Having seen some AMVs (Anime Music Videos) with scenes of the show Trigun, And visited a few fansites, I have decided that it would be an interesting show to watch.
Several months ago, I read, (In the toonami digital archive I believe,) that CN had previously passed on Trigun as it was too violent.
Now that CN has Adult Swim, has anyone heard if CN is planning on picking up the series?
If not, what are they going to run after Cowboy Bebop?

No.
I have just heard that most of the blood edits in Cowboy Bebop were made back when the show was planned for Toonami.
Williams Street kept some of them in because some of them were too costly to just throw away, especially in The Real Folk Blues.
If Trigun comes, it will be bloody. Yes. It will be bloody.

Well thats good to hear, atleast for future additions to the block. Can't say it sounds good for CB since those ridiculous edits won't be removed in future airings :(
I've heard Trigun was considered a teen show in Japan. Although I've only seen a few episodes, I question if the content would be mature enough for an adult block.

Howabout this. Ranma 1/2 and Dragon Ball were considered KIDS SHOWS in Japan. But here both of them airing unedited would surely pull a TV-MA rating.
It's cultural gap.
I realize that, but consider this -- would unedited DB fly on Adult Swim? How about unedited Sailor Moon? Both are clearly kids' shows, so most adult non-otaku viewers would just say, "What's this crap?" and turn it off. Would the same (if to a slightly lesser extent) happen with Trigun no matter how small the edits?

DbZ wouldn't get a TV-MA rating uncut. I've seen it. Yes, there's gratuitous violence, and Raditz's potty mouth, but really, it isn't that bad. TV-14 would be my guess, If they were so anally retentive about the words 'Shiznit' and 'Richard head' Then they might give it a TV-MA rating, but it wouldn't really be deserved.
Or somethin like that.

People have a bad tendency to automatically assume unedited DBZ is this holy grail of violence and language. In actuality, most of the profanity was added by fansubbers and most of the edits in the american version are idiotic ones like taking out Gohan's tears, not blood. Look beyond any violence in DB/DBZ and you'll notice that its main target is 10 year olds.

Don't forget Evangalion, though getting it on Adult Swim might be slightly impossible, and about the religious references in the series, what is so controverisal about them anyway that is keeping the series off Adult Swim?

Whats keeping the show off TV is that Gainax refuses to let the show air unless unedited. CN won't let the nude Rei clones pass uncensored, so no Eva.
Actually, I believe (Matt, check me) Sean Akins said recently in response to a question about Evangelion on CN, "Maybe someday at midnight." So it ain't as impossible as everyone thinks.

I was just talking about Dragon Ball. Not Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball contains a plethora of potty jokes and pointless nudity. How many times do we see Goku's genitalia? I've lost count.
If it's one thing I can't stand, it's how one generalizes the series' as "Dragon Ball Z" when Dragon Ball came first.

Yes, it is. Sean is insane in the membrane.
Only when Adult Swim covers those midnights would there EVER be a chance.

I own all 8 dvd's and many other animes... Trigun is my fav show EVER (*mostly because of Legato Bluesummers :D ). I doubt they'll keep it off the air because of violence. There are soemtimes that may be edited though. I am sure that the show won't be televised on CN because it has a deep and dramatic story that I'm not sure CN would brign to their audiences. (look at the anime so far, no offense but even cowboy beebop has a very simple storyline).
Ummm...
What?
I don't know what you mean by "deep," but if CB isn't dramatic and complex, what is? Come on, noir and neo-noir cinmeatography, symbolic foreshadowing, long-term and episodic emotional arcs, existential themes, psychologically complex and well-rounded characters...
Have you actually *watched* the show or are you just saying that because you've only seen Mushroom Samba?
"Yes, it is. Sean is insane in the membrane."
:) Indeed. But has his insanity ever lead us astray?

I Think Trigun could run on Adult Swim uncut. The only thing that I see that would need to be edited is when a character yells "Sh*t!", but everything else seems to be ok to me.
Of course I only have the first 5 volumes so I don't know what happens in the remaining 3. So if something super-adult happens it must be in volumes 6-8.

Made a mistake.
The edits were decided BY Toonami, not FOR Toonami.
As in, the people that did the edits usually do the edits for Toonami. So even still, that was probably why they editted what they editted.
I hope Williams Street picks better editors for the next anime. Or at least takes the success of the block and the larger percentage of adult viewers into consideration.

ok ok ok, well heres my suggestion if we are looking for new animes after beebop. The Sword of Berserk, its actually not out in th US yet, but I think tis coming in march, it is a really cool show but its so violent that I don't think it would EVER be shown on CN, its like spawn but meets cowboy beebop or...well its hard to expalin its just good :)

No way it aint too violent. CB and Trigun are along the same lines in violence (from the 2 episodes and 3 AMV's i've seen). The worst thing that will happen is that they edit a little blood here and there and change some words. I noticed in cowboy bebop they changed just about every single Sh*t to d*mn, so that is a probable if Trigun comes to Adult Swim. As for Dragonball being a kids show in japan. All ive got to say is that somewhere along the lines, america said "the naked body must not be seen by the public" and it was flushed away, given 'R' ratings ('M' in video games) and edited on television. In most cultures tho, the human body is embraced, not hidden away.

"Too violent for Adult Swim " I pray for the day when we wont have to worry about that.

I heard that toonami wanted Evangalion real bad but they sold it to a diffrent network for more money.

That would have to be one risque network...the creators will not let the show go censored, so I doubt any network to date's picked it up yet.

In terms of editing, there's more of a problem with language than violence in Trigun. I mean, there is a lot of gunplay and such, but most of it's bloodless.

On south park they had the word sh*t said a couple hundread times in one episode i think that we will hopefully soon be able to bend the barrier a lil bit more. so that these words wont have to be edited out like we got damn and bit*h so maybe we can get some more what do you say?
