At the CN Upfront today (which I'm not sure how to make a straight out "Discuss this" from the news link), Ultimate Avengers 2 and Iron Man are headed to CN, most likely Toonami.
... yeah, Fantastic Four seems to be a shoe-in for the block.
Oh, yeah, the live-action Spider-Man flick will also air on CN. I'm betting a Fridays premiere followed by Toonami.

Got synopsis's for everyone for these flicks as well:
· Ultimate Avengers: Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, returns to the world after being frozen in ice for 60 years. He quickly realizes that this new and very different world is in need of heroes. With Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Giant Man and others, he forms the Ultimate Avengers. The animated feature is set to air in the spring.
· Ultimate Avengers 2: Captain America and the rest of the Ultimate Avengers return to battle with a new set of villains. This time, the events are more threatening than ever. Ultimate Avengers 2 is slated to air in the fall.
· Iron Man: Based on the Marvel Comics character, Iron Man tells the story of billionaire Tony Stark, an alcoholic and one of the world’s most imaginative weapons defense technology creators. When a powerful competitor almost succeeds in killing him, he must build a modern-day suit of armor to stay alive. As he becomes more agile and powerful, Stark decides to use it to fight crime as Iron Man. The animated feature is scheduled to air in the fall.
UA synopsis is no biggy obviously, but UA2 and Iron Man are new I think...

UA2...awesome!
I was aware of the Iron Man as well
the Marvel-Lion's Gate deal is for 7 DTVs, am I correct?
I wonder what the other 4 titles will be (obviously not Spidey, X-Men, or FF)
perhaps Daredevil/Marvel Knights?

I think Ultimate Spider-Man and some X-Men series based DTV is very possible actually. But we'll see.

Oh, yeah, the live-action Spider-Man flick will also air on CN.
I may sound like an idiot for saying this, but:
Holy friggin' crap, they're actually gonna put a PG-13 movie mostlikely uncut on CN ?!
I can't recall what Ace Ventura was rated, but I admit I was suprised when
they recently showed it.(Not that I've ever seen the whole movie, but you
see my point.)
This news though,just floors me.
I know Spidey is a fairly clean movie in and unto itself,(the worst things in it
are swearing, real life action, and some scenes involving life threatening situations),but still the last place I'd expect to see it is on CN.

Um... what about Batman airing TV-14-V on Toonami in November?
But to top that... Princess Mononoke will be airing on Toonami in March and that puts both Spidey and Bats to shame for violence content.
Today's CN is a very different beast than the CN of old.

And I'm not exactly sure that's a GOOD thing....
Anyways. I'm SO hyped about Iron Man! ...Just...keep him out of that horrific Ultimate suit? It looks like crap. Here's hoping an Iron Man TV series spins out of this....

It's both a good thing and a bad thing. You have to take the live action shows with the fact that they can now air higher rated shows at earlier times.

OK, maybe it's just me thinking this but if CN is gonna be airing all these Marvel DTV movies on their channel, then why the heck should we be wasting our $$ & buying these in the stores when we can tape em for free! I bought "AU1" when it came out the 21st but then I find out it's airing on CN in April so now I feel like the fool for buying it! How's Marvel & Lionsgate gonna make a profit out of these DTV movies if a few months after they come out in the stores, CN will be airing them on TV for free!? I could understand if CN was getting the rights to start airing them on their network sometime in 07, but to me, this makes no sense $$ wise for Marvel/Lionsgate to be doing.

The deals work out that it's more for Liongate/Marvel's benefit for airing the movies than CN. Yeah, CN gets ratings and advertisers... but L/M get tons of DVD sales as a result.
Shouldn't Fantastic Four have been announced at this show? Cartoon Network is supposed to be airing it, but nothing has been said. Is there still time, or should we be worried?

How does L/M get tons of DVD sales when now everyone can just tape the movie for free on TV! I've even heard posters saying that it's great cuz now they don't have to waste $$ buying it! The only way is if CN edits some scenes or the 2-3 cusses uttered in the film are edited out. Then maybe that will make people wanna buy the DTV movie. But if they show it unedited then there's really no reason whatsover that people will be going out in droves to buy the movie in the stores.

Fantastic Four was announced in the section about upcoming TV shows. Knux just didn't mention it in his post, presumably because he was focusing on the movies.
They didn't mention when FF would debut, however.
I'm not doubting you, Kuwabara, but is there a link to this anywhere online? :)

Also, some people like the extras/special features found on the DVD.
It's a pretty simple formula, for me.
DVDs > TV.
I honestly don't mind having to buy the DVDs, as I'd still do it anyway. I'm one of those people who will glady buy a DVD of a VHS I already own or have taped off TV. DVD is a superior product, I'll gladly pay to have it.

Although the Marvel DTVs are a welcome sight on CN, the Spidey movie is not. I mean this is CARTOON Network, not "Hey, Let's Air Live Action Movies Based on Cartoons Network". I'm sorry I had to say that but, I'm just saying the truth.

