Can someone please explain why the majority of anime is 100 times better than what appear to be western animation styles such as the 90's version of say The incredible Hulk or Spiderman?
This got me thinking...how awesome a Marvel show could be if the action was done right....for example to anyone here who has seen Final Fantasy 7:Advent Children should understand what i mean when i talk about the fast passed fight sequences they have. This would make the cartoons far more appealing to a wider audience i think.
Gimme your thoughts ^_^

So, by "Western animation" you mean "American TV animation", right?

Not all of it does. Marvel shows in the 90s just got the short end of pretty much every stick.

The majority? The majority of anime made in Japan has horrible animation. The stuff that gets imported over here is usually the high-budget cream-of-the-crop.

Im not very knowledgable of Marvel Animation, but werent they animated in Japan? (Like most 90's action cartoons)

You realize Advent Children is a movie, right? And not anime? I could turn that around and say all anime is horrible because it doesn't have animation on the level of Pixar's The Incredibles or a Disney film.

Like Mr.Hell said, most anime has horrible to mediorce animation. The only anime I know of with good animation are Studio Ghibli titles, mainly because their budget is much higher. The fight scenes you describe (fast paced fighting) are more found in Western animation than Japanese animation, just because the budget for Western cartoons is higher. I haven't seen the Fox Spiderman series in ages, but if it had horrible animation like you say, it's one of the exceptions, not the rules. Marvel's TV animaion has never been the cream of the crop.

Ultimate Avengers, however, is very slick and stylish. I can see DTVs being a great way for them to do animation.

Well, technically it is. It's CGI anime.

Well, technically it is. It's CGI anime. I've seen lots of debates over that subject  I guess it depends on what you consider anime.

Well yeah, that's true. Some people consider anime a style, regardless of where it's from. For instance, most people dont really consider shows like "Big O" anime becuase it has an extremely western-influenced look and feel.

It's not a rule. In fact I diagree completely with the idea. Teen Titans are not anime but western trying to be anime am I wrong? Then the same goes for the new FF show and it doesn't look better for me than the scene of Rogue flying with the powers of Cyclops blah...

I think this applies to the actual designs of the characters. Plenty of cartoons are animated overseas if I recall correctly but I'm not very knowledgable in that area. Maybe if Marvel had an anime-influenced show like Teen Titans for one of their upcoming shows that could work. We still haven't seen the designs for the new X-Men or Iron Man cartoon.

I don't like Teen Titans, but I wouldn't say it's trying to be anime. Teen Titans just borrowed some of those visual gags and exaggerated facial expressions found in anime, like how anime borrowed from American cartoons like Disney. Pass those, it's your basic American super hero show.

There's more to a show then just fast paced action sequences. The DCAU shows that( at least the Timmverse as I have never seen The Batman ). A lot of anime that does have fast paced action, at least from what Ive seen, has some poor story telling(DBZ,DBGT ). The Anime that makes the action secondary have some nice story telling yet can also be very suspensful( Ghost in the Shell, so far Full Metal Alchemist ). However sometimes a good action beat does help, I mean .Hacksign was one of the worst shows Ive ever seen, and one reason was that they never did anything in fight terms, and when they did it was painfully bad. Witch Hunter was pretty slow but had some nice effects going at least. So really it all depends if you want, if you want all ation go watch some high budget anime, but thats not going to make a good show automatically.
