My cable's on screen guide shows Dungeons & Dragons Episode 2, "Eye of the Beholder", being aired tonight at 7 pm EDT on Toon Disney. Can anyone confirm that it airs or that Episode 1, "The Night of No Tomorrow", was shown at the same time last week?
If Disney has started showing D & D, kudos for them! Hopefully we'll see some other shows soon (SatAm Sonic, in particular). [Mr MetroCon votes for Mighty Orbots!]
There is hope!

I watched it yesterday, too. I was glad to see this new addition to JETIX. It looks like they will be showing it weekends at 7pm EST.

Yes, Dungeons & Dragons will be airing every Saturday on Jetix on Toon Disney. It replaces teh Saturday showing of Beyblade. this change was actually announced about 1 1/2 months ago, but I guess it was never posted here at Toon Zone. I've found that the most accurate guide for Jetix programming is probably this one: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/prstuff/jetix.html

It's on Saturday AND Sunday but you have to catch it at 7:00, it doesn't get an overnight replay.

Prefer it be shown at night, but hey.

Is this a new show or an old show brought to Toon Dis?
<edit> Gee that is an old show.

This actually looks and sounds better than what I usually think of when I think of 80's toons

LATE night. When the people who would actually care(aka us older folks) will be up and available to watch it.

My big sister was thrilled when she saw this show again. She sat down with me and watched it and sneered at Eric (affectionately). It isn't a bad show, taking into consideration the crudeness of the animation. The characters all have real personality from what I can see. I kind of wish that unicorn would shut up though...

Despite the limited animation, this was a really great show for the time it was shown (1983-1987?). There are a number of episodes that are just plain awesome! I hope they keep it on long enough to show these great eps.
Stating the obvious, it appears they show a new episode each Sunday and repeat it the following Saturday..hmmmm...kinda whack but....at least it's on...

Short answer: no. There WAS an unproduced "final episode" where they dealt with Venger once and for all and had the CHANCE to go home if they wished. The episode ended without revealing their choice, and was designed to springboard into a second "series" or story arc that could either have had NEW characters the originals, or a mix of the two.
What I can't figure out is why the heck Disney DVD won't release the show on disc for Region 1. Region 2 has had it since approx. this time last year.
Then again, since it isn't a Disney show, and Disney DVD has a bad habit of favoring Disney properties, maybe it's not so hard to figure...

I saw the cartoon, and unfortunately it looks very dated. Not so much by the costumes, but by the big 80's hair of the characters. Its a great series though. I was never into the Dungeons and Dragons game and really don't have an understanding of what a Dungeon Master is, but the series had some goofy Saturday morning personalities and lots of cool weaponery.

That figues. Lots of 80`s shows never get true endings. But was there a ep where one of them did make it home but choose to go back because he could not stand the thought of leaving his friends behind? I think it was eric.

Well, it was final in the sense that it was the last story written for the show, but what I've read from the creatives was that they expected to be picked up for another season, thus the cliffhanger/sequel opening possibility.

The cartoon had about as much in common with the game as the Conan cartoons did with the original short stories. :)

Looks as though Disney has other plans for the spot:
Sunday May 21's showing of the "Servant of Evil" episode will be the last one.
The May 27-28 weekend has marathons pre-empting D&D and then June 3 marks the premiere of "Oban Star-Racers."

... IMO, it was a top notch show for the time, and had well-above-average animation compared to most other stuff, especially from the near-ubiquitous Hanna-barbera and ruby-spears stuff of the time.. The show originally aired on CBS, so for what it's worth, "Uni" was probably a by-product of network input..
:D
good to see that it'll eventually be on dvd.. I hope they have some interviews with cast members.. Donny "ralph" Most! Adam Rich! but they probably won't get Willie Aames; he's been a born-again Christian for some years now, and probably doesn't want to associate with D&D's 'occult-affiliated' themes anymore..

SEMI-FALSE ALARM: D&D looks like it'll still be on Sunday nights.
I didn't realize that D&D was back on the air until I saw it in my cable company's online guide Saturday night. When I watched Sunday's episode, I noticed that the OP & ED credit music had been changed. Anyone want to speculate on why the music would be changed? The music played during the episode title intro was the same as it always was. They didn't change that.
By the way, how did this CBS show end up on Toon Disney?
It was a trip down memory lane to watch an episode of my favorite cartoon while I was in college. It made me feel young again.

The changed OP & ED music was first used when FOX Kids showed it a few years ago in the afternoon. I wish they returned the original OP/ED, but...
Disney has held the rights for a little while..probably happened at the same time they acquired the old Family Channel (now ABC Family).

Ah, I see. I missed D&D's Fox Kids phase. Yeah, that would explain how Disney got it then. I don't mind the new music; I kind of like it. I was just very surprised to hear it since I knew the original music forwards and backwards.

Hmm, well there was one episode, "Beauty and the Bogbeast" where they made it home, but Eric was turned into a Bogbeast, and thus had to return to the Realm to find a cure, and so the others went back as well to join him, as they didn't want to leave their friend behind...
And there was another episoside where they ALL made it home, "The Box", but Venger followed them through and started destroying the Earth, so they chose to lead him back to the Realm.
I suspect you're thinking of the first one, "Beauty and the Bogbeast".
Yes, I do indeed have this series memorized. :)

Has Willie, commented on it again or is his feelings for the show, speculation?
Anyway, I to am a Christian, yet still enjoy the show.

I think the new music is very good. It's got a definite "fantasy adventure" vibe to it. The old intro was mainly just the kids and Dungeon Master talking. Pretty good for nostalgia, but it doesn't have that same adventurous vibe the new music does.
Anyway, this is a good cartoon. I've currently got it set to record on my DVR whenever it comes on. Sometimes I wish we knew more about these kids and where they came from. Diana, for example, just melts into the background sometimes. Then again, this is a cartoon from the '80s. They generally jumped straight to the action.
