I dunno, I know there was A batman ep...(I've seen them all...and I needed sleep. >=p )
Yes, for the 1st time since I was small......I slept through Midnight...
Yeah, I'll probably die or something.

I stayed up for the 10:00 pm show, only because they showed a Samurai Jack episode at 11:30 (what drooling fangirl wouldn't want to ring in the New Year with him?) :bosko: I was still worked up after watching it, so I watched a little of Toonami's "New Year's Evil" marathon. "Majin Buu" was the biggest vote getter (about 46,000, I think). I turned it off after 15 minutes and a Croissant Pocket.
DBZ ain't my cup o' tea.

Majin Buu has only been on a few episodes, yet he gets the most votes. That make no sense at all.
One of the things you missed was the final episode of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Can you tell us unfortunate people who missed it what happened in the last episode of Mobile Suit Gundam?
I.R Joey

Well the last episode basically revolved around Char and Amuro fighting it out as the war draws to an end. Amuro is basically after Char for dragging Lala into the war. So they duke it out using their psychic abilites and their mobile suits. Finally Sela convinces the 2 of them that they shouldn't fight and that the Zabi family is the true evil. Then Char goes and blows up lady Cassilia with a bazooka.
Meanwhile Whitebase is under siege, and the crew are fighting like crazy, Amuro uses his his telepathy to tell them how to get out of their situation. They leave just as the whitebase blows up. Everyone cry's cuz they think he's dead. Suddenly the kids start laughing and seemingly giving directions to an imaginary person. The adults try to quite them but then they realize that it's Amuro escaping in a spacecraft. Then the narrorator ends the show sayign that the war has come to an end.
And it was sad the Buu got so many votes. Even more shocking was Raditz getting so many, I personally think Vegita was cooler, heck even Freeza was. But at least my boys Kagato and Char got their props.

Raditz was cool, a true villian. He takes Kakarotto's son, beats up Kurrin with a swish of his tail and came very close to killing Son and Piccolo.
And the correct words for Char and Amuro's abilities are Newtype powers

They still have to air 0083, then comes Zeta. But the next series that they're dubbing is G Gundam.
I was very happy that they finally aired the last ep, and while it might have been nice to see the two or three that came before it but never got aired, well at least I've seen the end.
Buu might have gotten extra votes...cause people want to see the new eps (but CN can't air them yet...)
That's probably part of the reason. On the page that had the ballet, the pic for Buu was one of the later versions, so people might have voted for him thinking they'd get a sneak peak. As far as I know Funi hasn't even given CN any new DBZ ep's yet.
I'd say the other reason he got so many votes was because he's the newest DBZ villain and as such he hasn't had indefinite repeats yet.

Well, Gundam X uses Newtypes. Newtypes were explained in U.C. Gundam, so that's why I say that

And Gundam X kind of, sort of has it's own explanation of what Newtypes are. Besides, I saw most of it before I started the UC stuff, and I understood what was going on.
After G's been dubbed I think they'll do Zeta. Then X, then ZZ, then Turn A, then... well F-91 and Victory.

I think it's obvious though why G was chosen- the success of DBZ. G has action, but it also has a good plot (Domon searching for the Devil Gundam, how the Gundam Fight is destroying Earth)

There is a reason why they might show Turn A earlier than V or ZZ. It has slicker animation, and that always goes over better with the suits. On the other hand, several of the first 25 episodes have almost no action, so some it wouldn't quite fit into the Toonami mold.
We'll see. I'll give my Turn A DVDs another spin before I can come to a conclusion about how that show will probably be handled.
Notice that I'm not going by how I think Bandai will release it, but CN. I'm inclined to think that CN will be the ones who ultimately decide what airs first, which in turn will affect the video/DVD release. By that, I think that the order will be like this:
G, G-Saviour, X, (possibly Turn A), Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack, F-91, V.

I really want them to dub Turn A last. It has components from all the other Gundam series, so it should be the last one done.

I'd like that to, but I doubt it will ever happen. Bandai dubbed Wing first, thus spawning groups of fans who reckon that it is the greatest Gundam series ever, flame those that don't agree, and reckon MSG, 08th, etc were based on Wing. Maybe in the future, once they've all been dubbed and if we're really, really lucky, CN might do a Gundam Week, showing MSG-Turn A.

