Okay, the depression around here is really starting to bum me out. Considering I'm apparently the resident angry, defensive little hedgehog around here (thanks James >poke<), I figured I'd try something counter-intuitive and make a warm and fuzzy thread, for a change. There are plenty of threads dedicated to the suckage that is the apparent departure of the Timmverse, anyway.
So, anywho, in spirit of being spiteful and contrary just for the sake of doing it, I decided to go and make one that highlights the good things about an animated universe that has spanned fourteen years. I'm not sure, but I think I actually might be bored/interested (okay, fine, bored) enough to compile a list of facts and tidbits about the Timmverse. But aside from that, let's make this a nice, festive event! What were all of your favorite moments? Favorite lines? Favorite team-ups? Villains? Plots? Hairstyles? Whatever. It's all fair game; let's just enjoy ourselves with retrospective conversation and all that nice stuff.
To start off, one of my favorite lines:
"...And you hit like a girl."

A few favorite moments:
Flash taking out Brainthor.
The entire first half of Legacy.
The final scene in Epilogue mirroring the first in On Leather Wings.
The third act in Pretty Poison, particularly for that hauntingly beautiful musical score as the trees went up in flames. Mmmm.
"I threw a rock at him!"
The Late Mr. Kent. 'Nuff said.

You know, I'm glad this got started. I was thinking about this at work today- I'm sad to see the DCAU come to a close, but I'm also extremely happy that ALL of this came to be in the first place. So thank you to all the creators and to all of those who've worked on all the different shows over the years, you guys and gals should be proud of yourselves! Anyway, back on topic...
My favorite eps all time are as follows:
Heart of Ice
Over the Edge
Growing Pains
Legacy
Secret Origins
Epilogue
And my favorite line came from tonight's episode, it was very Flash:D :
"You gonna wash your hands?"
"No! Cause I'm EVIL!"

(Soaked by the falling rain, Bruce Wayne kneels at his parents' graves)
BW: It doesn't mean I don't care anymore. I don't want to let you down, honest, but... but it just doesn't hurt so bad anymore. You can understand that, can't you? Look, I can give money to the city - they can hire more cops. Let someone else take the risk, but it's different now. Please--I need it to be different now. I know I made a promise, but I didn't see this coming. I didn't count on being...happy.
(Lightning strikes, illuminating the unchanging, unrelenting grim faces of the tombstones)
Please. Tell me that it's okay.
(Andrea Beaumont appears by his side, with an umbrella)
AB: Maybe they already have. Maybe they sent me.
(They embrace. She drops her umbrella, and the rain washes over them. Fade from rain streaking down Bruce's relieved face to rain running down Batman's, as he watches Andrea from far off and ruminates on times past, when the future was wide open, and happiness was once within his grasp.)

I love -- LOVE -- how creepy Bane's lines in "Over the Edge" are. I was hoping for more of a fight. But what should I expect, from a killer of children. But here's three cheers for Keith David's extremely underrated take on Despero that I'm sure will fall back into notice once the DVDs come out. They should be taking a cue from this in the comics -- his reading of Despero's last line, Now I see... paradise, is sublime.
That said, whenever I'm bored or feeling a little down I like to pop in Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker, or one of many other countless episodes. Here's to 14 great years of the DC Animated Universe. Cheers.
Have a good day.

Lots to love about the DCAU!! Favorite additions to the Batman Rogue's gallery? Harley Quinn and the Condiment King!!! Both have been absorbed into the comic books. Love the witty dialogue the King used and how often he slipped in a condiment reference. Kudos to whoever wrote that scene!

CROC: Hun?
TWO-FACE: The way I figure it, Gordon's got a bunch of them stashed someplace like a SWAT team. He wants you to think it's one guy but. . .
JOKER: Eh. . . You're always seeing double.
PENGUIN: It's obvious our caped friend suffered some crime related drama when he was younger. Perhaps an over-anxious mother blew off a piece of his face.
JOKER: Sure! He could be all gross and disgusting under that mask! Uh, no offence, Harv.
TWO-FACE: Just deal.

Oh, that entire exchange was gold.
Lex: "No, you need me. Wouldn't be much of a hero without a villain, and you do love being a hero, don't you? The cheering children, the swooning women--you love it so much, it's made my most reliable accomplice!"
Superman: "Accomplice? What do you--"
Lex: "You could've crushed me any time you wanted, and it wasn't the law or the will of the people that stopped you. It was your ego. Being a hero was too important to you. You're as much responsible for this as I am! So go ahead; fix it somehow--put me in trail, lock me up--but I'll beat it. And then we'll start the whole thing all over again."
Superman: "I did love being a hero. But if this is where it leads, I'm done with it."
(Outside.)
Batman: "Do you smell something?"
(They rush in. Wonder Woman gasps.)
Batman: "It had to be done."
Wonder Woman: "Are you alright?"
Superman: "...I feel great."
Truly some great, scary stuff. Brown delivered such a great performance with that speech. It sounded the way speech bubbles in a comic should sound if they were spoken aloud, what with the various times he changes tone and emphasized certain words. It was wonderfully done. Clancy Brown is still God. :D

The exchange between Hamilton and Superman in Question Authority
Darkseid blasting Superman in Apokolips Now
How sadistic and crazy Poison Ivy was portrayed in her first appearance
"Harvey had to pay for his crimes"
"What crimes?"
"Why murder of course, pulling up a field of beautiful wild flowers for that silly pentientary of his. THE BLOOD OF THOSE FLOWERS ARE ON HIS HANDS!"
"So his fate was sealed...with a kiss. And now, so is yours..."

