It's that time again! The time to do a rundown on all the latest Naruto toys, figures, and accessories from Mattel! So without further ado, here's our first entry:

Well, he looks unusually mean for Naruto, but the details look pretty good.

The downside. I dont like Naruto's facial expression. It's too "GI Joe" Ish. They should bring down the extream look a tad notch.

Y'know, at first glance, I thought Naruto had Super Saiyan hair! I'm not kidding! The spikes in the hair kinda make it look like that! As for puncturing kids skins, it's the kunai they should be more worried about than the hair. :rolleyes2

If you take a look at the anime, especially some of the earlier episodes, you see that the collar IS oversized.

I wonder if they have their personal emblems on the back? Naruto's 'uzumaki' spiral and the Uchiha clan emblem for Sasuke?

IIRC, the creators were shameless fans of Dragonball Z--hence Naruto having blond spiky hair and wearing a baggy orange outfit. And, later in the series, he does that kinda powering up thing too, y'know...

As far as Naruto looking a little too mean, I dunno--to me, he seems pissed off actually most of the time (usually at Sasuke, though).

I'm sure they'll release a variant figure or simply another figure with Naruto smiling or looking goofy...

Hey now Sasuke's expression and facial fetures is more like the Sasuke in the show.

The donside, and unforntunetly I believe cant be easily fixed, is that the doll itself is unexciting in color and detail. Naruto may have an off expression but his body design makes him an apealing character to buy. Sasuke's design is well...meh. I hope they add more detail that could comply with massprodcution.

But on the other hand he was drawn that way but I couldnt imagine him being so plain in model form.

5" Training Deluxe Action Figure Hyuuga
Here we have our first entry into the 5" figure line starting with Hyuuga, who is busy doing target practice with the model of the nervous human anatomy (that he secretly swiped from the doctor's office).

No with the battle technique of the Hyuuga clan. The Hyuugas all have the Byakuugan pupil that allows them to see, among other things, the Chakra system. By attacking certain points on the body they can stop the flow of Chakra through their opponent's body, rendering them powerless and defenseless. It's a very effective style. It's also similar to pressure points in that it can cause damage to organs too I believe. Also they don't need weapons, just their fingers.

I do hope they make Sakura an' the girls toys! For gods sake it's freakin Mattel if they could make Barbies then they could make Sakura....Hey they should create a seperate line like that Sakura an' the girls. :)

(Wasnt a Babie kid BTW. My mom didnt like them because she thought it was prejudiced/sexist so she never bought them. I did get two Teen Babies for free from a friends house since she had a bunch. I cut the hair on one of them.)

But putting up each figure once a day helps garner discussion emphasizing opinion based on the particular figure being showcased. In other words, it keeps this thread moving! Putting up all the figures in at once will garner some discussion on the figures as a whole but will cut the discussion short on individual models. So, it's better to put one figure or accessory up a day.

I've seen the headbands at my local Hot Topic, in all their cloth-with-a-metal-plate-on-it glory. Very groovy. I'm gonna get one this weeekend. ^^

In Japan, yes. You get them for all the clans IIRC. I've seen them imported in the states in various stores and at con as well.

I'd have to say that these action figures look pretty good. It's a shame Mattel did a terrible job on the One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh! action figures but these actually look cool. I probably wouldn't get the costume toys, though.

Allow me to disagree and say that looks a lot like the 20 buck head bands I've seen out of Japan, except that the Japanese headbands use black paint/lacquer to emphasize the tribe symbol.

Besides, in Japan, the cheap end of the Naruto accessories are all plastic.

If you're looking for the quality headbands, you can literally find any of them (Multiple colors, though mostly blue and black, every village, with or without the gash running across the symbol) on ebay for $10.00 or less. Find one of the Hong Kong sellers who has a $0.01 price and a $9.00 shipping rate and take your pick. I did a search for mist and headband, for instance, since I wanted a Zabuza one.

jay, I know where you're going with this. The thing is, Mattel is more interested in cost cutting than quality control when it comes to their toylines. They're not catering to the hardcore fanbase, just to the young'uns who want a simple Naruto toy, even if it does look ridiculous.

Well, from looking at the Japanese figure it looks better, but it doesn't look like it has any articulation. The American figures may not look as good, but they appear to be more poseable. You may not like the way the joints look, but without the joints you wouldn't be able to pose the figure at all.

Interestingly, though Mattel may putting out their own leaf ninja metal head bands, Viz has already bought in under the Naruto merch line a bunch of headbands from the various tribes and even with the special color variation some characters have. Reasonably priced (10-15 IIRC,) too, and they look great. In fact, I wonder if they are the same thing as depicted in that image actually. Only seen them at the local anime store, but I have a feeling all the speciality retailers will be getting them in.

Anyway, I just that was an interesting note - they've already seized on this for the niche market, so they are probably replicating the Japanese model and making a lot of different versions for different demographics.
