Howdy,

Finally found a source for the Dark Horse Comics solicitations coming in June that's not from the site that shall not be named:

Dark Horse Comics in June 2006 (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=38121)

Offhand:

- New Usagi Yojimbo TPB in July! Yay!

- The 13th Son looks like some wicked cool Kelley Jones artwork. Anybody know anything about the series?

- The Chinese Hellboy and Abe Sapien figures are kind of cool.

- Depending on how heavy the month is, that revised book of Jerry Robinson's The Comics may get pre-ordered.

- New Conan arc by Mike Mignola. After that, I think Kurt Busiek comes back for 1 drawn by Eric Powell and one more "Born on the Battlefield" story and then it's Tim Truman taking over. I may use this issue as the point where I switch to waiting-for-the-trade. Haven't quite decided yet.

- Are those digest-sized Concrete reprints all black-and-white? Including the ones that were printed (and then reprinted) in color like Fragile Creature and Think Like a Mountain? If so, then I'm glad I didn't double-dip for them past vol. 1. In any event, this month gets the Strange Armor reprint, which wasn't my favorite of the minis. It is to Concrete's original origin story what the extended dance remix edition of The Empire Strikes Back is to the original; lots of stuff added, but most of it doesn't really add anything important.

- I might pick up that Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron Omnibus edition. Always been a sucker for Mike Stackpole techno-jargon Star Wars thrillers.

- Did I mention new Usagi Yojimbo TPB in July? Yay!

I'll probably pop for the Revelations trade, despite my general dislike of Humberto Ramos' art, because I like the premise and it just sounds like a nice, self-contained thriller and I can always go for those sorts of things.

Other than that, I'll get to Concrete eventually, but it'll probably be a while. I'm catching up rapidly, thanks to Dark Horse's speedy and reliable trade program, but I pick the volumes up at my own leisure so there's no telling when I'll finally get around to picking it up.

STAR WARS: LEGACY #1 - i guess i'll see what this 100 years later is all about.
STAR WARS: REBELLION—MY BROTHER, MY ENEMY #3

i'm glad to be seeing STAR WARS OMNIBUS: X-WING ROGUE SQUADRON VOLUME 1 TPB. this would be a nice thing for me to have, except i have every issue of rogue squadron. i wish dark horse began their star wars omnibus trades with dark empire. i would love to have all the dark empire series' and tie ins all collected in one package.

I'm reading it as it comes out. Great art, but the story isn't anything to write home about. If you're looking for gruesome monsters tearing each other apart, you'll be more than satisfied, but the plot is pretty basic.

Unfortunately, yes. Still, for those of us that haven't been able to track down the originals, the TPBs are a good deal.

It looks like a big month for me when it comes to Dark Horse (well, bigger than usual, anyway). Here's what I'll be getting:

AMANO: THE TALE OF GENJI HC ILLUSTRATED NOVEL - I'm loving all the Yositaka Amano stuff being published lately. His GN series Hero should finally be hitting stores soon, there have been a couple of other Amano art books solicited over the past few months, and now this. I'm a huge fan of his art and it's great to see more of his work being published.

B.P.R.D.: THE UNIVERSAL MACHINE #3 (of 5)

CONAN #29 - I'm excited about this Mike Mignola written issue. Too bad I'll be dropping the title soon after.

CONAN: BOOK OF THOTH #4 (of 4)

CONCRETE VOLUME 6: STRANGE ARMOR TPB

PENNY ARCADE VOLUME 2: EPIC LEGENDS OF THE MAGIC SWORD KINGS TPB

STAR WARS: LEGACY #1

VAMPIRE HUNTER D VOLUME 4: TALE OF THE DEAD TOWN NOVEL

Hey Ace,

I just finished reading the fourth issue of 13th Son, and thought I should give you a head's up since you're considering the TPB. The final issue ends on a cliffhanger, and the letter column tells us (for the first time  ) that the story is actually 8 issues long, and the "real" tale will be told later in the last four issues - these first four were essentially set-up. I've gotta say I feel kind of jipped. You might want to wait and see if the entire 8-issue story gets collected in another TPB later.

Man, what IS it with Dark Horse and 4-issue mini-series that aren't? First they do it with Perhapanauts (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=2113817&postcount=15) and now they do it with 13th Son.

Mental note to self -- be careful of mini-series from Dark Horse from now on...