I would not be surprised if Toonami is loony enough to air CCA before Zeta or ZZ. They've done worse.
G-Saviour, yep, I bet it'll air around mid-2002.
Turn A does have components of the previous Gundams, but it's more of a homage than anything else. Turn A really doesn't elaborate on how the universes are connected. So I consider it more of a short salute to its 20 something year history.

i THINK we're forgetting about the Midnight run, seriously we could have one series air during the midnight run, and another air during the afternoon run. That seems to make sense because we could cover more ground.
BTW would anyone else find it somewhat sad if Gundam X gets a bunch of praise from Toonami fans, who scorned the original MSG?

I'm still puzzled on how Zechs had more votes then Char, they were pretty much the same character.

Right now I suspect that Bandai will alternate between UC and Alternate until they're all done. It's just that we have no clue as to what comes next until Bandai announces it.
I also suspect that the alternates will make the afternoon Toonami run, but the rest of the UC series will be Midnight run exclusive
I'm inclined to think that CN will be the ones who ultimately decide what airs first, which in turn will affect the video/DVD release.
It's the other way around, CN and Bandai negotiate for what CN will air. But ultimately CN can only air what Bandai has dubbed, and only Bandai decides what will be dubbed. Besides Bandai put their foot down and told CN that they couldn't air any of the UC series until MSG was shown. If CN was in charge don't you think they would have tried to show Zeta or ZZ instead?
I'm still puzzled on how Zechs had more votes then Char, they were pretty much the same character.

I for got to vote. :(
But I think the reason people scorned MSG was because of its poor and old style animation. If they had made a remake with modern animation, it would have been much better.
The story is very involving, but the animation is all just cut and pasted and the Gundam makes the exact same movements every time it is launched, etc.
It reminds me of Scooby Doo, where the animation of the running characters is the exact same every time.

Mr. O: Honestly, if CN had the choice, I would think that Zeta and ZZ are the *last* ones they'd air. They are rather unimpressive for many of today's audiences, from a visual standpoint. Which brings me to...
Majin Vegeta: Actually, I think the MSG story would be vastly different if re-animated and storyboarded to today's sensibilities. Yes, part of this is nostalgia, but I think the pacing and structure would not make it stand out as a historical curiosity as much.

Then that would be changing one of the themes of Gundam- war is hell. If the heroes were always so quick to violence, it would show them as uncaring and un-humane.

You know under consideration I have come to the conclusion that though Zech was copied from Char, they are in fact somewhat diffrent. I mean Zech I believe is more hidden and driven by a sense of honor (well until the last few eps I think.) While Char is more like Odyseus from Homer's epic, he'll do whatever kind of underhanded thing he has to if it will get him to his ultimate goal.
Zech always goes into battle making sure that he is always superior or at least equal to his opponents. Char will go into battle with a handicap and then out calculate or manipulate his opponent through his actions or words. I mean he played Amuro like a patzy a bunch of times.
Zech seems a little more flamboiant with the things he does. While Char is more of a person who rely's on guile and calculated thought.
There are more but that's my list for now.
Leaping Larry Jojo
01-03-2002, 10:08 PM
In other words, Zechs is stupid and Char is smart. End of story. :D
Actually, Char does have a twisted sense of honour (his treatment of captives, his love for Lalah Sun--a "mother" figure and sort-of lover to him...), but his motivations are far more complex than Zechs'. Zechs is more or less driven by ideals, while for Char, everything is personal.
Honestly, the whole look and idea behind Zechs really originates from Char. The helmet, the good looks, the charisma...
Except that Zechs is really quite stupid and Char is smarter. :D

the last thing Gundam needs to be like is DBZ, Gundam is not an all out fighting series with little to no depth...

I was dissapointed, overall, with the lack of Batman in the marathon. Clearly they could have fgiven us two episodes, or maybe even throw in a Superman, or even Batman Beyond episodes. I guess the votes just didn't work in Batman, Superman, and Terry's favor. But enough with the over-excessive DBZ.
