Disney and censorship and match made in HELL. Everyone knows the song zipadidoda but how many know the movie it came from thanks to idiotic censorship. I boycotted the Fantastia release due to horrific censorship. Tell Disney to cut it out.

I remember hearing about Ratatouille... it's about a rat in a Paris restaurant kitchen or something to that effect.

This is very borderline company talk. You guys can discuss the animation projects themselves, but please steer away from griping about the company itself.

This is the Disney ANIMATION board.

So er...where else would you post this? It's still essentally about animation: like the conformation that Disney don't intend to re-release Song of the South anytime soon, and the stuff about Brad Bird now directing Pixar's next film. Seems pretty animation based to me.

yes but when people start complaining about the company business, then it falls under the rule that is pinned on the first page of the forum (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=133886).

The only exception to talking about the Disney Company, is discussing the Disney/Pixar merger.

If people start complaining about the Disney Company, and using this thread to vent their dislike, then it's breaking the rule I mentioned.

You guys can discuss the animation projects, but this is not for complaining about the company, how it's run, and who is running it. This thread is borderline.

Comon Delia...sometimes theres just no was to talk about this kinda stuff unless some discussion of the Disney Company comes up.

How can we talk about Disney animation if we can't talk actually talk about the Disney Company?

As long as we all stop griping about the censorship issues and be civil here I think we should have the freedom to talk about the company. Because if we cant...well...I guess this thread might as well be closed.

I'm seriously not trying to flame or be rude, so honestly dont take me the wrong way. But I enjoy good discussion and to me the goings on with the company have a lot to do with the product we're all here talking about.

I think Jimmy is referring to the censorship being inflicted on "Song of the South". It's not being released on DVD because some say the black characters depicted in that film are insulting. I totally disagree. The character of Uncle Remus comes off exactly as he does in the book, as a kindly storyteller. In fact Walt "plussed" the character by making him heroic and compassionate. A fine actor played Remus, and although he and the other black characters DO act like plantation slaves, they are no more exaggerated than are the black characters in "Gone With The Wind". Why isn't THAT censored, I'd like to know, if SotS is? The whole controversy is ridiculous IMO.

Disneys refusal to release Song of the South is just one of many atrocities they have commited. Click on the above link for details on the rape that was done to Disneys Fantasia and other examples of lack of respect for film history.

Comon guys, this needs to stop. I'd like to be able to have a discussion of the Disney corporation without it turning into a tirade like this. Obviously when Delia gets back and checks out this thead i'm sure she'll end up closing it.

Either way, I don't consider reformating one scene in Fantasia to be "raping" a film. I don't like it, but i'm not the type to boycott anything because of something like this.

Ever see the episode of Drawn Together that mocked Disneys censorship campain. It featured a nazi style death camp for politically incorrect cartoons run by a very Darth Vader like Mickey Mouse. I love Spanky's "Look these cartoons are part of our history not a part were proud of but important nontheless."

With all the Brad Bird love among animation enthusiasts (and this board from the most part) I'm surprised there isn't more comments regarding his return to directing another feature at Pixar on this board. What, did you all glaze over that and look for the negatives automatically? :p

As per my response when When Daikun posted this over at AI, I'm rather shocked by the news. I mean, I think we all suspected Bird would direct another film at Pixar, but I myself didn't think he'd be back till a few other directors had a pass at their films (someone else has been said to be helming Ratatouille since first word of it's production). Additionally I'd always assumed that Pixar's next gig at Pixar would be either the Incredibles 2, or a film of his own creation.

That being said, I now eagerly anticipate Ratatouille, more so then most Pixar films (Which says something). Bird is an excellent director who gets what it takes to mold a brilliant story, and push the envelope in terms of the animation process. Exciting!

Bolded for humor value.

And you're right. Most of the news was awesome and this forum is just too negative. Most of the people here sound like Disney-edition ********s. I'll come back here when Cars comes out, I'm sure it'll give lots of interesting debate topics, but if people are still damning a company that is doing a lot to save itself from its errors in the past then I'll, I dunno, start a blog or something to talk about Pixar and junk elsewhere.

There's been tons of shifts in the management lately. The only changes needed are for the TV division and the home video department. Once those changes come, you'll all be happy.

Or just start complaining about something else. I dunno. I can't read your minds.

Bah! Curse my non-ability to reread what I write. :p

I hardly ever visit this particular board because of just that. Seems like whenever there's a particularly interesting bit of GOOD news that seems ripe for discussion, the people on this forum find some way to spot the 100 little bad things about it. Then discussion devolves into attacks on people making decisions they don't like...or worse yet, breeds narrow-mindedness (I distinctly recall people adamant about not seeing Chicken Little BEFORE it was even advertised simply because it isn't 2D AND from Disney).

Anyway...yeah I suppose that's it. Guys and gals...try looking at the silver lining on things, it'll decrease stress and you'll live a bit longer and be all the happier for it. :p

I had no idea Brad Bird was directing Ratatouille....this is good. Especially since it will more than likely follow Flushed Away, the Aardman film with a similar premise. I still say A Bug's Life would get more respect if Antz hadn't diluted its originality.

-Brad Bird is directing a new film called Ratatouille I've loved most everything Brad Bird has been involved in (The Incredibles is my favorite American animated film), so this is definitely good news. No imdb listing for it yet, though...

-Cars is looking to be better than we think it will be Good to hear, and truthfully Pixar hasn't let me down in the past, though I don't know if that'll take away my dislike for the character designs.
-2D is going to make a comeback, starting with hybrid techniques in Rapunzel Unbraided I hope 2D makes a comeback, but sadly it doesn't look like this will come out until 2009, according to imdb. And reading the film's early synopsis, it doesn't sound too original. More "twist on fairy tales" stuff in the vein of Shrek and Hoodwinked. Hopefully I'm very wrong, though.
-Unfortunately, Disney's classic shorts won't be seen on TV any time soon Hopefully this means more of the classics will be released on DVD instead.
