Well, 17 cents will get you a copy...but then again, maybe not. Many retailers across Canada have been ignoring the Canadian price on the comics, selling it for the American price, or nothing at all. Retailers see this comic as a great chance to draw in business - and are doing what they can to make sure that new readers are brought in. The comic/enternainment store Gamezilla in Moncton, New Brunswick bought over 10,000 copies, while the other comic store in Moncton, Mad City Comics, ordered a lower amount of books.
And getting new readers in Canada is much harder than getting a new reader in America.
Why?
The Canadian prices are much sometimes, sometimes more than double the American price. For example, if a new comic reader wants to pick up the next part to the Bruce Wayne: Murderer story, it's gonna cost them $4.25. This comic is a big gamble for retailers, but it can also work out substansially. New additions to the Bruce Wayne: Murderer will cost either $3.50 or $4.25. Batman #600 will cost fans a huge $6.25.
Since it's release on Friday, copies have shown up all over this province, as well as others. Fans are reporting seeing copies in their local newspaper. Also, comic stores have donated comics to grocery stores and convenience stores in hopes of attracting new business.
The effects of this Batman event won't be felt for a month or so yet, when the comics are ordered or re-ordered, retailers will know for sure if Batman: The 10 Cent Adventure has brought in some new readers...
