I'm starting to think "sometime during the summer, in an overnight time slot, if at all".

Think really stealthily, à la the shows that became the nucleus of "Adult Swim".

I just been informed that the reason the two final episodes haven't aired yet, was because of censor problems.

Censor problems? Sounds like either the second or third Popeye cartoons (with the Indian/Mexican/Ghandi charactures) released, or one of the more overt WWII Popeyes like "Seein' Red, White `N Blue" must be in the mix, since I doubt they'd be crazy enough to try and get "Popeye a la Mode" on the air.

Well I hope that Bozo can tell us just what the problem is with the last two episodes. I think we deserve to know what's going on.

Perhaps maybe GAK can be of help?

Hello,
Yes, unfortunately we ran into some standards issues right at the end of the year and it became too late (the holidays) to straighten them out in time for the shows to run as scheduled. Most of it has been worked out but the current schedule got thrown off. The shows that did not run were actually shows 10 and 11. 10 contained Popeye the Sailor and 11 contained Happy Birthdaze. Because I try not to run edited cartoons these shows become a little more difficult to deal with when standards issues arise. Keep a good thought!

Thanks for the update, Bozo!

I really hope that "Happy Birthdaze" gets shown, I would love to see that one in black & white (and with the ending unedited). I am sure it will be worth the wait.

Yeah, "Happy Birthdaze" would be a treat. I still have the edited redrawn version from last year...

Well, here's what's cut out:

After Shorty blows out the candles, he starts singing happy birthday to "London Bridge is Falling Down". In the darkness, we hear two gunshots, implying that Popeye has just shot Shorty! Smoke emerges from the black screen saying "The Bitter End"

Fun Fact: The voice of Shorty, Arnold Stang, also provided the voice of Herman the Mouse.

I think Stang only did Shorty in "Moving Aweigh". The other two times, he was voiced by Jack Mercer (Popeye).

Minor clarification on Shorty's voice: Arnold Stang only provided his voice on the last of the three cartoons, "Moving Aweigh," apparently because the first two, the B&W "Happy Birthdaze" and the color "Marry-Go-Round" were voice-tracked in Miami, before Famous Studios moved back to New York (Mae Questel and Jackson Beck picked up the Olive and Bluto roles when the studio returned to the Times Square area). I think Jack Mercer did Shorty's voice in the first two cartoons, but I wouldn't bet the rent money on it.

(BTW -- I support Shorty could be the subject of a future "Toonheads" since there were three cartoons made with the character. Of course, running them in reverse order would make the most sense, since he gets killed off at the end of "Happy Birthdaze").
