On Friday, April 7 at 10:30 p.m., anime series Case Closed, joins YTV’s anime programming block, Bionix.
Case Closed follows the escapades of Jimmy Kudo, the world renowned detective… who’s still in high school! Jimmy’s life is going as planned until mysterious men in black change it forever. They give him an experimental drug that transforms him into the pint-sized Detective Conan. Not giving up on his undercover duties, Jimmy joins his high school sweetheart and her detective father on cases that run the gamut from kidnapping to murder. Piecing together mysteries that even the police are incapable of, he can’t stop wondering whether he’ll ever track down the men who changed his life forever

Well, I hope Conan does better in Canada than he did in the USA on Adult Swim. I wonder, though, if Canadian TV will have the same problem with Conan as happened in the US -- too mature for the kiddies but not quite mature enough for the adults. With a 10:30 pm airtime, it seems like YTV is trying to screen out the young'uns.
I liked the show and was sorry to see it dropped from Adult Swim. (^_*)

Bionix is a block targeted at 12-17 viewers. Case Closed fits there perfectly or at least much better than it did on 18-34 targeted Adult Swim.

I've contended for years that the natural audience "Case Closed" is the same you have for "Perry Mason", "Columbo", "Murder She Wrote", "Diagnosis Murder", "Pierot", etc. Totally unsuited for SatAM-type audiences, but basically a prime-time family audience show.
I also believe "Case Closed" did satisfactorily on Adult Swim, or at least would have if the expectations in CN executive offices had shown a glimmer of intelligence. "Case Closed" was destined to be a runaway hit, but the natural audiences of the show and of CN in general didn't overlap much, and it was going to take some time for viewers to discover the show. If CN had taken that long-term view, they would have been delighted with CC's intitial ratings, instead of dumping CC (as they've done with too many shows) for not being an overnight success.
"Sailor Moon" was a runaway hit in Canada because the show was scheduled and promoted a lot better than it was in the U.S. I would not be surprised for history to repeat itself with "Case Closed".

Case Closed is a wonderful show with an excellent dub and I believe it will do quite well in Canada. Adult Swim's scheduling never gave the show a chance. If they could buy it again and CN would air it in prime time pre-Adult Swim I think it could do very well. And since TV-PG on CN is possible now that could happen but they've already given up on Case Closed.

Whoa! Case Closed on YTV! This sure came out of left field!
I only saw a few snippets of the first episode dubbed in my anime club a few weeks ago and I'm eager to see more.
Mystery shows actually do pretty well on YTV. There was this live action one "The adventures of Shirley Holmes" that ran on YTV a few years ago that was pretty successful. I'm sure Case Closed will fall suit. :)

Sailor Moon was successful because it was the flagship title that showed that there is more to anime than Samurai Pizza Cats (which was also a huge hit on YTV). Not to mention that YTV made a very smart decision to premiere the series in the ZONE, YTV's after school block. Compared to U.S. affiliates airing the series at 5:00 AM in the morning and you can see which country gave it the better treatment.

God, I miss this show.
I know CC/DC will do great on YTV but it's too bad that I will not be able to see it because I don't have that service on my cable provider. Does anyone know the cable providers in the U.S that have this channel?
I'm in the "I miss the show" crowd.

None. It's a Canadian station. Anyway, I hope it proves to be a success, and then YTV has the sense to move it to weeknights. No way it'll work once a week if they do go past Adult Swim.

Does anyone know the cable providers in the U.S that have this channel?I've heard rumours... RUMOURS, mind you, of YTV being carried on some American systems, mostly systems ridiculously close to the border which are owned by Rogers or some other Canadian company. But even if that were true, it probably doesn't help you.
But anyway... OH MY GOD! CASE CLOSED IS COMING TO CANADA!!!!

YTV pwns very hard. Now, FUNimation and YTV are back together since DBZ. First FMA now Case Closed. YTV needs Fruits Basket and Yu Yu Hakusho.
Is Gundam Seed Destiny coming as well? Take out Gundam Seed and bring GSD.

They have Destiny, but no airdate yet. Apparently the SEED reruns are doing well enough that they can put it off for as long as they want.
Hopefully Fruits Basket will happen, although YYH might be a little old at this point, especially given that YTV doesn't really have a weekday spot for it.

I wish CBC or TV Ontario could be persuaded that "Case Closed" would be an excellent companion to shows like "Marple Mystery", "Rosemary and Thyme", "A Touch of Frost", "Rebus", or "The Last Detective". At least some border U.S. viewers could see the show then (as I used to see a lot of anime years ago).

God, I miss this show. Ditto. Man as of late CN is really starting to loosing steam. Once Adult Swim gets even worse I'm going to give CN up for dead and move on.

I don't think AS will let you guys down anytime soon. They just need to get more anime running throughout the week. As for YTV... well, I'm just glad they're getting rid of those damn reruns on Friday nights. But their delaying Gundam SEED Destiny is just getting ridiculous.

Honestly, I think YTV is the best home for Conan. CBC would do a lot of good by running the Ghibli movies during "The Wonderful World of Disney", (since it's never going to happen on YTV) but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I got talked to YTV PR this morning and confirmed that they have 26 episodes of Case Closed. Hopefully that'll be enough to sell people on the show and convince YTV to get more episodes, and it should at least get maximum possible exposure by airing right after FMA.
Still, the fact that they went for 26 rather than 52 suggests that they may be a bit skeptical.

That's a pity. If properly promoted, there's no reason to be skeptical of the show.

Well, YTV rarely advertises any of their Friday night anime, and yet they still wind up being some of the highest rated shows on the station. Simply airing the show after Fullmetal Alchemist alone should be promotion enough.
