I have no idea when and or if, "Big O" will return to Cartoon Network. The show only had thirteen episodes, IIRC. It's way too short to be aired weekdays and would fare better once a week.

It probably won't be coming back to Toonami for a while, unless new episodes are actually produced...

I know that has only 13 episodes but it has a big following(go to everanime.com if you want proof). I would think Cartoon Network would understand that and air it (maybe every weekend on Adult Swim?). I agree with your comment that it would probably do better once a week.

BTW, what does IIRC mean??

As you can probably tell, I'm kind of new to this forum so I apologize if I take a little too long to reply.

Speaking of Big O, does anyone on the Toonami forum like Big O??

I just wish there were more episodes. :(

That's cool. I was hoping to find more people who liked the show. Do you have any of the DVD's? I have watched Volume 1 so many times that I want more(I recall seeing some epsiodes on Toonami but I don't remember much;after all, I like watching shows from the beginning). I'm getting Volume 2 tomorrow.

I'd get the Big O DVDs, but I don't have a DVD player, unfortunately.... I'll be getting one soon, though.

I hear that the Big O manga is interesting, and it's still running, too... You might want to look into that, also.

I really liked Big O. Of course, I bought the DVDs. I think that it was a highlight of Toonami when it was on.

Big O is my favorite toonami show.

One of the things that attracted me to Big O was its presentation. Here we had an anime show that reminded me of the original Batman: serious, stylish, and episodic. I also liked the unanswered questions the show left me with. It gave the viewers a reason to keep watching. Unfortunately, most of those questions were not answered....

The creators of it really want to make more, they just need approval.

[indent]I love Big O, it is one of my favorite Toonami series along with Tenchi Muyo! and DBZ. It probably just has not shown in awhile since it has had 3 runs each on the afternoon and Midnight runs of Toonami in the last 9 months. There were definitely plans for Season 2 based on the interview on the 4th DVD, but whether it ever actually went into production seems to be up in the air. I can't wait to start reading the manga. I believe it debuts stateside in February.

I agree with everything you said (I'm a big Batman fan). There is one extra reason I like the show: Roger calls Paradigm "The City of Amnesia". That's how I feel when I watch the show. We know what they know, and like the characters, the viewers try to piece everything together.

Airing that little known anime called Big O that was cancelled in Japan was the smartest decision Toonami made last year. I anxiously await its return (especially since there's still some episodes I have to tape :( )

I was looking at my post and I noticed that I gave out the wrong internet site  . The site I was talking about where a lot (and I mean A LOT) of people support Big O is at www.animejump.com. Check out the forum.

Big O could use some more episodes to develop its plot more. It could have really used that. Until then, I don't have any desire to see it on the block any time soon.

I say we start up a petition (if there isn't already one) to have Cartoon Network/Toonami actually fund Big O for a second season.

JTurner954
01-06-2002, 10:17 PM
I'll second that (unless someone else did). How do we get that going?? I'll let animejump.com know some people are interested (There are people who would like to help, right? :) ).

Didn't Meteo once say that new episodes are currently being produced?

EmoKark
01-06-2002, 10:48 PM
Yeah I heard somewhere on the net...not sure so its probably not true but I heard that Big O was cancled. I dont know if this means Big O was droped from Toonami or the second season production stoped

Just to add I heard this acouple of weeks ago when Big O wasnt on toonami for awhile.

Sheamon

It wasn't really the plot that I enjoyed so much about Big O. After all, outside of the first 2 episodes, every episode was self contained. What I liked was the atmosphere. The characters. The way they potrayed people with no memories. The interesting aspects of the city and how its run. Can't forget the music :p

Obviously count me in on any Big O petition/whatever.

EmoKark

The music was great

BIG O... BIG O BIG O BIG O.....

its like Queen, Kraftwork, and Wylde Stalyons (like from Bill and ted)... So I loved it!

[indent]Ah, you speak of Meteo, I know him really well, heh. He didn't say before that new episodes were being produced, but that indications were highly likely that they were or that they were going to be. The interview with the creators of Big O on the 4th DVD (released in December) discusses, although vaguely, their plans for episodes 14-26. The interesting part about it was they never mentioned anything about this being what they hope to do or what they plan to do if the show gets renewed, instead it was pretty much what they were going to do without any indications of doubt over whether they would be able to do it. However, the interview was conducted in July of 2000, 18 months ago. That does leave a lot of time for things to change, but from what anyone has been able to dig up this is about the most reliable information out there at this point, unless anyone has proof of anything else. Hopefully it is in production and we just have not heard anything more out of Japan since it isn't a big title like Gundam or something.

