Episode 11
The series finale is all but upon us as only two episode of Sigma 6 remain after this week. I know some fans will surely be rejoicing. It's time to let the mockery begin from all our favorite friends.
Set controls to outer space, now flying with energy crystals ready to implode. Joe's in space, Sigma 6 in Space. What? You mean this is the wrong show for that song? Oh well.
Next week- Series finale- "Zeus, Part 1"
Wow. It's almost over and never ever coming back.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Real American Zeroes. Leave protecting of Earth to real ninjas and secret organizations with really really big robots.

It's over?! Well, I'll miss this show. Sure the plots and dialogue sucked. But it had great action scenes. I also grew to like the redesigns for most of the Joes, Cobras and the vehicles. As for a new Joe toon taking it's place, I doubt it. If the Sigma 6 figures are a flop, I doubt if Hasbro is going to sink any money into future reincarnations of G.I. Joe.
According to www.joebattlines.com forum members, there's actually good reason to believe that Sigma Six is getting another season.
Can someone get proof of its cancellation? Perhaps from the Comic Con?

I saw the first episode of Sigma Six, and it was alright. It was certianly better than the 80's GI Joe.

Man...I saw today's episode and Tunnel Rat's ignorance really gets to me; I can understand a silly bunch of moments in a show, but his incompetence really bothers me:sweat::sad:

The pick-up from Hasbro was 13 episodes. Until Hasbro announces that more epsodes have been made, or until it shows up on next years schedule, then it is indeed cancelled. Any show that gets below a 1.0 rating (which Sigma 6 does) isn't deserving of a second season any way.

http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=161218 disagrees.
and I can see a plausible scenario - the show ends up being profitable for Hasbro cause it's boosting merch sales, while it's profitable for 4kids because even though they don't recoup money off of the advertising in that time slot, Hasbro's cut them in for a piece of the pie from the merch money, making it more profitable than it would be otherwise.
Or it's just another regrettable business decision from good ol' Al Kahn.

Here I was thinking Sigma 6 was improving, and bam, they throw in the return of Scott and Spud. That automatically gives the win to the new picture.

Now I know that I am going to get flamed for this, but I actually enjoyed Sigma 6. Now there were some crappy episodes (that's right Casino Episode, I'm looking at YOU) but it had its moments. The only reason that bugs me about this series is the childish and forced dialogue, blame 4Kids and their strange programming practices. But, again the action was great, and I think it would have done better if it was produced by another company and aired on Cartoon Network.

No, don't blame it on 4K!ds, because 4K!ds does not create the scripts. As I've stated before, 4K!ds only has broadcasting rights and dubbing rights for this series, but Hasbro actually owns the series and creates the scripts.

This episode was all over the place. Everything just seemed so rushed. First thing I noticed was that the Joes had to stop Cobra from sending the shuttle to the meteor in outer space, next thing I notice is High Tech blowing his top at Tunnel Rat.
And to add insult to injury, they bring back Scott and Spud! WHY!!??

Hey I like Sigma Six too, and *dives into a pile of asbestos* I also like Scott and Spud. I think Spud got taken out too fast, he should have recovered and destroyed that Vector dealy robot.
It seemed like they were really laying on the "jokes" though, it just adds to the entertainment for me.
Now I need Zartans cloaking device so no Sigma Six haters can find me.

'HAD' being the keyword.
I think the show was ruined by silly dialogue (altough the whole 'birthday bomb' on Destro gag was just hilarious!), they really overdid it, especially when making Tunnel Rat so...incompetant!
The action was great though, no denying that, and I really liked the character design. Scarlet and Baroness...:nurse: hehehe.
Altough those voice change seem to imply some sort of production hiccup, like the episodes were received and dubbed in two shipping.
It's too bad though that they didn't tap more into the GI Joe mythos (which I am VERY unfamiliar with ), considering the number of characters they could have used... I guess they didn't to feel like a huge toy advertisement like those 80s series.
Sigma 6 would've been much better had Gonzo been allowed to do more than the animation (and was given a nice budget so we could get some nicer animation).
Granted, Scarlett like would've still been a teenager and Cobra Commander would still have that stupid helmet, but the story would be better.

the story would be better. Not quite sure I can agree with that. Gonzo is a good animator, but they're still a Japanese company with mostly Japanese writers. At the risk of sounding insensitive, there's a lot of American meme's in GI Joe that I'm not sure they'd understand, let alone put into a show. If they didnt it completely by themselves, it's probably still be a good show, but it wouldnt be GI Joe. Of course, they couldnt have done much worse then what we had anyways.

