View Full Version : Batman collectors: What's better to have MOC or loose figures???
I personally think that's better to have the figures displayed along with the vehicles ect and the Batcave. I have an entire rogue gallery displayed behind the Arkham gate which came with the Arkham Escape 4 Pack and the heroes are also displayed in the Batcave along with the two vehicles. But I also plan to get a MOC collection and hang all of them on the "wall of fame" ;)

Definately loose. I like to open 'em up and display 'em. And yes. Sometimes I PLAY with them. :)
But I would only BUY loose figures if they were in reasonably good condition and had all their accessories. I plan to re-paint most of my figures since Hasbro did a lousy job the first time, so I wouldn't care if I bought a loose figure that had some chipped paint.
Yes I remeber those playing days...
When I was 12, I recreated each BTAS episode and I had real blast:) My favorite episode to recreate was "Dreams in darkness" I guess I just loved to have my Combat Belt Batman beat the crap out of the Scarecrow. :D
Sometimes I still feel like playing with them but I simply can't do anymore...dunno why...

yeah, its been a while since i really played w/ my batman toys (or any toys). I havent displayed my sets in a while either, i use to love displaying all my villians. Now all i have on my shelves (that are batman related) is a tnba batman bust, the lotdk batman (the blue one w/ the big cape), and tas joker (laughing gas) and harley. and on top of my computer i have the one good batman beyond batman figure, the one w/ the cape/gliders and booster rockets (for some reason i forgot the name). and thats it, even though i have a whole crap load more in my closet. i take them out and admire them from time to time, they're so cool to look at. its weird how you can hold them and move them, and in your head you're thinking of the character from the series and how you relate to it. yeah, those bat action figures are great. i'll stand them up from time to time like on my floor or desk and just look at them. well that was a sad story, but i'm sure you can all relate. peace.

what's the point of getting these toys if you aren't going to take them out of the package? a friend of mine has a room full of figures, Batman, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc., and they're ALL in the package. i can understand keeping the Robin Dragster in the box, seeing that it's worth about $500 now, but as for the rest i'd have to open those things up and display them loose. as for my own room, i'm running out of space so they have to be kept in my closet :( maybe one day i'll line 'em up in a case for display or play, but for the time being the boxes full of the loose figures will have to do....

I remember when I oppened all of my figures. And I loved them too. Just don't play with them. the paint wore off so much on my figs..it's not even funny.
I do have a couple MOMC figs, but only ones I really liked (IE: Old Batman figures, or some Batman Beyonds). I say, for superhero figs, open em'. But, if I bought any new figs, I'd probably keep them carded..just the way I am..I can't bare to open up my Spawn V.. :)

It just completely depends on the figures. I don't really "play" with my toys anymore. Sometimes, a figure is just so cool, I gotta rip 'em open and display him in some cool position somewhere. But sometimes the figure is cool, but doesn't have much poseability - so I don't take it out of the package. Or sometimes I prefer the packaging almost more than the figure itself, and will leave the figure packaged, and display it in its box.
I think that also depends on the box or the card. The first BTAS figures all looked awesome on their cards with the orange background, but when they changed the background into blue it didn't look that good.
The combat belt Batman looks awesome in his package but when you take him out of it and you wanna display him it's not so overwhelming.
I have a MOC and two loose Combat Belt Batman I display the loose ones with a Batarang (from the 12" collection) or the TNBA grappling gun.

As expensive as it sounds, if I have a figure that I'm itching to open and display I try to buy two. If they are rare then I usually search those vintage toy shops and try to buy them lower than its retail cost. But none of my 1992 BTAS figures are open. To me they carry both personal value and dollar value. Afterall, I am a huge Bat fan. From the many other toys I've collected in the past, Batman seemed to be the best that appreciated in dollar value. It just makes me appreciate my collection that much more. I'm very proud of my collection, and I do choose to have my figures MOC over them being opened and played with. Occasionally, especially with the newer toys, I open those up because they're easier to find. With my older toys, they stay carded and well preserved, displyed hanging on my walls.
Well it also depends on the price...I would never open up a MOC Penguin if I paid $30 or more for it.
I only open the cards if I got them for a cheap price. (like a Catwoman for $8, for example)

Loose! I can buy them for less, and I get the ones with damaged cards cheaper from the comic book dealers I frequent.

I prefer the figures loose too!! Although I am starting to wish that I kept my BTAS Penguin in his box way back when I got it. Oh well:)

Ordinarily I'd say (or rather "we'd say", as both my wife and I are big toy collectors!) that loose figures are much more fun, 'cos you can pose 'em, display 'em etc. But ever since I bought my first Batman Animated figure (Combat Belt Batman - the original, and still the best!), I haven't been able to take them off the card purely because the packaging looks so nice! So, what's a guy to do..?
BUY TWO!!!

I will always open my cards. Unless, of course, I'm buying the figure just for collection (many X-Men figures remain in the package to this day). I love displaying my figs alongside one another.
The boxes just all look ugly to me.

I open my figures so I can pose 'em and place them around my desk. They're just too cool to keep frozen in a block of plastic.
I've got some duplicates, but I bought them as future trading material. Now that I've got a 3 year old son who's playing with Batman figures, I find I'm unable to resist giving him mine every now and then. So my future trading material has become my stash so that I can keep some in mint condition for my old age.
I bought a Robin's Dragster, loose, very much played with, on Ebay for $15. To me, even mint in the box, it's just not worth even $100, so I'm glad I got the chance to get one opened. And now I feel no guilt playing with it.
And yes, I play with them. That's one of the great things about having a son. I used to "pose" them. But now I get to pose them while saying "pow!"