It sounds like more Big O was planned, but it never actually came. Sunrise won't fund it. Wouldn't it be neat? Toonami could brag about having world premire Big O episodes, it would be the first time an English dub was aired before the Japanese version. It seems that most of Big O's fan base are on Toonami anyway. If Toonami listened for ReBoot, they may take a shot with more Big O, if it's at all possible.

Actually, it wouldn't be the first time that popularity in the US caused a Japanese company to produce more of a show (I think this was the case with Tenchi). I also think Sunrise is watching DVD sales more than Toonami ratings (although I could be way off base). I doubt it would be released here first though - even if more were produced (but it would be funny if the original language was English and it had to be dubbed/subbed into Japanese - their otaku could argue over which was more faithful :) - someone else made this observation in another forum here in regard to PPG DVDs being released in Japn)

Hi, I just got back from my 5 hour journey of looking for Big O Volume 2 and I finally got it. Proof that the show is still popular: I got the last copy.

Anyway, I have a question about the main menu for Volume 2: Is the screen suppose to have static (it looked clearer on Volume 1).

Also, the dealer at one of the places I went to said that the DVD's were recalled. Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't think Sunrise wants to make new episodes even with this. I mean have Cartoon Network actually fund the episodes, as in pay for their production, and they'd better be able to air it first because they'd basically have the American rights before the Japanese bought it.

Although fans may hate the english-only DVDs that may follow. In that case, tell them that English is the original language anyway.

I doubt CN is going to fund anything. Look what happened to Reboot (not that I dig the show but it was an incident where CN reportedly help fund part of the production then scaled it back - or at least that's what some reported).

I'm still hoping that good sales of the DVDs & manga will send a message to Sunrise ("Hey, this is popular - capitalize on it to make some cash!"). As a matter of fact, I wasn't going to buy the DVDs but now I might :)

Is the Big O manga even out in stores yet?? When I bought the 10 cent Batman comics, I asked the dealer and he said no.

BTW, on my five hour journey to get Big O Volume 2, I received proof that Big O must still be popular: I BOUGHT THE LAST COPY.

Get tghis: The places that didn't have Big O said that the DVD's were recalled. Does anyone know why there was a supposed recall?

VinceA

I haven't heard anything about a recall from any of the sites I follow (including AnimeOnDVD.COM)

There was a commercial on during Toonami about robots ruling the planet. Among the footage was, you guess it, BIG O. In fact, they showed A LOT of Big O footage. Could this be an omen that Toonami could be bringing it back??

On another note, has anyone started the Big O petition yet?

[indent]"Advanced Robotics" has actually been running since the Midnight Run Special Edition at the end of August.

VinceA
01-09-2002, 08:15 PM
The "Advanced Robotics" thing has been around since the first showing on the Midnight Run: Special Edition. I don't think it's a harbinger of Big O's return. Other Toonami videos have big sections of other shows (the "End Transmission" one - not sure of the real name - has lots of Blue Submarine 6 footage in it)

William C. Maune

[indent]Toonami had an hour long special of nothing but animated music videos. They played Daft Punk, Gorillaz, etc. along with Toonami videos which included the premiere of Advanced Robotics.

JTurner954

Did Midnight Run: Special Edition show anything else besides music videos?? At first, it sounded like a DVD.

Speaking of which, is there such a thing as a Toonami DVD?

Albright
01-09-2002, 09:16 PM
No to both questions.

But back at the EzBoard, someone mentioned that it'd be very l33t if Toonami put out a DVD that had all of its music videos and maybe even all of the show openings and such. It might be a pain getting the licensing stuff from everyone involved, but if they did... I'd buy it, fer sure.

Are these music videos similar to "Groovies" or are they original music videos??

Personally, I like the Toonami sequences where the space man (I think Tom is his name) is watching a show in his spaceship. Too bad they didn't incorporate those into DVD's (Big O Volume 1 has a trailer for Gundam Wing by Toonami).

I think Rock Da House would be correct (name of one of there songs) I love both of them as I'm guessing most of you can see from the Picture.

