This is the talkback thread for "Initial D": Drifts into Mediocrity (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=9057).

Live action anime rarely works, and this is no exception.

wasn't there a Japanese dvd (with a japanese dub) coming sometime in february?

btw, Jay Chou was speaking mandarin when they were filming this. he dubbed his lines in cantonese later on. and if "Initial D" wasn't enough for you, wait till you hear that awful song in Jet Li's new movie "Fearless" (now coming August 4th in the US & Canada) and there are rumours that director Zhang Yimou will cast Jay in a new movie with Gong Li and Chow Yun-Fat.

I found that at my local Block Buster and decided to give it a shot. It was nothing special though. I didn't like the tweaks to the story and the ommision of some key characters entirely. The casting of Bunta, Itsuki and the gas station manager were really good though.

The music was okay. Closer to the "tricked out" dub than the original OST from the anime but it worked better than "tricked out" ever did.

The racing wasn't all that exciting though and that's what really counts besides the drama which was decently executed but rushed.

I watched it dubbed in English which was pretty interesting. I was almost hoping that the VA's from the anime would reprise their roles (well at least some of them) but that was not the case at all.

if u had the right speakers for it, i suggest you watch it in DTS-es.
the film was very bass-heavy. and it really enhances the film.
