Like the rest of their shows, Timm said that there is no exact date for the show. Although he does say it takes place 3 - 5 years after the events in Legacy. The time frame is left up to the viewer.

timm say that JL is not in the same world as BTAS and STAS.

Timm said that is is in the same world as BTAS and STAS. Some of the continuity may not match up, but he says it is the same universe. Which is why he does plan to deal with STAS's "Legacy" eventually.

"The present." Getting any more specific than that will only make your head hurt.

Call me an idiot... what were the events of Legacy?

YOU IDIOT!! ;) lol

In Legacy, Darkseid kidnapped Supes, brainwashed him, and sent him at the head of an invasion of Earth. He was captured just after he fought off the brainwashing, and imprisoned ( along with Supergirl ) by the obligatory distrusting general ( with a little help from Luthor ). He escapes just before execution ( /w help from Lois ), but Kara is badly injured in the process. Superman then used the Mother Box left by Orion to go to Apokalips. At this point, the quote from Kingdom Come, "A Rage that would make Satan himself Shudder," is entirely applicable. Supes proceeds to lay waste to hoards of Parademons, tears through Granny Goodness and the Female Furies like anonymous Stormtroopers, and then dukes it out with Darkseid himself!! In what is possibly the most spectacular and intense battle in cartoon history ( I [explentive deleted] you not ), Superman eventually defeats Darkseid, and casts him down amongst his own people, to "do with him as you please." What they please, in this case, is to carry him off and care for his wounds. As he is carried away, Darkseid leaves Superman with these words: "I am many things, Kal-El, but here, I am God." Superman is stopped from pursuit by a recovering Supergirl, who gets him to abandon the unwinnable fight, and return to Earth. . . and Earth that no longer trusts Superman. As the episode closes, with Superman and Lois looking out on the sunset, Superman is faced with the task of re-earning the peoples trust, "One person at a time."

Que for next season. . . only a next season didn't come. Too bad.

the fact that another season of STAS wasnt made may be one of the great animation tragedies of our times

I agree. There was so much room for interesting character development!!

I know that we were told to expect some continuity glitches in JL regarding past history established in BTAS, STAS and BB, but there really haven't been any yet, right? Some things have been sort of "ignored", like the events of "Legacy" and the whole Kyle Rayner thing, but nothing from any of the previous series has been outright shot down.

And from some of his past interviews, it seems as though Bruce Timm would like to address the "Legacy" storyline, and he even seems like he's open to suggestions on the Kyle Rayner issue. There's no guarantee those questions will ever get answered, but for now they are still just questions.

While some continuity glitches are currently being ignored, Timm doe splan to address them. Timm is currently trying (and accepting any ideas) from fans who think they can figur eout the Kyle Rayner/John Stewart problem. They also haven't ignored LEGACY, but have yet to addressed it. They planned to hint on it int he premiere episode, but had to put it aside. He does plan to bring it up whenever Darkseid pops his head up. I think that is gonna be very, very interesting...

thats cool that timm is trying to solve the kyle/john problem. dg, where'd you hear that and where'd you hear that he was accepting fan ideas, cause didnt he originally say he was just pretending "in brightest day" never happened?

anyway, i think that timm should definately address the issues of the previous series, not just touch on them. my only problem is if indeed it does take place 3 years after legacy, then robin would be too old at jl time for the rotj flashback to take place. hmmmm, more problems. peace.

what would be VERY cool of Timm is to hold a contest here on the forums for the ABSOLUTE best explanation of In Brightest Day and how it fits into the continuity--

the prize:
How about a Timm original of a JLer (or maybe Supergirl!) of your choice?

or even being credited at the end of an episode perhaps? that would make my day

man i would spend some time coming up with something for him for either of those!

In the interview DG conducted with him, he said in passing that he was receptive to any ideas people might have to reconciling them.

I dunno that it was a bona fide offer, or if he was just indicating that he was as stumped as everyone else by the continuity problem.
