While the ratings themselves are only adequate, it's nice to see GitS on the uptick at least. Interesting to see anime win the night. It doesn't seem as though either action or comedy in the first hour really creates a winning night. Saturday night is just a crapshoot with 18-34s.

Andrew T. Hingson

And that week was a rerun so you might say the reruns don't do as well as the premieres when it comes to Boondocks.
EVA got on the top? I'm really rather surprised by this. GitS beat FMA? Well in the long run that could be good since GitS is going to be in premieres quite a bit longer than FMA will be now since ya know FMA is almost done.

Because ratings were pretty bad due to people not watching. I'm guessing that you were one of the folks not watching considering that the first hour has been comedy since late December.

The Cartoon Cartoon Show was moved to a different slot quite awhile ago. One Piece and Dragonball Z have been airing in the 10pm hour.

As of right now the expansion will only affect the weekday slots. I haven't seen any word on what show (or shows in the case of 15 minute originals) might fill that time though. I am guessing it won't be anything new at least for now.

Although I have a feeling that it will probably end up being Home Movies, I'm hoping that extra slot goes to Space Ghost Coast To Coast. I mean some of the episodes haven't played on TV in years and would be a good gesture to the fans. But I doubt they'll do that, espically since whatever they're putting will need to get at least semi good ratings between 10:30-12:30 (depending on where they put it on the block). Guess we'll just find out when the time comes won't we?

Acutally I am one of the people who were very angry they even switched to a lead in on saturday and just wanted to get an extra jab in. I have been watching Adult Swim since cowboy bebop's first run, and I used to watch midnight run before that, so please no more shots in the dark, plus it really wouldn't matter if I was a babe fresh off the street my first post ever, my point is still valid.
I think the problem is AS is commited to short term ratings, that is the major problem with television also, if something isn't an instant hit, it gets the can. It creates lousy shows, and it causes good shows that did not catch on fast enough or got lousy timeslots to be canceled prematurely. In AS case, it has caused people like me to stop watching the block, I watch shows on Adult Swim, I do not however, watch Adult Swim. That is the problem, the soloution would be to focus long term on building an audience for shows, instead of programming for the lowest common denominator short term. That means not screwing with the schedule after 6 weeks, or whatever it was, I bet if they left it all action the ratings now would be higher then they are. Adult Swim really only has 2 blocks, they are not comedy and action, they are Adult Swim fresh, and Adult Swim mold covered, hard as a brick stale.

While it turns out that I did misinterpret your post, it is easily read as a question and not a jab. Jabs/sarcasm don't necessarily come through too well when written out (such as on the internet). I'm sorry I read too much of the wrong thing into it though.

Eh. Its not like they can jump from CN owning 10/10:30 into airing the Boondocks at 10. They'll probably be wanting to transition that spot with more 'family friendly' AS programming, like Futurama, American Dad, heck if they ever do get that Simpsons licesnse the spot would be great for that as well. It'd be interesting to see if Home Movies or Baby Blues sneak into that spot at one point or another (though the chances of that happening are slim to none I suppose). Still the two are rather mild in compairison to the rest of AS's library.

It is hurting saturday in that there was a distinct drop in audience for it every week followed by a rise in audience for the next show(FMA). It was taking away viewers for that half hour who watched both shows.
Now that VB is on saturday, the sucesful boondocks is replaced with S&H? And now we see the anime coming in first on a satuday with an hour of comedy two weeks in a row, somthing which has never happened before.
It constantly did worse in a timeslot where it should have done better. That's why I`m saying it.

IIRC, the first five episodes are basically the first chapters of the manga stretched out beyond one's imagination with about 80% padding thrown in.
The Situation in the first half of the first episode, and the ending of the one with the guy with the big fist were one situation over the first few manga chapters. For unknown reasons, the anime decided t would be fun to delay the plot for meaningless filler.
Here's a quick tell to how slow the anime is compared to the manga:
In the manga, Legato appears in volume 2.
In the anime, he first appears in episode 12. End of V2 of the manga= episode 16 of the anime.
But it's not really fair, since the trigun manga is actually still running in japan, and the story has well expanded beyond the part the anime touched upon. not to mention the weakening and replacement of a few charachters in the anime that are still alive in the manga. It' a shame that the anime is mostly based on volume 1, and condensing the events of volumes 2-5 in the same amount of time alloted for V1 + Filler, and making their own ending to boot.

