Just got back from the DC boards, and someone mentioned he works
as a DC licenser (maybe, maybe not), and says the JL licence is still being shopped around, and Hasbro hasn't taken it. Check out the link and decide for yourself. I think Hasbro has it, but it's some food for thought.

This kind of information makes me uneasy. I mean, Kenner has said point-blank that they don't want to give up the Batman license (however, I don't think that they give a damn about Superman). So, if someone else got the license to Justice League, wouldn't that mean that they would just skip doing Batman-related toys? It's happened before: DC Comics released a trading card series almost ten years ago, but since Topps had the Batman license (because of the movie) they just skipped Batman and his supporting characters. They couldn't even mention Batman's name on the Nightwing card!

And even if they get the ability to use Batman and his villains, what company will do them? Sure, Kenner has done a lousy job with releasing them, but the few that they did release were pretty good (Mad Hatter, Darkseid, Harley Quinn).

I'm not sticking up for Kenner, but this news is unsettling.

I'm hoping that the JL licence will include Batman or any one of batman's rogue gallery, as long as they are done as they appear on
Justice League only. Having the Justice League without Batman is a huge mistake on the part of whoever licenses JL. I still personally think hasbro still has the licence. Those posts hold no credence for me. We all know how some boards can get. Rumours flying around like frisbees. We'll see at Toy fair in a month.

I definately agree, Veil1, but Hasbro has burned us before. It's not official news, but it still makes me uneasy.

All you have to say is Batman Beyond, Karkull.
That line was horrible!!!

Just a quick clarification.

Kenner - part of Tonka - became part of Hasbro in 1991. They kept their offices in Cincinnati until year end 2000 when Hasbro closed them. A few survivors moved to RI to work at Hasbro's main office.

I'd like to see either DC Direct or McFarlane Toys get the license. We'll probably never get a 6" line until one of them gets it. Just imagine the possibilities of an oversized line done by McFarlane. Not only would it most likely be perfect, but we'd probably get all the characters Hasbro never even considered. Montoya could even be apart of it. That's just a pipe dream, of course. Hasbro makes too much cash off of Bats.

I'd also like to see Medicom and/or Sideshow Toys get one just because I want some super articulated 12" masterpieces.

I'm sorry, but I can't see McFarlane toys doing them. One of the joys of the Batman and Superman TAS lines was how they looked exactly like their art-deco, minimilist T.V. counterparts. If they were super-articulated and detailed they wouldn't be based on the animated show.

Well, if McFarlane were to get the license, I would expect them to maintain the minimalist look. They could most certainly be articulated and still maintain it. Now, just imagine if Toy Biz got it. My, my....

Toy Fair 2002 is not too far away...and if there's no JLTAS line there, then I'll be pissed...

Peace,