All the Daft Punk videos are available on Toonami's Reactor site. You can find some of the Gorillaz stuff on their site:
http://www.gorillaz.com

I think some of the longer Toonami 'videos' (show clips with a profound monologue) might be found on the Toonami site

Neither. They're clips of shows that have aired on Toonami set to original music done by the same fellow who does the music that airs in the background in the Toonami openings for their shows. (HIs name escapes me right now.) Often they'll include the soundtrack from the show clip that's airing as well, but sometimes they'll let the music play over it. In the Advanced Robotics one, there was even a monologue by some guy ranting wildly about robots taking over humankind. It was odd but cool at the same time.

I was watching some of Cowboy Bebop and I made a discovery: The guy who voices Spike is THE SAME VOICE AS ROGER SMITH.

This made me wonder: Would it be possible to contact the voice actors from Big O to see if they heard anything about a Season 2? Maybe also to see if they would be interested in voicing another season??

I never really saw Cowboy Bebop before ( I like seeing shows from the first episode on) so I was watching a little bit and heard his voice. Actually, it was my first time watching all the shows on Adult Swim.

I really Hope Big O Comes back I can still remember The first time I heard of it. It was the Commercial on Cartoon Network Just seeing that commecial got me so excited and the end where the narrator said: Good Guys Still Wear Black. This was like a week before it premered I was like I can't wait for this show!...Then three days later I lost Cable but luckily I caught it on it's 2nd run I can't wait to get my DVD Player so I can buy Big O Vol 1,2,3,4

You really should get a DVD player. But don't get the ones that are less than $100. I bleive they have good ones starting at $115. If you buy The Big O DVD's, you are helping the cause to have a Season 2 (did you see what I said about Amazon.com?)

DarkMaster

there nothing like the groovies, and no the videos have nothing to do with returns.

Their doing the videos to the cd Space Bass.

The 3 videos have meanings.

the robots of kellner carry out their own will, cold and emotionless..thousands programmed for destruction..watching waiting caculating their new world order. they're talking about WB toonami.

mad rhetoric the why can't i make u understand thing, refers to us telling the thick skulled people that WB toonami and CN toonami aren't joining forces and u still don't get it do you.

This was originally posted in "A Positive Sign Of Big O's Return" but since that thread is dead I'm posting it here as well.

Okay, complaining in the US doesn't seem to be working...

so let's take it across the ocean!

After some time looking around, I found the official Sunrise Big O page here: www.nifty.ne.jp/rstation/sunrise/big_o/big_o.htm which lead me to this email address: web@sunrise-inc.co.jp
for "inquiry mail." If you can talk Japanese, do so. If you can't, I'd probably suggest sticking to simple English (the person who reads these has to know the basics) rather than using the Altavista engine, since, in case you haven't noticed, it sucks.

That's some interesting interpretations that "u" have.

However, while I'll acknowledge the possibility, I seriously doubt that they "r" true. Certainly the Toonami folks have been known to put little messages like that in their commercials that you might not catch if you're not prepared (such as the extended "Kids Love It" bit for the CardCaptors commercial, although it's hard to miss that one), but I don't think they take it quite to extremes such as this....

If what you're saying is right, looks like Big O's "future, is comin' on..."

DVD's are selling like hotcakes you say? I'm glad to know I contributed to the cause!

I bought my friend a Big O action figure and DVD for Christmas and his birthday. He loves it so much that he'll be getting the rest of the DVD's when he can!

Good sales mean a continuation of the TV series???

Let's not forget to pick up the manga as well!

I too would love to see Big O back on CN for a run or two, but, just to correct something said earlier, Rdoger Smith and Spike Spegal may be the same VA, but TOM2 is NOT David Lucas. TOM2 is Steve Blum.

BTW, the VA company is the Animaze/ZRO limit group who work with Bandai and Pioneer alot. Great group! They also did Bebop and Outlaw Satr, and you guys know hoe good those dubs are, along with Gundam 0080.

Also, I would sign a petiton to support more Big O, but I shoudl buy the DVDs first. :o

JTurner954
01-14-2002, 01:48 PM
All right. More people are supporting Big O. Let's get the petition started.

If no one actually wants to, how about giving the snail mail address so everyone can write to Sunrise or whatever company is responsible for Big O.
