Not that it really belongs here or anything, but Wendy's founder Dave Thomas died today at 69 years of age. Kind of a shock to me really, both that he died and that he was only that old, I've seen him in those commercials forever. RIP, Mr. Thomas...

Wha --? I just watched a commercial with him last night. I hope they address this in the commercials. I can't believe he was only 69. He'll be missed for sure.

Yeah, he was one of the last big business guys that's likable. He's done a lot of NASCAR related commercials around here in the past few years. A great loss, for sure...

Dave Thomas was one of those rarities in business: a lovable CEO. But more than that, I think that Mr. Thomas would prefer to be remembered as a leading advocate for adoptions, being an orphan himself. Fare thee well, Dave... :(

Mr. Thomas, your Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers now account for 10% of my body mass. May you rest in piece...

They are still keeping the details of his death secret, at least of this morning on the news. Too many triple cheeseburgers, Dave?

He died of liver cancer.
You know, I jokingly said to my sister a day ago that if I were to be reincarnated, I would want to be reincarnated as Dave Thomas...
I want to be calm, reassuring, a bit boring, and RICH! Filthy rich!

well, being rich and well liked is a good thing to aspire for. Did the guy have any enemies? I'd have to say I think he lived a really great life.

Well, I'm not a calm guy by nature, so it'd have to be in my next life that I can attain the level of Zen Master that Dave did.

Not only will I dedicate my next Wendy's bacon cheeseburger to his memory, but I'll also toast his life with a frosty.

I'm gonna miss Dave Thomas. I dont eat at Wendy's often, usually because I dont see many of them, but he seemed so likable. He looked perfectly healthy on those commercials. It's a shame.

I would like to commend Dave. He was a very nice person, having set up that adoption program. That alone would have earned him my thanks, but he was a very kind person in real life I hear. He will be sorely missed.
RIP, Dave. You were a good guy. :(

He will be missed.
Um...so how are they going to do those Wendy's ads now? I hope that they don't animate him like KFC does!

The poor guy had a triple by pass about 4 years ago, and I had heard about that on the news. I remember too, cause it was the topic of discussion with my then at the time friends. When I first heard about his death, I thought it would be from a heart attack. Very sad. RIP Dave Thomas.

I heard about it today on the school shuttle this morning. It was quite a shock, and I wasn't sure I heard it right at first.

Do you think they could get Wendy herself to step into her father's shoes for future spots? She is a real lass, right? :o

It's nothing to be embarassed about, Belch, I've heard some people make the same suggestion and I think that it could be a good idea. Unless she currently looks radically different from the "Wendy's" picture. I don't think that a fat, gap-toothed, pig-tailed red-head would go over well. :D

I heard about it this morning on the radio. Recently MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch had him fight on the show against the Colonel. In the end Dave won. It was only shown once. I guess it'll never be seen again. Wendys always had the best food. I loved the bacon swiss burgers and the bacon mushroom melt.....mmmmmm......
RIP Dave Thomas

Indeed, Wendy is involved in the company. I remember once Dave Thomas was supposed to appear at some Little Rock function, but he couldn't make it. So, instead, we got Wendy, which was a nice surprise.

You guys seen the Wendy's commercials the past few days? The ending to most of them usually has Dave smiling and saying something, now I've seen a couple and they've got him in with a bunch of other pictures, waving in the bottom right corner of the screen... could they have made a change so quickly?...

Well, I've heard about plans to edit Dave out, and if they're showing the commercials again, I guess they've done it.
They plan on doing more commercials in the same vein, but the Dave commercials won't be on anymore.
I'll probably pay my respects later this week with a nice tall Frosty.

There is not too many Wendy's in my area, there is only 2 I know of compaired to 6 Burger King locations within biking distance of my house.
I do always stop into the Wendy's/Tom Hortons at service stations and have a bite, some coffee and maybe some pastry.
