Okay, i saw the ep tonight, but havent watched it since last season (mainly cause of no mulder), so whats going on here? Did mulder and scully hook up before he left to go into "hidding"? did they like fall in love or something, cause scully seemed to be acting that way.
also, is scully not part of the x-files anymore? why is agent rayis agent doggit's partner now? what happened to scully?
did doggit become less of a sceptic, cause he sure bought the "super soldier" story w/out questioning it much.
so does anyone know these answers? all i can say is i couldnt believe they resorted to having a fake mulder on this ep and having the whole ep revolve around a character thats gone for good. its actually a sad state of affairs, imo. i think if chris carter was smart, he'd make this the last season, and give the fans and extra big ending w/ a movie w/ mulder and scully, cause once gillian anderson leaves the show at the end of this season (sorry to break the bad news to those who didnt know), well, i dont even want to think about what the shows going to be like once that happens.
so for those whove been watching this season, can you help me out....

I'll give you a brief synopsis, as I dont have much time. I'll go into more detail at some point tomorrow if needed.
Oh yeah SPOILERS!!!!
Mulder and Scully did hook up at the end of last season. The baby is supposed to be Mulder's.
I'm not really sure why Scully's not on the X-Files anymore. That seems to have slipped my mind. Can anyone fill us in?
Doggett's still a skeptic, but he believes in the super-soldiers because he's seen many of them, a couple of his former friends ended up as supersoldiers and some of the super-soldiers tried to kill him.
I couldnt believe they used a fake Mulder either. If you ask me, the mythology eps, which I used to love, are really uninteresting this year, to be nice. The standalone eps have been very good though, so I highly recommend them. I gotta go, but I'll answer any more questions that u might have tomorrow.

You lucked out. I'm an X-Files fanatic who's been watching since the very first episode :p
First though in response to the previous post, technically Mulder and Scully hooked up 2 seasons ago in season 7.
Its basically like this.
Mulder was fired by the FBI. Since its too dangerous for him, he's on the run from the oh so lamely named 'super soldiers'.
Scully once again is teaching at Quantico. Doggett and Reyes are on the X-Files. This is obviously because Gillian Anderson will be gone next year and they need someone to replace it with.
You haven't really missed much this season, there's only been 2 other 'mythology(aka main story) episodes' and 3 Monster of the Week (the one shot ones). The myth episodes have been extremely mediocre, including tonights, the worst its ever been. All this talk about Mulder is ridiculous since David Duchovny's not coming back, period. The MOTW eps have been quite good except for one when they spoofed the show 'Jackass'.
BTW, Chris Carter has no choice on whether or not the show ends. He wanted it to end in season 7. FOX said no. The show continued. He wanted to end it last year. FOX said no. The show continues. Despite how mediocre the 'myth' episodes are becoming and how odd this 'next generation' thing is with Mulder and Scully being replaced, the show won't end until its ratings are in the toilet. And lo and behold, so far this season's ratings have been at the same level as the season 1 ones, when the show came in 100th place in the ratings and only got renewed because FOX had nothing that got any ratings back then. In all likelyhood the show will be cancelled at the end of the season, ending or no ending, and there will be no 2nd movie.

Right, Sculyl & Mulder hooked up 2 years ago, that's what I meant, I forgot about the 9 months of pregnancy thing.
Also, Scully originally left the X-Files to care for her baby.
Yeah, the Jackass spoof was poor, but the other two were very good. I think next week's episode looks like it has a lot of promise. I like Doggett-centric episodes, he's my favorite character now, with Gillian Anderson seeming so dis-interested and I'm not quite sure what to make of Reyes yet.

wow, i find it hard to believe that chris carter has no say over when the show ends, but i guess thats business for you.
so wait, i still need to understand mulder and scully's hooking up. didnt he just donate sperm for her baby, not actually have sex w/ her?
also, at the end of last season, they didnt hook up on screen, so whats the deal? did they fall in love? did scully talk about it in this season's season premire? can you go into more detail on their relationship, cause im still confussed.
you know, i think it sucks cause the whole "will mulder and scully hook-up" thing was so beautifully played throughout the series, and then when they finally do, its off screen and pathetic.
also, since scully's out of the fbi, how come they still called her agent scully in last nights ep? did she just take a leave of absence from the fbi or leave it for good? and was she not in the monster of the week eps, cause if she wasnt, thats sad.
wow, its funny, i remember a tv guide article a while back spoofing final eps of series, and they had a cartoon of two new agents replacing mulder and scully on the x-files, spoofing dukes of hazard or something cause suposedly the main characters on that show were replaced too. it actually came true. so sad, cause that show in its prime was like nothing else on tv. peace.

Sorry, I meant to reply earlier, but it slipped my mind.
Mulder did donate sperm to Sclly, however that didnt get her pregnant. Then it was implied at some point later in the season (arguable), that Mulder and Scully "did it." However, the question of how she became pregnant in the first place has never been answered. Considering she's infertile, it's been called a miracle and left it at that. The only thing we've seen Mulder & Scully do is kiss at the end of last season. What I didnt like about this episode is how suddenly Mulder & Scully became all weepy-lovey-dovey. It just felt way out of character.
Scully took a leave of absence from the FBI to take care of her baby. I'm not sure why she didnt ask for her post on the X-Files back. Maybe because she felt it would be too time consuming. SO she is now teaching at the academy.
I really like Doggett, and I'm warming up to Reyes. I dont mind that Scully & Mulder are being replaced. But I do mind that it seems that the writers have gotten lazy. They're picking up and ending storylines as they please, which is why the myth eps suck now. However, you'll see in some of the standalones that when they try, they can still write some dang good stories.

I don't care much for Reyes, but Dogget rules :D I loved seeing him and Mulder working together but unfortunately it was for such a short time :( My only problem is that they're making him too 'Mulder-like' in the mythology episodes -_- Ruining Dogget's character by making him into a Mulder clone will simply make things worse

She feels her baby is too much at risk after the wierd events surrounding her child's birth and near-abduction. She's been distancing herself from the X-Files because of the danger to herself and her child.

Are you sure? That sounds really odd to me. I've never heard that. Successful shows go out on top all the time. I've never heard of tv networks forcing a show to continue beyond a creator's wishes. And just in looking at the episode themselves, there never seemed to be a point when Carter really pushed the story forward, which he would have if he wanted to end the series.

Chris Carter begged them to end the show last season, which ended with Scully and Mulder kissing for the first time in the series. The show would go on to a movie series. FOX said no. He then asked if he could have a 3 year contract so he could 'reinvent' the show. FOX said "screw you, you only get one year at a time". He eventually caved and signed a deal with them. If he hadn't they would have run the show without him. Not to mention the fact that FOX told CC if the Lone Gunmen show got ratings at a certain level they'd renew it, they got those ratings, and FOX cancelled it anyway. FOX sucks, end of story

Wow, I wasn't aware of any of that. I'd always blamed Carter for not planning ahead and not knowing when to end the series. Thanks for clearing up that misconception.