You would be in the minority that think this way. Common sense will tell ya that if someone is gonna go to all the trouble to tape the movie, they don't plan on buying it. You can always edit out the commercials as well while your taping it. Just hit the pause button & unpause it when it starts again so now you have a commercial free movie & you didn't pay a dime for it. Again, I think this will hurt sales on the next 2 movies cuz now everyone knows all they gotta do is wait for them to air on CN later in the yr.

I don't know. When CN airs it may not been in widescreen, it certainly won't be in 5.1 and you won't get (whatever pathetic amount there is) the special features the DVD has to offer. In addition to superior quality, you don't have to go through the hassle of editing out commercials yourself. To me, that's honestly not worth it. If I liked the film, I'd rather go buy it on DVD and watch it the way it was meant to be seen.
But, that's just me. I'm sure theres a ton of people who still record on VHS, however baffling that may be to me...

You just proved my point! They're not buying it cuz they plan on taping it now that they know CN is gonna air it. But if CN wasn't gonna air it at all anytime in the next yr or so, then they would have 2 choices, Buy it or rent it! Plus what I said was that he was in the minority that will buy the dtv movie even though he's gonna tape it. The majority of people that are gonna tape it when it airs don't plan on buying the movie nor will they be buying the other "UA" movie or I.M movie now that they know CN is airing them later in the yr. So I ask again, how is that financially smart for L/M to do? I taped Batman vs Dracula so I didn't have to spend $$ on the dtv movie! That meant WB didn't make a profit off of me. So neither will L/M by letting CN air their DTV marvel movies. I want these Marvel DTV movies to do so great in sales that we'll get 4 or more DTV Marvel movies every yr! But that can only happen if the sales are thru the roof & with CN showing the movies on TV for free, I just don't see how L/M are gonna make a profit?

Because people will buy the movies on DVD even though they saw it on TV and recorded it on VHS. Look at Family Guy. The show is rerun constantly on Adult Swim and there are plenty of chances to record it on VHS. Yet the DVD sells like hotcakes.

Family guy & the Simpsons are more universally known than Ironman, Dr Strange & the Avengers. Us comic fans are in the minority & even if every single comic fan bought the movies , it still wouldn't compare to the huge # of Simpsons/Family guy fans that way outnumber us superhero cartoon/comic fans. I've gone to my local Walmart & there's tons of unsold "UA" DTV movies & I have to wonder how much of that is due to people finding out that CN is airing it for free next month?

Then maybe I can chalk up the tons of "UA" at my Walmart as there being very few comic fans in Phoenix, Az?

I agree with that which is why I'm worried the video wont sell the projected 600,000 - 1,000,000 titles that Lionsgate is hoping it will. Eventhough these are popular characters they are popular withint a minority fanbase. But stuff like this is always iffy. Literally millions of people know about Spider-Man and Superman and Batman but that doesn't exactly mean it will translate to comic sales or video sales. About 15 million people watch The Simpsons every Sunday night but maybe 2 or 3 million people buy the DVD sets if that. Butmaybe by airing this movie on Cartoon Network it might inspire a few people to go pick it up and maybe some cartoon viewers who don't read comics will pick it up too.

Even if Cartoon Network doesn't air the special, people who would have not bought the DVD, still would not have bought the DVD. But they would tape it. Basic economics. I am someone who would like to see the Ultimate Avengers, and if I can good. However I don't have the money for the DVD, or to even rent it. Yes I am that broke, I am attending college, and money flys. So I will do without. Its like why "pirating is harming the music industry argument" is a load of crock. The company that made this decided to trade uncertain financial returns, for some security. What if the money sucks bigtime? So bad people are using the DVD's for coasters. At the end of the day, L/M will still have their money from UA1 and UA2 as a part of the deal they made with CN. On the other hand if the movie is awesome, so awesome tha people will buy two DVD's incase one breaks, then L/M would loose money, as if they went by DVD's sales alone without CN's airing, they would make more money. Undoubtably, what is more likely to happen is that most of those would have bought DVD's will anyway. Some of those who would have bought it or at the very least rented it, L/M will loose out on them. But as a trade off they get to cash in partially on those (majority) who wouldn't have bought the DVD anyway. As a sidenote, consider the showing a big commercial. Most people don't have our fanatiscism, and are goiing to watch half the show, miss the ending, stuff like that, and since they lack the technological expertise to use TV Tuner, DVD-Recorders, and yes even VCR's, they will buy the DVD. Assuming they take the legal route ofcourse. But then that goes back to the basic argument, if they would download the movie, they wouldn't buy it anyway.

Maybe this will encourage some people to pick up the DTV. I assume they'll air it fullscreen and littered with commercials so this could encourage the people who like the movie to pick up their own copy. It's a good DVD and the price is really good too. Although I have noticed that they keep mentioning "all four Lionsgate DTVs" and not eight like they originally mentioned.

Yeah, they did back-track there. Can't really blame them though. Maybe their contract with Lionsgate is for eight movies, but they are only going into production with four before they see how successful they are. If the UA2 sells as well as UA1, I expect we'll be seeing the other four announced soon after.
(UA was in the top ten selling DVDs for the second week.)
