Because you demanded it, I have created my own web page with a section featuring a sampling of my Tom and Jerry artwork. The url for my site is...

http://www.geocities.com/darthgonzo2002/index.html

I hope you enjoy the pictures and check back soon when I add the other features to the site. Maybe some of you are Small Wonder fans. Who knows. Remember that all my drawings are freehand and without reference. Later, guys.

Those drawings are exceptional. If I didn't know you did them, I'd think they were done by the animators themselves.

MAN! I am impressed! VERY well done. And as we discussed before, these are not the easiest toons to draw.

...are you SURE you didn't do those wrap-arounds for CN's Tom & Jerry show?:)

Those were cool! Very authentic to the actual cartoons!

Those are awesome...I draw cartoons well but I have NEVER been able to draw Tom and Jerry, and certainly not *THAT* well. How did you learn to do that?

How'd I learn to do that?

Well, watching Tom and Jerry for 22 years is a pretty good start. Actually, there was a very long period of time between the mid 1980s and the mid 90s when I really didnt watch Tom and Jerry much. I didnt have Cartoon Network until 1997 and the rare Tom and Jerrys were nonexistant on television for a while. Sometime in later 1998 I really got back into the characters, and my enthusiasm was charged up even further these past two years with the showings of rare cartoons, allowing me to complete my Tom and Jerry collection.

As far as drawing them, I really did give that a serious try until a few years ago and it look a few years and alot of practice to get them perfect. If you look at a Tom and Jerry drawing I made in 1998 and compare it any of the ones I have on my site, it looks like night and day.

Deciding what to draw is always the hardest part. Sometimes I'll watch a cartoon and something will spark in me and I'll draw that. Sometimes I already have an idea in my head. Still other times I just sit in front of a blank piece of paper with no idea what to make.

I almost always draw Tom first. I used to sketch the shape of his head as a circle with an added bump for the far side of his cheek but I stopped doing that. It resulted in the portion of his head between his closest ear and eye being two wide. When I got rid of the aforementioned bump Tom (as well as Jerry) started to look lots better.

I could go on and on about this, but I can just let the pictures speak for themselves. Anyone have a specific scene from a cartoon they wanna see me do?

I like the Sleepy Time Tom and Baby Puss drawings the best, but all of them are excellent. You could probably draw a Tom and Jerry comic strip or book if you wanted too.

Thanks, Jack. Love the avator, by the way.

Did I mention I HATE the cover of the 50 Years of Cat and Mouse book. Someone working with Tom and Jerry should see my artwork. I'd bring back a classic look and style to the characters we havent seen in decades. It's amazing how badly theyve been handled since the late 50s. Seriously, what are the odds that I could get hired on some sort of Tom and Jerry project as a model sheet artist or principal character designer? Current Tom and Jerry projects need that old style look to make them effective. Cartoons like the Mansion Cat just dont work for me.

Thanks again, guys

Well, that cartoon didn't work on any levels for me. The modern background art was unattractive, the music was uninspired, and Tom looked monkeyish. MGM cartoons had an feeling of class. Bright watercolor/oil backgrounds and expressive, detailed chracters, jazzy music-it all fit perfectly!

...and it would help if CN.com used colored lines for its publicity art.

BTW, what does the "50 Years of Cat and Mouse" cover look like?

Don't know what language it is (Japanese?), but click the link below, scroll down and you'll see the cover of "50 Years...", and some other interesting T&J books:)

NOW - Quid pro quo, Clarice - What the heck is Mansion Cat? Did Turner or MGM pull a "Box Office Bunny" on us and make a new Tom & Jerry recently - or is this another web toon that my WEB-TV won't let me see? TIA

It's a made for TV short, I can't find any websites about it anymore, though. It was made in 2000. It does have a few interesting spots, Joe barbera voices Tom's master, and some backgrounds feature vintage photos from MGM as artwork. They show it occasionally on CN.
