With the recent headlines of the "Bugs Bunny censored 12" grabbing national news, and the upcoming TOON HEADS:THE WARTIME CARTOONS. Do you think it's a great thing that these PIC controversial cartoons (and many others) are getting the attention that they so truly deserve?

Yes

Maybe

No

Not Sure

I chose no, in a sense it is good to call attention to these cartoons, but some people who have never seen cartoons like "Frigid Hare" will think the cartoons actually are racist. People who can't see these cartoons will forever have visions of Bugs Bunny maliciously yelling "You big baboon!" at a helpless little Eskimo because Bugs thinks these natives are subhuman.

maybe I should have picked "not sure," but I'm not sure why....

I voted yes....Considering that the newer cartoons gets away with so much murder and the classics gets edited or banned completely. I wouldn't want to offend anyone, but I wouldn't want to see the classic cartoons get buired either. These cartoons should get the attention they deserve, so that people can understand and learn from these films in which the time they were made.

You just can't erase history !!!!

I think it's the type of publicity that I dislike, not the publicity itself. If every person who wrote an article concerning June Bugs had seen all of the cartoons, we would have an overall better understanding of them, and why they should be shown. But the vast majority of editorials I've read just quote the Wall Street Journal, and some are just choc full of ignorance.

Also, I think CN could have shown the cartoons without complaint from anyone if there had been no publicity, now half the world knows about these cartoons, and people who really think the WB artists were racists will already know what titles to seek out if they actually do air someday, without knowing or caring about the circumstances that led to thier creation.

I'm glad that CN & Warners decided to renig on their airing the entire Bugs Bunny library. It has made people aware that these films truly exist and that for one reason or another they are now considered 'bad' by today's standards. They need to realize that people have minds and are able to watch certain films within their historical context. I think Tokio Jokio is a lame cartoon, but it does indeed exist and needs to be watched in a certain way. Look at all the controversy over "Pearl Harbor"! Don't want to offend the Germans & The Japanese , now do we?

'Nuff said.

We aren't making this stuff up! Most movies and cartoons are based in one way or another on factual information and actual people. How can we offend the Japanese and Germans by showing those who actually watch the movie how foolish they were to mess with U.S. I'm sure they see it and are truly disappointed in themselves. On another note, you can't tell me that there aren't cartoons and movies in Japan and Germany thatnegatively portray North Americans. The Japanese have cartoons in which there are black stereotypes all over the place, charcoal black and big lipped. You want an example? Look at Mr. Popo in Dragonball Z. There was another in Big O, but I don't remember the episode. These cartoons are shown on a regular basis on Cartoon Network. No one spots these things . Perhaps because no one really cares. And if no one really cares, then why are companies like AOL Time Warner making the censors work so hard? Ok, I'm finished.

I always noticed that black character in Dragonball Z, but I wasn't too sure if he was black or not.

But, you see, Mr. Popo is almost inconsequential in much of DBZ anyways. When Dragonball airs on CN, *then* you'll see how much the censors go to work. Master Roshi is a pervert with a panty fetish in that series (DBZ, too, but it doesn't come into play that much), Popo is the ultimate "blackface" gag (IIRC, the dragon is why he looks the way he does), and Bulma is an even bigger slut in Dragonball. Although, this much is certain: CN has been getting fairly lenient with DBZ as of late.

YES

FOR SUESIDE AND GUN ACTS <(LET ME EXPLANE THAT ONE)

A TOON LIKE HARE LESS WOLF SHOULD GET CUT (NOT A MUCH AS ABC) BUT THE PART WHERE THE WOLF GETS SHOT IN THE FACE BY BUGS SHOULD BE CUT WHEN SHOWED ON MORNING SHOWS AND SHOULD ALSO BE SHOWEN UNCUT DURING THE LATE HRS (LIKE ACME HR)

NOW I KNOW YOUR GOIN TO TELL ME WHAT ABOUT ELMER BLAH BLAH

I DON'T THINK THAT ELMER IS AS EXTREAM AS THAT ONE SCEAN ON WOLF

THE REASON SOME KIDS (THAT DO NOT KNOW ABOUT GUN SAFETY) MAY BE WATCHIN AND DESIDE TO DO IT NOT KNOWIN THAT THAY WILL DIE FORM IT

OTHER THEN THAT I'M REALY NOT INTO CENSOREING TOONS

In the Pacific Northwest, Dennis Nyback has been touring shows of un-PC cartoons for years. And when his festival rolls into town, it gets lots of local press. I dunno if this really has anything to do with June Bugs. I was kinda surprised the ire raised about the 12 missing Bugs cartoons. I'm not use to anyone caring about cartoons outside Cartoon forums and Dennis Nyback shows.:D

I agree with nelson, there is just as much "offensive humor"on cartoons and TV sitcoms today just like in the past.

I said MAYBE, because I'm stuck between yes and not. It's a good thing because they're finally getting the exposure they deserve. It's a bad thing because now the've caught the attention of people who go out looking for something to get mad about. After the people have read all the reports on the internet, many of which simply clones of thWall Street Journal, they will look for the "negatives" when they watch those cartoons. WHY!? Why is it that America is more PC today than it's ever been and we still have kids killing kids!?
