i've been a major fan of the DCAU since "on leather wings" now i have a problem.
Four batman TAS sets and two Superman sets to choose from, whats a good one to buy first? I've tried looking at the episodes, but i liked a lot of them :( in any case, any recommendations?

So far the set I have watched most by far is the second set for BTAS. It just has a lot of good episodes that are fun to watch over and over. Some examples; Robin's Reckoning Pt 1 and 2, The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy, Almost Got im, The Laughing Fish, Joker's Wild, and Heart of Steel Pt 1 and 2. Hope that helps.;)

I'd suggest starting with either the first Batman set or the first Superman set. You can't really go wrong with either and it's a good way to go through either series.
Have a good day.

I just buy them as they go on sale,
my first dcau set was BTAS Volume 3, for 6 bucks at target's big screwup last august.
Then i got STAS Vol.1 for for about 20 bucks.
Then i got BTAS Vol.4 for like 35, still need to get supes vol. 2 and then btas vol. 1 and 2.
Im trying to find a BJ's in my areas, cuz apparently the BTAS sets vol.1-4 are only 21 bucks there.

That's news.
Well... I just go along with it. First, I picked up Superman: The Animated Series - Volume 1 last February, and now I'm planning on picking up the first two Batman sets.

You really have to go by the episodes contained on each box set to decide. Everyone has their own personal favorites. All the box sets are unique and have their own flavor. The first BTAS set contains many of the greatest episodes of the series: On Leather Wings, Heart of Ice, TwoFace Part 1, Gray Ghost, Feat of Clay pt2. The shortfall of that set is that the extras are sparse with only 2 commentaries, the unaired pitch for the show put together by Timm&Radomski, and an 18 minute featurette on the show with comments from some of the top guys in the comic book industry like Mark Waid, Geoff Johns, and Dan Didio as well as the series creators. Also, the first set contains it's fair share of stinkers as the creators were still finding their legs. The second set has several classics as well: Perchance to Dream, Robin's Reckoning, Laughing Fish, Almost Got 'Im, Harley&Ivy. It also has the best extras of any of the sets with 4 commentaries and 3 featurettes. The downside is that the second box set has by far the worst animation of the series. There are no TMS shows(though they did layouts for H&I) and only Robin's Reckoning is by Spectrum, my favorite studio. There's a lot of Akom(the worst studio) and a couple of Blue Pencil episodes that are just painful to watch. Even a classic like Laughing Fish suffers from some pretty bad animation and Almost Got 'Im has a black dot running around onscreen throughout the entire episode. Very distracting. The third set has by far the best animation. 3 TMS episodes and then Dong Yang takes over to give the shows a very uniform look. The third set also contains all the episodes of The Adventures of Batman&Robin so if you're into the show after it was forced to change by management mandates this could be the one for you. The final set is the New Look Batman show that Mr. Timm loves so dearly. There are some great shows here: Over the Edge, Mad Love, Old Wounds. Many can't stand the redesign, but if you like it I'd recommend getting this set. Personally, I've enjoyed both Superman box sets more than the Batman ones. It's a better show, IMHO, overall than BTAS and you get lots of gorgeous TMS animation. It's really all comes down to personal preference. Take care!

I say pick up the sets that have your most favourite episodes in them first. If you still can't make up your mind, then pick them up as they were released.

I'm guessing wrong price tag. Happened to my brother at Blockbuster. He got Burnout 3 for $9.99 instead of $49.99 price :p.
I couldn't believe it until I saw it myself!
Try circut city when these episodes first come out. I got Batman TAS Vol. 3 & 4 (not at the same time though) for $30 and Superman TAS Vol.2 for $20. BTW when I first come out, I mean right when they comeout that week, do not wait till the week after.
P.S. psifreek28 damn you got lucky

Target sent out a huge errored up code of upc's and a bunch of Warner titles all got an errored up 5.99 price tag.
Band of Brothers,The O.C,Sopranos,Friends,Batman TAS Vol.3,etc
it was up for about a week. i did get pretty lucky.

Yes
When I bought my sets I bought them out of order. I had S1 of Superman:TAS for about 4 months before I even considered buying Batman volume 1. I was just watching the DVD trailers on the DVD and realized Batman had been out on DVD for a while and volume 3 was about to be released.

I try to buy them as them come out. I have not seen all of the episodes but what's not to like? I know that I want them all because besides all of the good stories, there are a lot of references to older stories in the newer ones.
If you're on a budget, I'd recommend buying the oldest set first, the first Batman set, I guess. As you watch through it, you can save up to buy the next oldest release, etc. Each newer one should drop in price as time goes by and you have enough saved to buy the next one.