Robot Chicken, as in the actual cyborg chicken from RC's opening, saving a boy from drug peddlers, and THEN giving each other high fives?
Along with the 80's TMNT ad where the Turtles get a kid to say to the elmentary school drug pedler "I'm not a chicken, YOU'RE A TURKEY!"-
-BEST ANTI-DRUG COMMERCIALS EVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!
P.S.
IRONICALLY, the TMNT ad was only "good" beacause its so laughable, and the TMNT rock and it was the 80's, so its only "good" because its Accidentally-Funny, Nostalgic, and slightly cool as long as you don't tell that to an adult if you yourself happen to be an adult.
P.P.S.
IRONICALLY, the Robot Chicken is NOT just funny for making fun of those cheesy and often unrealistic anti-drug ads, like pot making a girl a 2-D person because she "doesn't do anything anymore"...
...but for...
...well...
...you KNOW...
...
....
.....
......that a giant chicken who's 1/2 robot who looks like he'll could and will kill teenage drug peddlers would probably motivate kids not to drugs BETTER than the real anti-drug ads......
.......and its good to know since AS's beginning that kids watch AS, so that way they'll see the commercial.......
........so Adult Swim is HELPING THE WORLD! ACCIDENTALLY!

Perhaps, perhaps not. Even at #4 for the week, VB's ratings could have been higher than the #1 show for Saturdays in previous weeks. Numbers 1 through 3 were only 60,000 a part, VB may not have been far behind.

You can if you want but Venture hasn't made the top 3 once since it's return and it's on at 11PM where Futurama did great and Boondocks did pretty well. Venture Brothers is the only show that hasn't been in the Top 3 though. Even Eva and Bebop have gotten in there. That means its been consistently below everything else, even when everything else sucked.

True, but its certainly not a good sign when at least 3(and based on the ratings for the past few weeks, possibly all 5) shows beat the leadin.
Think of how those shows could be doing with a strong leadin, for example. I mean, Strokers at least 17,000 over Venture, and possibly a lot more, and FMA is nearly 50,000 viewers ahead of Stroker. VB is probably doing more harm then good to the Saturday lineup. With Boondocks or Futurama those ratings could be a lot better.

Except that with Boondocks they weren't really better.

Hooray for FMA. Boo for Sleep Alone Complex.
Hmmmm...now that I think about it, perhaps the major does have a sleep alone complex...I mean, I never see her sleeping with anyone...
You know, looking at the weekday ratings, it looks like Futurama has lost quite a bit of its steam. It used to be about equal to the ratings for Family Guy. Now it seems that it has a 200,000 to 400,000 drop off in ratings from Family Guy. I guess losing Futurama to Comedy Central won't be that big of a loss.
Venture Brothers is the only show that hasn't been in the Top 3 though. Even Eva and Bebop have gotten in there. That means its been consistently below everything else, even when everything else sucked.
You say that for all we know its right below the top 3, but its just as likely that Eva and Bebop both have higher ratings then Venture Brothers.
You know, last week people were saying Stroker and Hoop was killing the ratings, and look, this week it's on the top 3.
By the way, am I the only one who's kind of happy that the comedy ratings are down since it makes the action ratings look less bad in comparison?

Good for Stand Alone Complex. This season has been a lot better than the first (as in it's coherent and somewhat less chatty), and I'm glad it seems to be catching steam.

Hey I'm all for being optomistic about Venture's performance but it's clear it isn't doing anywhere near as well as it did in previous runs and like Kuwaba-kun just said. It could be dead last instead of 4th.

