View Full Version : Webslinging in Spider-Man cartoons

We've had scenes with Spider-Man webslinging from what seemd like nothing. He'd be swinging across the skyline and it looks like his webbing wasn't attached to anything. Did this ever bother anyone? Should animators try to make sure that when Spider-Man is webslinging the webbing is actually attached to a building or something and not just air as it seemed like at times?

I guess Iīm not looking details from cartoons (I still havenīt found a mistake made in Spiderman, season 5, episode 57 or 58, Six Forgotten Warriors Part 4 or Part 5)

it bugged me alot in the old 60s cartoons but i understood why. The 90's version what bugged me more was the constant reuse of scenes.

Yeah, those corner cuts always urk me. The main reason why is because people sell the show short because of them. Oh the amount of them I could name.
Reused and recycled cells is okay if they're being used intuitively. For example, if you need Spiderman to web around a building (websling like normal followed by making two left turns or something like that) and we already have that animation, that could potentially be forgiveable if it's used again.
But the stuff you look at and you're like, "no one is gonna buy that" is something no one is going to buy. Like using a Lizard shot even though you can see the NYC sewers in the background, during a scene where the Lizard isn't IN the sewers. lol.
It sucks, but I would imagine at least SOME of it had to be done.
I never really minded the laws of physics part, though. I could see explanations for most of them, that's why. Like if I see him swinging from a line whose origin is straight upward, there must logically be something there like a flag pole.
I disliked the recycled stuff more than the bad physics stuff.

The one i rmember the most was an explosion bit that they used all the time. Concrete would fall( colored blue), with smoke and a flash...now this didn't work when one, the building wasn't blue nor made of concrete, it could very will have been wood and i gurantee that bit wouldve been recycled.

I can match that. In season 2 "The Mutant Agenda" the Hobgoblin did a slick little move where he tossed some pumpkin bombs up on an angle at the ceiling to open himself a little skylight for escaping purposes.
Yes, this was reused later, but that's not what I'm matching. What I'm matching is how later in the series (it'd take me a while to remember) an explosion happened like on a floor of some kind, and yet they used THAT recycled animation. lol. :p
So instead of a floor and bombs falling on it, if you just watch closely enough, it's actually mobs going up at a ceiling.

I think I remember that Hobgoblin bit:p , but it is kind of sad that they didn't use at least one more explosion bit, i mean it couldn't of been to hard. I remember in Sting of the Scorpion in the beginning theres nothing but reused bits in that one scene where he stops the burglars( did it ever occur to anyone that those theives were really packin heat, i mean the guy had a rocket launcher and spidey just sorta let the rocket fly off to wherever ).
