I got an e-mail from a high-quality online magazine editor asking for opinions on DBZ for some kinda top 10 list she wants to do an op-ed on. I don't think I can help - I'm on the road full-time and haven't watched DBZ in months. I also never read the manga (Japanese comic) the show is based on.
==============
And here's the question:
"If you could list ten differences between the manga and the anime what would be your top ten? LIKE IT sucks because this happened in the manga and we never got to see it in the anime or vice versa ... ?"

Can't list 10, but I'll try :P
In support of the manga, obviously which is so much better than the anime.
1. The manga has no voices. DBZ has the worst dub ever made, by far. The voices sound like people they picked off the street, even now. Chris Sabat voices half the male voices on the show. He himself said that they purposely make minor characters sound goofy -_-
2. The manga's unedited. No Hercule instead of Mr. Satan, no cowboy talk from Tenshinhan, Freeza wasn't made gay, etc...
3. No Garlic Jr. nonscense.
4. None of that stupid music (don't care much for the jap music either)
5. The filler that makes DBZ so bad isn't there. No 40 episode fight between Goku and Freeza. No stupid episode with Goku and Piccolo driving. None of this Marron crap. None of those lame flashbacks (many that go only a few episodes back)

I find quite a lot of the DBZ filler to have more character development in it than some of the actual sagas. Just my opinion, but hey.

The manga has no filler and is a tad bit more graphic.
For example, in the Saiyan Saga when Tienshenhan got his arm cut off, it had a lot of gore pouring out of it, whereas the anime had just a stub.

1) As Artemis mentioned, the manga is more gorey, making the effect of the scene look a little cooler, IMO(the scene where Cell gets killed by Gohan's kamehama ha is a prime example)
2) The manga flows nicely compared to the anime. The anime is so slow, and the reason is because Toei was trying to kill time so Toriyama could get more manga out(that explains the Freeza saga)
3) The manga is TRULY uncut. Most scenes with Bulma in the original Dragonball is proof of that. I recall looking at it on the internet(volume 8 of DB to be specific), and I go to the next jpg, and what do I see? ALL of Bulma....well, her top atleast.
4) The translated manga is true to the Japanese script in comparison to the Anime. It shows Goku's bad grammar and how naive he really is in comparison to the anime.
5) This is a point where I find the anime better than the manga,Lunch is in the finale. I will always disagree with how Toriyama added 17 in the mega genki dama against Buu and NOT put in Lunch. Toei did a good thing by adding Lunch along with other former DB characters like Upa, and Number 8.

[indent]A lot of it is available in your local comic store, Barnes and Noble, etc. and it is uncut.

Yeah, but the manga I was really referring to was Volume 8, which hasn't been released yet, I think. Planetnamek.com use to have the entire DBZ manga up(fan translated, of course), but they took it down because the cost of the website was too much to hold that material, and they also did it out of respect to Viz(the guys that translate DB manga). Sorry, but try looking for it on a search engine like Lycos or something. I'm sure someone stole alot of planet namek's stuff and has it on their website now.*shrugs*

[indent]Volume 8 may not be available yet, but it will be soon. Viz has been releasing them at a steady pace.

The filler also contributes to 99% of the show's plot holes.

Now that I think of it, you're right. It's just that I haven't had the money to buy the graphic novels in a long time  Do you know what volume Viz is on?
BTW, I recommend the Viz translation over the online fan version. Fan translations are no more than fansubs actually. The quality isn't half as good(IMO) and in some cases, cuss words seem to just fly out of there mouth in their everyday conversation! lol

Same thing in the Anime Labs subbed verison, alot of people seem to think that DBZ had alot of swearing in it, but the only words that were normaly said were "Damn" and "Hell".

[indent]I did some digging and Viz has released through Volume 7 in both the Dargonball and DBZ manga. It looks like Volume 8 comes out in February.