Clancy Brown and Kevin Conroy's performances are the highlights of the DCAU run. The characters would just not have been so alive without those exact actors in the roles. Their characters were likewise central to everything.
I still like Dr. Fate's line:
"Lex Luthor is saving the world," which of course, he did.

I'm currently compiling a list of all the VAs credited during the 'Timmverse' run. Holy crap, there's a lot. I'm not even halfway through BTAS yet and my hand-written scribbles are already exceeding two pages. I'd totally forgotten the first few episodes had a different VA for Alfred. Oh, and Heather Locklear??
Ah yes, and great random quote:

Cool beans! Are you including offshoot series like Static Shock and The Zeta Project? Are you going to compile it into one huge list, or group them by series?
Be sure to post it when it's done!

Be sure to post it when it's done!I'm not exactly sure yet. Possibly one huge list, maybe with some extra notes indicating how many series' they appeared in. Off-shoots will be included, because they are a part of Timmverse continuity, technically. Actually, I was only compiling the list to compare to the number of VAs other notable cartoons have had over the years, along with various other things like timespan, number of spin-offs (if applicable), number of DTVs/movies, etc.
Yeah, this is gonna take a while.

The Timmverse has been very good to all of us and to the world of animation. I admittedly haven't seen any of Superman: TAS and not a lot of Batman: TAS, but I've liked what I've seen of Batman, in particular the episodes revolving around Mr. Freeze and many of Harley Quinn's lines. Batman Beyond was a very mixed bag IMO, but I absolutely loved Return of the Joker Uncut. Katsushiro Otomo's animation was beautiful, and there was tons of powerful diolauge in that movie ("It's not Batman that makes you worthwhile. It's the other way around."). Justice League/Unlimited, the only DCAU show I've followed from the very beginning, is a favorite of mine, not without it's flaws *coughPatriotActcough*, but there are so many characters to fall in love with (Wally West's Flash! Green Arrow! Shayera Hol! The Question! Black Cannary!) and the ongoing storylines keep you watching. There hasn't been a superhero epic quite like it (although Teen Titans is, er, was a fun diversion), and hopefully Timm, Dini, and co. will make more exciting stories in the future.
My personal favorite episode of the entire DCAU: Divided We Fall.:tom:

- The Brainiac squid head showing up in "Divided We Fall"( Funny how months before that episode aired, on the Superman Vol.1 commentary Timm said how they thought of taking him to that level )
- "Terry...I've been thinking of something you once told me. And you were wrong. Its not Batman that makes you worthwhile...its the other way around. Never tell yourself anything different." - most touching line in ROTJ
-"I thought talking about it would get easier over time..but some hurts never go away." - A very nice line and delivery and lesson everyone learns
-"Well all you have to know is that its not you're apartment. It's mine now! - Parasite sounds so smug there
-"Yea should've known you wouldn't care. You're no Batman you whacked out old fraud!" - That was the first scene of BB that I saw and I had no idea that it was Batman related until that line came up
-"Now detective..are prepared to face your better." - One of Ra's Al Ghul's best lines
-"It ain't about the money boy..its about justice. And I aim to serve you some."

You know what influenced my the most of anything in the DCAU? Growing up on the mysterioso, minimalistic art deco stylings of the original 85 eps of B:TAS has really opened up all these other doors. It's lead me into learning about architecture and 1930s New York, the retroness got me into all this awesome stuff from back then that I never would have looked at otherwise.
And that show also gave me a respect and taste for great story-telling. It spoiled me. It really did. There hasn't been a show since with a level of sophistication that show had in terms of character. JLU has some pretty complex stories, but I think I prefer the self-contained "mini-movie" style of B:TAS.
Superman was great, I would rush home to see Batman Beyond every day after school for a year (I had to run to make sure I didn't miss the beginning).
It's really kind of sad, but still exciting, counting down to the very last episode. I know that LoS is coming, but from what we've seen, that is clearly not in the same tone and style of the DCAU, completely different stuff.
And now for some closure:
"Dear friends. . .Today is the day that the clown cried. And he cries not for the passing of one man, but for the death of a dream. The dream that he would someday taste the ultimate victory over his hated enemy. For it was the Batman who made me the happy soul I am today. How I agonized over the perfect way to thank him for that. Perhaps with a cyanide pie in the face. Or an exploding whoopie-cushion playfully planted in the Batmobile. But those dreams were dashed by the weaselly little gunsel sitting there in our midst. The cowardly insignificant gonif who probably got lucky when Batman slipped on the slime trail this loser left behind him. This mound of diseased hyena filth who's not fit to lick the dirt from my spats. . . ! But I digress. The time for sorrow has passed. It's time to look to a future filled with smiles. And I'll be smiling again just as soon as we take that man there and slap him in that box there and roll him into that vat of acid there! . . . We'll that was fun! Who's for Chinese?"

WHAT THE DCAU DID TOO ME
hehe
Well it saved me money....how you say? Well because of the show I don't buy comics or trades anymore. Because the stories in the show just blow them out of the water...plus their animated.
I also don't buy figures anymore. The only figures I have bought lately are those 10 inch JLU figures, and until that line is continued again I can't see myself getting anything after those.
hehe
The show is just too good...and timeless :)
I don't think we'll ever see anything like it again. So stop picking it apart and just enjoy it for what it is.
