival, aka Sherry Alberoni (when was the last time since the sevneties that those last two did voices) and Space Ghost himself, Gary Owens!! (along with more modern actors and up-and-comers.)

This had robots forming one. Getting back to "up-and-comers", this was the firast IIRC new animation programming from short lived TMS animation studio, also "Galaxy High" and others, usually an animation for hire studio. When GH debuted in 1987 STARLOG mag had an anintrerview with Chris COlumbus ("Mrs Doubtfire","Harry potter') but little mention of TMS!

IIRC, Julie Bennett did the voice of Aunt May in the 90's Spider-man cartoon.

The Mighty Orbots was a good cartoon I wish it would have lasted longer.

As well as Jennifer Darling, another 80's Voice actress (TMNT's Irma, etc.), as well as Princess Ayeka for the Tenchi Muyo series.

The show also hosted the talents of none other than Don Messkic(sp?), the voice of Scooby-Doo.

It's Don Messick & he voiced Crunch, the Orbot who loved to eat anything, even eating the show (LOL). Gary Owens was the narrator while Barry Gordon was Rob Simmons. Barry's better known as the Nestle Quik Bunny.

I too miss that show, but ABC placed it in a rotten time slot! Sure, the Orbots can defeat the forces of evil, but they couldn't hold off the soft cartoons Muppet Babies (CBS) & The Smurfs (NBC).
