In tonight's new episode of Drawn Together, Captain Hero takes steroids, and Wooldoor steals some candy. But that's all we know about the episode, unless there's a third storyline I haven't been told about...

Again, pre-episode and post-episode thoughts go here, 'kay?

Judging from the previews, we're getting a spoof of The Incredible Hulk, and Foxxy gets some, ahem, new additions.

The Wooldoor plot sounds simple enough, but knowing this show, it's going to get very twisted, like the guy Wooldoor stealing candy from being the bike shop owner from 'Diff'rent Strokes'.

Why not just start calling the series The Captain Hero Show? Everyone but him and Foxxy has been forgotten.

Well actually Woodlor's been having a lot of plotlines too. And Clara's suppose to be getting some plots in Season 3 as well (along with Toot). But there are some characters being admittingly ignored. I believe Spanky's not getting airtime because since Captain Hero's become the really sick, peverted housemate, some of Spanky's character drive was stolen and he's become one of the more "common sense" characters, and harder to write for. Ling Ling dosen't speak english so they can't focus on him too much because aparently most viewers don't wan't to read while watching TV. Also I think it's hard putting him in plots since he also has superpowers and somewhat common sense so when trouble comes around they have to ignore Ling Ling or else he'll end up saving them all the time. As for Xandir, he does get to shine every so often, but not as much as other characters. He's probably the one characters used "in medium", not extremley overused or underused.

It's the 12 year old girl on a donkey!

They're allowed to use the name of Popeye? Is he free domain or something?

Wow . . . hate to be the one to pick up that phone call tomorrow morning from Hearst Entertainment.

Also:

Billy West and Alex Borstein doing their animated counterparts? NICE!

Did Peter and Lois look exactly like themselves?

And I always get a kick out of that Spongebob-esque music they play for Wooldor.

Well, they only showed them from the neck down, and you could easily tell who they were.

This show is certainly attracting some big guns.

I've really enjoy all the cartoon cameos these past three weeks.

hahaha another solid episode, almost all thngs i liked have been mentioned. btw how many times have we seen that clip of the ape man through out the show?
the beggining was great with the 'previous' DT cast, it reminds me how as much as i like the cast how a new cast would be so much fun, maybe if a 4th season happpens ;d

almost missed todays episode since my satellite guide said it was a re-run while the premier for Lemon Aids Walk was tomorrow.

Great episode, with the only minus being that they reused the Shawshank Redemption spoof from an earlier episode. I forgive them because they did do the scenes word-for-word.

Why? Alex Borenstein already appeared in the Toot fat camp episode as the mean fat girl, and Billy West appeared in the Season one ep where Xandir came out of the closest. So it's not really surprising that we saw them here. (And the FG thing isn't surprising either, but that's only because Merrick hinted about it a few weeks ago. Still was funny though).

In fact This is one of the better episodes, if not best episode of the season. It didn't falter in comedy like some of the other episodes did, and the only problem I had with it is the direction of the Woodlor side plot (he goes to mall security jail and then acts like he's been away for awhile and then goes back again... didn't really make all that much sense to me, but I laughed anyway, mainly at him taking candy while the worker was watching him, his shock at Clara and Spanky working together ("Awkward!"), and the chase scene with the cops). The Captain Hero plot was really funny too. The main reason that Captain Hero gets all these plots is probably because he can actually sustain being funny throughout the whole ep, whether sucking at sports or threathening others for money when taking steroids or killing them and training with Popeye and then killing everyone at the aids walk at the end. I'm hoping next week's episode is as good as this is.

It comes with the territory with a character like Wooldor. Do a lot of the things Spongebob Squarepants does make sense?

Toot: Hey, I'm on the toilet here! But you can use the sink.

Clara: Ew.

Clara in confessional narrative: So after I took a grunt in the sink...

I swear I laughed for like two minutes after that. You have to actually hear it instead of reading it to get the effect.:anime:

The execution of that line definitely made it hilarious, as it might have fallen flat on its own. I loved this ep more than any other recent one. When it opened with Billy West doing Stimpy, I knew it would be great, and then within a few minutes, Wooldoor turned into the old guy in Shawshank, and I knew it would be a series classic. Beyond those points, you had Lois and Peter, Popeye, Spider-Man, and other cameos throughout it making the whole episode fun to watch. Given the recent death of Eddie Guerrero, the steroid -abusing aspect of the episode was more memorable than it otherwise would have been. The writing staff made a serious subject funny with Foxxy Brown, and I loved Olive Oil becoming a ho. If it featured her flailing around wildly, that parody would have been perfect. I would have loved to have seen the mall guards be some kind of Dragnet parody, but they were funny as they were.

I don't know if I watched the same episode as everyone else. Based on everyone's reaction, I must have seen a different show.
The Family Guy cameo was cute, but not earth shattering. As for the rest of the episode, I laughed once, and now I can't even remember what it was I laughed at.

While I appreciate that this show is FINALLY starting to play with cartoon conventions and charecters some, it also seems to generate fewer honest laughs with every new episode. The jokes (and I'm being generous calling them that) are tired have all been done already by this show. It's not a good sign that by the middle of the second season the writers have run out of material.

Since it got no attention in the last topic which has died off:

Hero/Xandir's story was the better one. I don't like Spanky though so that could be why I feel that way. Excellent episode though. At least, better than many of the previous ones. Hero/Xandir's plot was really good.

I'm not too thrilled to hear were getting more Toot centric episodes next season. In my opinion, her and Spanky are the worst characters.

I'm new here so I'd just like to take this new opportunity of speaking with a creator of the show to give my opinions of the show itself.

