As the topic asks, which of these desserts do you like the best?
Out of those choices, I'm voting for pie.
With the exception of Pepperidge Farm's coconut cake, I don't really like cake all that much.
When it comes to pies though, that's a different story.
My favorite pies are apple, pumpkin (Especially with whipped cream), and peach cobbler (I think cobbler counts as a pie).
Unlike cakes, pies also can be made into tasty meat treats like chicken pot pie.

Definitely cake for me. I don't much care for pie.

Pie... not-so good. Aside from pudding pie (especially pistachio!), Oreo pie, and cheesecake; I'm not big on pie. I like pie filling, but the crust often draws me away. =\
I adore a yummy cake though. My favorite type of cake is German Chocolate. That is just too fabulous of a cake, if done right. Favorite frosting type is that whipped white stuff. The best canned frosting, bar none. I could eat the whole tub. =d
And ooh, ooh, whipped cream as frosting!! *drools* One of my surrogate uncles found this one bakery who made cakes with that frosting and at nearly every cake-eating event (and just times when cake seemed yummy.) my family had one of those. I haven't had a slice in years; I should hint at getting one to my dad. He'll never turn down a dessert; it's a family trait. *laughs*
I also like pudding as frosting. My birthday cake last year was actually a white cake with chocolate pudding as frosting. So yummy! I just can't deal with the super-duper sweet frosting, and I don't dig yellow cake. Aside from that, nearly anything's game.

Hm, my answer would have to be......pie!
I just LOVE cherry pie! One night, I consumed an entire cherry pie!
A question: Is cheesecake a pie or a cake? Or neither?

I'm frankly surprised cake is winning. Go cake!

YOu should have an option that says both because it depends on the flavor for me. If there is Chocolate Silk Pie around then I'll be on it in a heartbeat because that stuff is so good.
If there was cake and pie in the room and there was a vanilla chocolate cake or those confetti cakes but no Chocolate Silk pie then I would go after the cake.
So Pie and Cake are both good, but it depends on what kind it is, for me any way.

Cake, though I've never eaten pie.

I'm partial to neither. I like cakes and pies that aren't too sweet, and I discover many bakers oversweeten both of them.

Do we eat birthday pie? I didn't think so.
P.S.: While I am sure there are exceptions, I was speaking mostly of the general public.

Aw man, the cake is creaming the pie! :crying:

From what I heard, I think people tend to consider cheesecake as a pie.

I couldn't choose, pecan pie or confection cake (with the little flowers and swirls) Cherry pie or chocolate cake, keylime pie or pinacolada cake
:p now mincemeat is just plain bad and I can't think of a cake I hate so I guess cake wins

I hate pie. I could just never eat them for whatever reason: apple, pumpkin, pecan, etc. I find them all disgusting.
But cake. Man, I could eat an entire cake if nobody stopped me. I have my mom buy a chocolate bundt cake about every two weeks just so I can snack it on for a few days. :D

You're asking me to choose between my beloved Entenmann's fudge cake and cherry pie? :ack:
It simply cannot be done. That's like asking someone who their favorite child is.

Cake, though I've never eaten pie. Then what the hell are you doing online and not rectifying this right now?!? Get out there and eat some pie, fool! Apple, chocolate, peach, I don't care, but go out there and consume yourself some pie. Otherwise you're just not living. I respect the man who chooses not to drink, but you really shouldn't deprive yourself of the goodness that is pie. That's just wrong.
Anyhow, despite the above rant, I'd probably have to go with cake. I love pie, but there's few varieties I'm really crazy about, whereas there's a seemingly infinite number of cakes I enjoy. I've found this is especially true since I've started raiding the cakes aisle at Whole Foods.
I'm particularly fond of carrot cake and cheesecake. I was eating at an upscale pizzeria the other week and the waitress gave me a piece of cheesecake "on the house" because she said it looked like I needed it, whatever that means. It was probably the best cake I've ever eaten.

<anal-retentive grammar nazi> Shouldn't the title be "which do you like better", since we're only comparing two items? </anal-retentive grammar nazi> :p
Personally? I like cake better, especially yellow sheet cakes and ice cream cakes. Mmm...

I'll take whatever I can get.
But I find I eat more cakes then pies.
If I get to make a dessert, I usually go with a cake.
My pie crusts need a little work.
But then my cake frosting technique is rather messy. Not that I really care. Just put it next to a scoop of icecream and commence to devouring.
I adore a yummy cake though. My favorite type of cake is German Chocolate. That is just too fabulous of a cake, if done right. Favorite frosting type is that whipped white stuff. The best canned frosting, bar none. I could eat the whole tub. =d

What do you know of ganache?
It's the most addictive, versatile concoction known to desserts.
A mixture of cream, sugar, butter and chocolaty chocolate that sits at the perfect melting point that the same batch can easily be used as a sauce, a dip, decorating, the centers of truffles, and yes, as an icing for cakes!
Fudgy, yet smoother, lighter, and easier to make then fudge, it's velvety and melts in your mouth better then most frostings.
Temptation to make a batch even at this hour....

Even the name is fun "Ganache."

Cheesecake is its own category, it's neither cake nor pie. It's cheese for crying out loud.

Personally I like Cake much better. There's not many pies out there that I really like, other than peach, apple, or oreo. I can enjoy more varities of cake out there and then there's the frosting...tasty...ice cream cakes are another plus...:p

I've always liked cake better. I enjoy chocolate, ice cream, strawberry and the frosting. Mmm, yeah... :D
Cake takes cake on this one. Wait that didn't sound right... Oh well.

Pie is the best. Warm, freshly baked apple pie.:)