You're right, GI Joe can't be Joe unless the writers have an American sensibility. GI Joe is afterall 'A Real American Hero' :p.
Altough I do agree the story could have been better than that half-baked Power Stone idea...The 'gathering quest' theme is WAY too over done nowadays.

Oh and I forgot to talk about Scott and Spud... on one hand I'm glad they didn't over use them, on the other hand I feel like those two were totally ignored for the rest of the show like they hadn't existed until that point... they never even examined Spud... who looked downright pathetic in that ep while it's a super adaptable machine.

Nice idea... adds more girls beside Baroness, Scarlett and Jinx (though all three are lookers heheheh)

Gonzo could certainly fake it. After all, a lot of FMP (especially the music) is based off of a lot of 80's American action shows (the foremost being obviously The A-Team).
And really, it's not hard to make the Joes American. Granted, a collaboration would be best, but I'm confident in Gonzo's team.

It's a question of culture and deeply rooted mythos, not just of 'faking it'. I think you underestimate your own culture.

...Forget Marvel. Just grab Larry Hama. Or the Devil's Due team. And then put Cover Girl in it. :D
Again, unless you were born and raised in the US, you wont really understand the relevance some of the more symbolic icons you see are, or why certain things effect us the way it does. There are jokes you wont find funny, cultural refs that you wont get, and you wont understand why some of them get upset if you call them Yank because they happen to live south of a certain point on the map. You may learn, intellectually, why we react in certain ways to things, but you wont really 'get' it yourself. It's a different upbringing.
But very little of that stuff has actually been in ANY of the G.I. Joe cartoons/movies. Most of the "patriotic-ness" of the show came from the music and BBQs.
Undrave

It'S not a question of being patriotic or not. The fact is you're so much 'in' the culture yourself you don't notice them, that's all.
I live only a handful of kilometers north of the border and I wouldn't be able to write a decent Joe episode...well maybe itwould be cool and decent but it wouldn't be 'American'.

Not trying to get political, but I think Sigma 6 is trying to steer G.I. Joe from being just an American icon.
Not to mention that most of the episodes of the original series took place in Europe or South America...

That's because back then there was no sense of terrorists actually hiding in the USA, unlike now.
And as far as I can tell it's never said in Sigma 6 who they work for.

One of my main problems was how flimsy the Power Stones plot was; it had potential, but out of nowhere everyone is after them. I thought they were just something new the popped up. But Hi-Tech mentioned the one in space(this episode) comes around every 20 years, so they've been there are while. And I really just don't like how there are no origins for anything on this show ; you'd think the main plot of the show'd be better explained, or maybe a bit of back story(other than Snake Eyes)
I sound like a broken record, but the thing is I really was gunning for this show since the beginning, people said it would suck, and I said "Come on just give it time, look a new plot point is here after completing the first story arc, it could work!"

I feel the same way...to many untapped potential and stuff that come out of nowhere.
On the plus side Cobra uses robots as trooper so the Joes can shoot them and beat them up all they want XD I liked the Ninja B.A.T. sequence in the first ep with the ninja team.

Which...well, isnt really GI Joe anymore :/ But that's a seperate rant.
For a UN team, isnt it funny how they're all American born? :D

Additionnally ironic considering the US governement basically doesn't respect the UN as an entity, which really puts a huge dent in what the organisation is trying to accomplish ><

Well, the UN is mostly a corrupt farce now, but that's neither here nor there, and certainly not a topic we'll be going into on this thread.