I enjoy the show but I do feel it has gone downhill from season one. Mainly the thing I haven't liked in season two is that you guys have focused more on gross-out humor a lot of times, including the long farts from Spanky. That and there's been more cut-away scenes. One of my favorite shows is Family Guy which relies quite heavily on cut-away scenes. But that's kinda their schtick. I don't expect, and in some cases don't want, it from other shows. But that's not really a big problem.

My main thing with season two has been the gross-out humor I mentioned above. I don't know if maybe I'm a rare exception of the audience but I just don't find long farts that funny. I had this problem in season one as well but to a much lesser extent.

Season two has been sort of hit or miss with me.The One Wherein There Is A Big Twist Part 2 - Great follow-up to the cliffhanger. Toot's subplot was actually pretty good here. I'm not a particularly big fan of Wooldoor but he was on his game in this episode.

Foxxy Vs. The Board Of Education - Foxxy is good but not in as large doses as has been presented this season. Xandir's subplot with Spanky was pretty good. Ling Ling was used to better effect here than in other episodes because I had begun to wonder whether he was going to do anything really significant in the series.

Little Orphan Hero - Very good episode. I really liked the almost exact reproduction of Action Comics #1 with Hero and paroditic elements abound.

Captain Hero's Marriage Pact - Pretty good episode. I didn't much care for the Foxxy/Spanky subplot. Hero and Wooldoor's plot was really good.

Clum Babies - An off episode. Ling Ling's subplot wasn't as good as it could've been. There were some good parts but nothing too special. The whole episode picked up though at the end. I ****ing hate The Veggie Tales and this was one of the best parodies of them I've ever seen. The killing spree was hilarious.

Ghostesses In The Slot Machine - Nothing special really at all in this episode. Pretty boring actually, no real hilarious parts. I like the super hero league Hero was part of though. I am wondering how my favorite super hero, The Green Lantern, was overlooked yet a Green Arrow parody made it to the team though.

Super Nanny - Not so great, better than the previous one. Ling Ling's Americanization's results were great. Hero's plot with Super Nanny wasn't as good as I thought it would be though.

Captain Girl - A good return to form. Had some really good parts. Toot's subplot was kind of annoying and seemed like filler but Hero/Wooldoor's plot was brilliant.

A Tale Of Two Cows - Xandir's lines were the best. Toot was annoying as per the usual and the live action stuff wasn't too great.

And finally, you have my review for the latest one above.

Just to let you know Myst: most posts in a topic (espically when the topic is coming to a close) aren't really noticed/quoted from, espically if it's just a basic review of the show. So it really dosen't help to like double post your throughts from one talkback to this one. Not wanting to sound like a jerk or anything, just saying. (Espically since you didn't post thoughts for the episode in question).

The Judge Fudge opening was the best use of filler time ever. The actual short sucked, though.

Interesting little thing I just remembered about that: you know in the third act (I believe right in the beginning of it) there's actually one of those ads on screen for the Judge Fudge show, like they would have for say the Daly Show or Colbert Report. I thought this was a pretty interesting joke. It would of been funniner if someone actually saw the ad though (like in that Simpsons episode "mr. Spitz Goes to Washington". "Mmmmmmm, Promo").

To be honest, I hadn't seen this episode yet. I have now though so here we go...

Best episode of the season by far. Sheer hilarity the whole way through. Not as many gross out jokes, nothing went on too long, and there weren't as many cut-aways or stupid jokes. The whole thing was just one of the best episodes of the series. I honestly can say that I loved this episode. It's the first time I've laughed my ass off at this show in a while. Keep it up.

I do have a question though, and it's kind of about the use of Popeye.

Um . . . were the writers confused about the public-domainess of the character? I mean, a bulk of the shorts are definitely in the public domain, but the character, in all of its purposes, is still owned by King Features vis a vis Hearst Entertainment. Heck, Billy West, who probably did the voice of Popeye, performed as the character back in '04. Did they get permission to use the character of Popeye, or were they just plain confused about the public-domainess of the character?

Aren't Comedy Central and King Features both owned by Paramount? No. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom. King Features is owned by Hearst Entertainment. Paramount is a twisted situation as the movie division is owned by Viacom while the television unit, now CBS Paramount Television, is owned by CBS Corporation, which used to be old Viacom which was, ironically, a spinoff of the old CBS Corporation. Small world.

*nods in agreement* Very funny.

I got a HUGE kick out the of Shashank Redemption parody. In the actual movie, the old man's story is so tragic. Only Drawn Together could make a tragic story fun!

Woldorf: Boss? Can I go to the potty?

I love this show.

That was the joke. A dramatic 1970s style opening followed by a short where nothing happens. The whole thing, including the opening was the short.

Alex Borstein recorded the cameo of Lois the day she came in to record the fat camp episode. Alex was also the voice of the Aids Walk coordinator. We recorded everything in about an hour.

We brought Billy West in to be Popeye. While he was there he recorded the Stimpy voice as a goof, it wasn't in the script but we used it anyway. He did a couple of other pick up voices while he was in the studio, including the Mall Security Guard. He was a lot of fun and was particularly tickled by the thought of Popeye turning Olive out and threatening to hit her. That was the first and only time Billy West did voices for us. He never appeared in season one.

We've already done the joke of someone seeing what's printed on the screen. Wooldoor reads a news story about the Mad Libber when he's Captain Hero's sidekick. And we're actually don't a similar thing in a season three episode. As for this episode, we thought the parody was funnier if it just slipped by unnoticed, causing people to think that there might actually be a Judge Fudge show on after Drawn Together.

We weren't confused. According to our lawyer, what we did falls under the fair use laws.
