1 year ago:
Having actually passed the manga at the point of the match against Rikkaidai, and made up their own crappy moves and matches for the players, pretty much destroying Yagyuu, Kirihara, and Sanada, Prince of Tennis had undergone a year of filler. With the manga still just barely ahead, the anime ended with a horrendous as crap ending that made no sense.

The present:
Prince of Tennis is back baby. 13 OVA episodes, with the first out now, and all the remaining DVDs to have 2 each. And pretty close to the manga, too.

Kuwabara's review of Episode 1 of the PoT OVA series.

This was fairly close to the manga(in comparison to the Rikkaidai matches, at least).

Notable changes:
Hyoutei getting the invite not shown
No meeting between Echizen and Kintarou
Echizen not with Seigaku at the start, but shows back up
Tezuka already with Seigaku
Rokkaku vs. Seigaku beach volleyball training removed(which means Echizen doesn't get a new grip from Oji in the anime)
Tezuka vs Oishi replaced with Echizen vs Oishi and takes place after Higa vs. Rokkaku(anime inserts a day break between that match and Seigaku vs. Higa)

Aside from that, its pretty close, and they actually expanded a little bit on the Higa matches, in Saeki's case. Kai aiming for Oji was still brutal, as well.
I actually wish they would have added a little more, but I guess it would've been redundant, Rokkaku got thoroughly humiliated by Higa.

Next episode: Echizen Ryouma vs. Tanishi Kei in Singles 3.

And the preview also showed some of Hyoutei, which is interesting as they didn't appear in the corresponding manga chapters. Perhaps the anime will show some of Hyoutei's match against Shishigaku.

Good job Production IG.
