Anyone remember this 1986 cartoon special that predated Ducktales? Scrooge was a principal character and the whole thing was highly tongue in cheek satirical, without any of the 80s schmaltz and child eye view wonder of the Disney saturday morning Golden-age (Talespin, Ducktales, Darkwing).

Any insight/info/facts/feelings about this one?

Any insight/info/facts/feelings about this one?I loved that cartoon! I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't included on the "Complete Goofy" Walt Disney Treasures DVD set, because I hadn't seen it in ages.

But I thought it was cool how it was like an early DuckTales (it was the first time I'd heard Russi Taylor as Huey Dewey and Louie), but much more cartoony and silly.

Go Duckburg Greenbacks!

I...NEED...TO...SEE...THIS.

How much does this differ in tone and animation from Ducktales? And where was it animated?

How much does this differ in tone and animation from Ducktales? And where was it animated?I'd say it was about on par with some of the zanier episodes of Darkwing Duck or Goof Troop... or maybe some Tiny Toons.

It was originally shown as part of a "Sports Goofy" TV special back on NBC's "The Magical World of Disney," as I recall. I've gone looking for a release of it somewhere, but the only place I've seen it is on a few Goofy compilation tapes in Europe.

I actually have it on tape, bad quality, but still fun to watch.

What design Goofy has? the late 40's/50's/Goof Troop design or the classic design?

He had a weird 80's look to him, sort of what he would like if he were on Duck Tales.

I remember seeing this special when I was in grade school (when it originally aired), but haven't seen it since then. I mostly just recall Scrooge asking someone if the trophy(?) Goofy won "is tax deductible" (the first time I'd heard of the term).

Are you talking of "Sport Goofy in Soccermania", which I know I recall viewing
a part of? If "SGIS" is what you talk of, I know some things about it:

It was animated in the USA,and was originally the work of Darrell Van Citters.
HOWEVER....and there's always a HOWEVER when you talk of mid1980s Disney+an outlaw of the medium, the DisneyLords viewed "SGIS" and ordered
brother DV to downtone it. He would not,and was canned/replaced w/a dude
named Matthew O'Callaghan,I think, who transformed it into that 1986
spesh that,Amen,you remember viewing.

If I recall,DV's version of "SGIS" would have "suct the Jack Kinney-era Goof
thru a 1980s straw".What? By that st8ment,I mean that Jack Kinney and DV
had "Warner Bros. cartoon minds". Disney hated it when JK perpetrated
WBisms,and wasn't about to let DV,in the mid1980s,launch to posterity a
cartoon with such.

cool!!! Very interesting!!!!

You have any other info on the Disney toons of the late 80s/early 90s (Darkwing/Ducktales/Talespin)?

I found this:
http://disneyshorts.toonzone.net/years/1987/sportgoofyinsoccermania.html

I found SOCCERMANIA to have more in common with DUCKTALES THE MOVIE than the DUCKTALES TV show. But still, it had a very elastic feeling that was quite irreverent for Disney- even Darkwing Duck, about as post modern as you could get for a Disney toon, was chock full of emotional manipulation and a childs eye sense of wonder. SOCCERMANIA is almost completely dry.
