Either that or millions of adults are enjoying Naruto, which is most likely not the case...

Naruto Volume 9 one of the Top 30 selling books for the week? That's not just huge, its phenomenol. By far the best showing for a manga ever, and pretty darn good for anything to sell that well.
Kenshin and Death Note both selling well, in addition.
Naruto volume 9 is out already? Dang, time flies! To the bookstore!
I'm pretty sure though, that Naruto's TV ratings are helping to boost the book sales significantly. Ever since the show started, my mall's Borders got a cardbord advert specifically for Naruto.

And as an added bonus, since Anime and mangas just for kids...
Explain how shrinkwrapped non held in mainstream booksellers BERSERK has really good sales. Eh Kahn?

And this is why I don't like Kahn as a business man in this particular industry - he doesn't know anything about it, but he talks like he does, and that's dangerous.

You know what, I just don't like Naruto. I try and try to get into it, but it just doesn't work for me. I like One Piece, Death Note, and Yu-Gi-Oh! however.
Speaking of Death Note, is there an anime series for it yet?

You're not alone, I don't care much for Naruto either, but news of its good sales do indeed warm my heart.
As for Death Note, it does not have an anime series that I know of. Yet. Though in my mind, a Death Note anime would be really hard, what with all the conversation in the series... Still, it'd be fun to watch them try.
I don't want to know what the filler would look like, however...

Very recently he stated that manga can never be successful in America because kids don't read (mistake #1: incorrect statement - "kids don't read", mistake #2: assumption that manga could only have success with children). So by having Naruto, Death Note, and Rurouni Kenshin appear on the Top 150 this week, with Naruto selling extremely well, he pretty much got served.
The final nail in the coffin would be for, say, One Piece to do this good. Or at least make it on the Top 150.

I'm surprised at how well Death Note is doing.

There's no anime, but there's a live action movie in production I think.

Yep, their is an LA film in production. No ETA that I know of off the top of my head, but it was announced last year, so their has probably been some progress on it.

No anime series in the pipes (yet), but there is an upcoming live-action film (http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/004903.html) by Tatsuya Fujiwara of Battle Royale fame.

It's Kahn, not Karl. Sorry, Karl.
At this point, I don't think that there's any question that Naruto will be the next Pokemon/Yu-gi-oh/DBZ. I wonder how big it'll get.

On a related note, I ended up getting the last copy of March's Shojo Beat from the magazine rack at the local supermarket, further proof that manga moves. I mean, if Shojo Beat can literally sell out in on a mainstream magazine rack, there has to be some kind of market.
Poor Al. He means well, I'm sure, but he just doesn't know this market.

Naruto is sure getting popular. Its just as well...
What would really help, is if Viz or 4kids gets more money from One Piece...
Preferrably Viz, seeing as how they're not the ones releasing horribly edited products. One Piece is tampered with in the localization department, but aside from that, yeah...

Does it really matter? We all know Kahn is wrong; all the librarians and publishers know Kahn is wrong, and while news like this merely proves it to us, that doesn't matter.
Kahn doesn't know his market, that's never going to change. He will continue to get lucky on a project every now and then regardless of how little thought, effort, or knowledge of the property goes into the final product, and this will keep him afloat for a good long time to come. Kahn will never realize his mistakes because he doesn't believe them to be mistakes and never will. His entire company is filled with pig-headed ignoramuses who truly believe that they're following the perfect business model, and that any failures that come about are the fault of the original property, not their own handling of the property.
So, constantly pointing out, "See? Kahn is wrong!" over and over gets us nowhere and is nothing to celebrate about because nothing will ever change.

Threads like these are like candy, you eat it because it friggin tastes good.

Sorry.
I just get the impression from threads like these that people think that Kahn will see it, and then wake up one day and say, "Golly gee... I sure was wrong about manga, and the way we dub anime... I think I'll do it right next time!".
All things considered, the fact that Naruto broke a manga sales record is an accomplishment unto itself, even without the evidence of Khan and foot-up-his-mouth syndrome.
Think of it this way - by Viz making more success with Naruto than 4Kids is with... well, anything they have, they'll take over the market and regulate 4Kids to being another Saban/Nelvana/DiC, seldom heard or seen from again.
Unfortunately, they'll probably die fighting. Pretty Cure will get a good dub? They will, like they did with Shaman King, go out of their way to ensure its failure. If it gets a bad dub, they'll go out of their way to ensure its success, but it'll still fail. They'll continue pushing blockbusters on 4Kids TV, hoping for another Pokemon, and when it doesn't happen, they'll merely attempt it again with another next big thing. Eventually, after inexplicably failing enough properties that couldn't be failed by any company in possession of a healthy dose of common sense, they'll be forced into calling it quits.
Of course, I hope that they're going to turn around. But they won't.

Maybe someone should send this link to M. Khan's office with a quote from his infamous adress and the mention that Naruto is manga XD.
I bet he's too bullheaded to realise he's wrong and 4Kids is FILLED with 'yes men' who don't dare question the boss' point of view and propagate it down to OTHEr yesmen under them and so on and so on all the way to the dubbers themself. Augh.

Great. Now you've got that frickin' song in my head again.
But yeah. I kinda figured for a long time that Kahn and his upper management were ignorant, and that this ignorance bled down to all levels, divided suqarely between self-preservation and the thought that they should know what they're doing because they make money.
I just didn't realize HOW ignorant. Good god. But, something like this, to see one of the manga kids aren't reading make it into the top 30? Warms my damn heart. Sooner or later, Kahn's ignorance is going to catch up with him, and in a way more profound than making an ass out of himself at an industry con (though that IS satisfying in and of itself).

Actually it most likely is the case that it's mainly adults. Kid sales alone are not enough for any Manga to sell that high. Of course it still ruined Kahns idea. Though if you ask me I think it's a good thing he and 4kids don't think kids read manga. I mean do we really want 4kids to pick up manga?

Speaking as someone who spends 5-10 hours a week at Barnes and Noble reading manga, I can honestly say that there are a LOT of little kids who have recently started buying the Naruto manga. (But, I also see a lot of kids buying Yu-gi-oh Duelist and the original)

However, what they get in the Yu-Gi-Oh manga is considerably more accurate than 4kids release, and yet, it doesn't seem turn the kids off from it at all. So even then, Al doesn't get it.

Actually, I'd say it's 99% adults, since most kids don't actually pay for it, their parents do. :P

I doubt 4Kids would pick up manga. They'll just mooch off the SJ brand like they've been doing.