God. Boondocks has lost nearly a third of their audience. I wonder if AS is reconsidering that 20 episode pickup.
why? other than wasted budget I guess it shouldn't be regrettable to stick with a show they seem to love right?
If I'm not mistaken, ATHF was ahead of Oral, not the other way around.
I'm sorry it was but its fixed now
You can if you want but Venture hasn't made the top 3 once since it's return and it's on at 11PM where Futurama did great and Boondocks did pretty well. I love VB but I don't think it's ratings are gonna get better until season 2 premieres. They've played those 13 episodes once a week several times and it's gotten old.
yeah the reruns are old especially on Saturday so why act surprised and claim it so dead  its also only been on the schedule for 3 weeks up to last nights ratings report and we all know how long it takes saturday viewers to get settled in
by the way the weekday ratings cards might be every week now  at least thats what the card implied to me so I better learn to speed type faster?

Its been a few years since I read this one interview of the director of the Trigun anime, or someone else involved, so I don't remember all the details, but I remember it saying the director trying to stay away from the dark material as long as possible (I forget if he was going through something at the time, or he just preferred a more light-hearted series). The other people on the staff had to keep bugging him about needing to get to the nitty gritty of the story of the rest of the manga.
That's why the series pulls a 180 around the middle and gets dark. This is why its a miss-or-hit, love/hate moment for alot of fans. Ironically, alot of fans love it, since it kinda throws a puch at them, really driving home the impact of the true nature of Vash's predicament.
IRONICALLY, I guess it kinda works out for people who didn't like the anime AND some fans of the anime:
1) The people who didn't like it could check out the manga to see if they like that better.
2) Fans of the anime who liked either the 2nd 1/2 of the series or both 1/2's would probably enjoy the darker, better paced manga.
P.S. Heard of the new Trigun movie that they'll start working on in a few years? I wonder how they'll handle that, if its just a standalone story, or they super-condense the manga or show. I can't imagine it being a continuation since the anime's been over for almost a decade, and was on late at night (in both countries) that wasn't all that popular in Japan in the first place.

All I gotta say is, what the bloody heck happened to the weekday ratings? Are people finally getting tired of nonstop Family Guy/Futurma?

that's a good question. I was wondering about the movie as well, but until a site is put up about it, I`m putting it in the same pile as Live action evangelion and all those live action anime movies they say will be made but we never hear about again.
Trigun and Samuai Deeper Kyo are alot alike in this respect. They're both extremely long running manga in japan( SDK recently went over 300 chapters) that got shortchanged in getting only 26 episode anime series that cut the stories off before or just as they really got going.

if the Trigun manga is that popular to keep going on so long then how did the anime get such poor treatment  even though I like the anime if theres a whole lot more content then a proper remake is needed :(

I have a question, I've been following the Saturday's airings of EVA, and I just watched my tape of it today, and I was wondering why is the Eva's bleeding, I thought they were just robots, I think I missed something important in the begining episodes when they explained the Eva's.

They were created in the image of Adam. In essence, they are modified clones of the first angel, Adam. (aka the glowing Eva-thingy that appeared when they keep flashing back to Antartica)

Alright, that clears up that question, but raises another, last episode, or the one that aired on Saturday said when the Angel was attacking that Adam was underneath the base, is something that will be explained later or did I miss something.
Sorry but these questions, but for whatever reason I find this show hard to follow at times. Its good, but oh so confusing.

Remember the episode where Misato got drunk and had a heartfelt talk with Kaji? And then later in that episode she orders Kaji to open the secret door in Terminal Dogma, only to find the giant white creature with the mask on its face and spear on its chest (you'll see it again this week)? That's Adam.
Oh, and for those who have seen the rest of the series, do NOT spoil anything relating to what I just said.

Well, you've seen Adam already, even in the Saturday airings. It was in the episode 15, when Shinji & Gendo visited Yui's grave, Asuka & Shinji kissed, and Misato, Ritsuko, and Kaji visited the friend's wedding.

Wait, what, I remember that episode but not that scene for some reason, but since it appears this week again I should be alright.
Thanks for clearing this up for me:)
PS. Like the new avatar Duke, it looks like someone from Seed, but can't place who.

Nope. No reason at all.
Well, aside from me forgetting to do it.
You know, they should've had that guy who lost his arm in Episode 1 (and tries to get revenge in Episode 2) be the major evil bad guy during the final 3 instead of the boat ship guy. That would've been awesome.
Y'know, Mugen never DID get that nookie...
I had forgotten the bamboo fight was in this episode.
