View Full Version : Some Superman Questions

1. How come in the animated series Lois never found out that Clark was Superman?? Was there ever an explanation for why this happened??
2. Does anyone here watch Smallville? Personally, I see no reason to. I mean, we know Clark and Lex will grow up so why watch when they are young if we know that they will live no matter what. What suspense is there??
One last thing, I've lost touch of Superman since the Eradicator took over the Scientist's body (basically everything after Action Comics #700) so can someone let me know if anything big has happened in the Superman world?? Is there anything about the cyborg Hank Henshaw (I remember he brought back Doomsday once or something)? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

1. It was never really explained why, but it was still pretty early in Superman's career when the series ended, so I think it made sense.
2. I watch Smallville and I love it. What's interesting is that this is not Clark's childhood from either the comics OR the animated series, so we get a different version. That's like saying we shouldn't watch any of the animated series because stuff has happened in the comics. This is a different version, and it's obvious in a number of ways (Cloe exists, the "Clark-Lana-Pete" friendship thing isn't there, Lex is in Smallville, Clark fights some super-powered freak every week, etc.).
And just because they live doesn't mean things aren't interesting. I mean, I read Batman and Superman comics knowing full well that they'll live, or at least come back to life, because DC would never do away with them. Yet those are darned good comics.
And, finally, I can't completely sumarize everything that's gone on in the Super-books since then, 'cause I haven't been reading them that long. But I'd recommend picking up the Superman: No Limits and Superman: Endgame TPBs, then grabbing Emperor Joker, ACTION COMICS #775, Return to Krypton, and Our Worlds at War (bad crossover, maybe. Great Superman story, heck yeah).

Was the Dean Cain Superman series longer or shorter than the newer animated series?? I recall that Lois found out Clark's identity in the Dean Cain series so if this series is shorter, then I ask that same question in my original post.
The reason I stopped watching Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was because there wasn't enough action for me. When I heard that he wouldn't wear the suit in Smallville, I assumed the same thing. Is this Smallville A LOT better than the Dean Cain one?? Is there a lot of action??

It doesn't matter how long each series was. Lois figuring out his identity kinda ruins it anyway. Clark shouldn't be letting her hang around Superman so much.
Smallville is way better than Lois and Clark in terms of action, suspense, good dialogue, interesting storylines, production value, and overall plausibility.

Here's something else that crossed my mind: Does Superman have a lot of villains?? Yes, there were quite a few on the Animated Series, but when it comes to the comics and movies, I don't remember that many. I remember Lex Luthor, Parasite, Darkseid, and Brainiac as the only villains in both the comics and the Animated Series. Am I leaving out any villains?? Please let me know.

Personally, I never found Superman's villans very interesting, with the exceptions of Lex Luthor, Darkseid, and Brainiac. The majority of Superman villans never seemed to stick in my mind as truly "evil". I dunno, guess I read too much Batman, but...

LOL, don't worry. I like the Batman series WAY more than the Superman series. I liked the Superman Animated Series a lot more than the comics. To be honest, I really don't see Luthor as a villain, just as someone who's jealous of Superman.

I agree as well. I love all of Batman's villains (well almost all) and his rouges gallery is and always will be number one. Superman's villains just don't interest me, the one's you mentioned being the only decent ones.

I have to dissagree with you about Lex Luthor being a villian. I think he's probably one of the most purely evil major villians in the DC Universe.(I'm assuming you're talking about comics here)
Batman has better villians but they all have some aspect of madness that drives them. Luthor is perfectly sane.He knows the difference between right and wrong, he just doesn't care. The smallest slight against his pride is justification for murder. He threw away his own daughter for a promise of power. There isn't any softer side to him, nothing warmer under the surface. He's just always looking for a way to twist the knife in a little deeper.

Actually, I'm talking about the Animated Series (I haven't followed the Superman comics too closely so I knew nothing about a daughter he had). Every time I saw him, it seemed like he was jealous of Superman because he wanted to be numero uno. It looked like he tries to come up with ways to take down Superman (but they malfunction and go after him too like Bizarro). I just see him as a rich jealous guy, no villain.

In that case, You're absolutely right. Lex was a weenie. Mercy was more interesting." Just a stray." I liked that angle.
