The website STLtoday recently did a profile on artist Rick Burchett, widely known for his art on the animated Batman comics, as well as his recent Batman: 10 Cent Adventure stint. Below is an excerpt:
Despite his preference for drawing villains, Rick Burchett is just a hell of a nice, down-to-earth guy. Most comic-book creators of Burchett's stature live in New York City; he, on the other hand, has chosen to remain in his hometown of St. Louis.
"When I was a kid," he explains, "and I wanted to get into the business, you pretty much had to live in New York, because that's where all the publishers were. Now we have have faxes, we have Federal Express, overnight mail, so now you live wherever you want. And since I grew up here, there was really no reason to leave."
Burchett has been drawing comics for two decades (2002 marks his 20th year in the business), and got his start with a regional company, First Comics, which published out of Chicago.
